went into my kitchen and used my finest italian extra virgin olive oil.
worked like a charm.

if i go to a hardware shop how should i order something similar to the molykote 44 or the shin etsu 30, i don’t think i could by such an expensive solution for my jlf squeak.
I use plumbers grease I got from Home Depot for a couple bucks. Sticky on your hands though…
and the joystick performs well or is it too hard?
Nope all good. Been using plumbers grease for well over a year with no issues in the following:
-2 x JLF
-1 x LS-32
-2 x LS-56
The sticky-ness from the grease doesn’t effect the pivot in the base, just not great for your skin.
This might be an issue if the pivot were being lifted from the base, but this does not happen when playing…When the stick is assembled the pivot will never lift up out of the base.
I wouldn’t mind trying out some of that there molycoat 44, but I’m too cheap and the plumbers grease works great so far.
i don’t undesrtand what might be an issue if the pivot is lifted?
To necro the thread…
Should a standard JLF have some grease if you buy it new? e.g. should there be any grease on the pivot whatsoever?
Perhaps that’s why my JLF in my SE is a bit stiffer than my TE
The pivot will not lift from the base during play. I was only saying if it were the case, which it won’t ever be-only if it is being dismantled.
WD-40
Heard it was made from fish oil
yes it should have, if not then it’s a mistake of the assembly line.
concerning the wd-40, are you sure it’s safe? i wonder that because i read it is petroleum based.
related to that: are silicone-based spray lubricants recommended for the jlf or a more solid grease is needed?
WD-40 shouldn’t be used for lubrication
o-ring grease is ok?
just buy this, this is as best as it gets imo.

50 dollars!!! i prefer to buy 2 new jlf for that kind of money.
Yeah the cost of grease tends to be quite a bit more expensive than just a new stick
The going rate is about $30 for a tube of lubricant isnt it?
Look up Masterfader. He has a tube of that official Sanwa Shin Etsu 40 that he has been kind enough to part out for SRK members.
He says he not selling anymore though.
It is too much of his time.
So yeah, my JLF had no grease whatsoever. No wonder my SE doesn’t feel like my TE.
:amazed:
Is there anything wrong that can happen other than having crappy movement, e.g. would any damage occur to the plastic base if I’m still using it until I get it greased up?
I’m going to give chapstick a try
I was having problems with my stick feeling to stiff, i used hair clipper oil and it seems to be doing the job very well!
that’s for a pack of 12, just buy 1… look online for the same product, mine cost 4 bux. and I got it an an actual ace hardware.
