Joystick Grease / Lubrication

Hi,

What type of lubrication do you guys all use for your sticks?

I see LizardLick sells Molycoat 44 Grease, which is the same spec as the Shin-Etsu G-40M as is in the Sanwa catalogue…

BUT it’s $30 and if you google Shin-Etsu G-40M that’s around $99

Obviously not going for either of those ! But what do you use as an alternative? and why does it need to be so special? not exactly like it’s ever going to get real hot or anything…

I need some for my newly built FS3 Sanwa modded… The stick just doesn’t seem as smooth as my Sanwa in my HRAP3… I think the grease will help it out a lot.

I use Shin-Etsu. 30+shipping from akihabarashop.

Just don’t use any petroleum-based lubricants - they deteriorate the plastic parts.

I found some VC-6 Silicone Grease in my garage… I wonder if that’ll do the trick? It’s not white, but clear, and does feel a little sticky when rubbing it against my fingers… But once i wipe it off it does make my fingers rub smoother against each other… Does the Shin-Etsu do the same?

Hmm, not sure . I’ll check when I get home.

so it’s a no go for Vaseline since it’s petroleum-based ??

I which I will be able to know the composition of this “Shin-Etsu” grease …

wait … i google this grease… it’s made by Honda for “… lubricating rubber door seals. Great for using on the Honda Odyssey sliding doors!”…

Well no composition, sadly…

but I think that the “Silicone Grease” must be a good alternative…

what need is there for lubricating a stick? ive had the same stick for half a year and the grease is still there and it works perfectly.

will ky jelly work?

i tried it on my hori stick =X

it worked alright lol

You’re right but with time, the grease (well it depends of the quality of the grease…) will become “sticky”… especially if you have some dust inside.

As for doors , windows it’s good to wipe “old” grease and put some new one.

No – do not use a water-based lubricant because if it sits on any metal components it can oxidize them. Non-petroleum silicone-based is the way to go.

Is lip balm/chap stick good for lubrication? IE: Chap stick or Blistex?

Molykote is $20 if you google it. That tube will probably last you a lifetime.

This thread title. Oh man.

http://www.super-lube.com/

look for the clear grease

all synthetic, wont attack plastic parts, buy it online or at Ace hardware

my Happ comp is like silk with this stuff, oooh! yeah!

Yeah I read the title and thought it was about people who would use… er… tournament illegal holds… for their joystick. Then with My mind firmly planted in the gutter I was wondering if they’d still pull off a shoryuken that way…

Anyway I never even knew there was any type of grease in my stick… Good to note for later when I have to do repairs… no homo…

I read in an old Thread here in Tech Talk of someone using lip balm.
Person cut off a slice, and just moved it around in the Joystick.

Want a clean joystick? Don’t have random one night stands.

Just. . . what part of the stick should we apply the lubricant to?

/so wrong

The lubricant should be applied underneath where the dustcover cover is. As you lift up the dustcover, there is a white piece attached to the shaft. That’s where it should be applied.

Chap Stick and Blistex use petroleum-based ingredients (petrolatum, paraffin and mineral oils).
