I wouldn’t say the animation didn’t age well at all. The fluidity of the characters are done much better and on a higher budget than what David Production put out for the anime. If they have these OVAs remastered and available on Blu-ray you can definitely see the superiority. As par condensing the story I completely agree but what do you expect it’s an OVA they tend to be shorter.
As for Evangelion I assume you are talking about NGE vs. the Rebuild series right? The story deviates quite a bit and the production value is scaled way higher for those… they are movies compared to tv anime I don’t see where your arguments comes in really.
ah, my bad for not checking first. i wasn’t aware that death & rebirth/end of eva had theatrical releases in japan since i initially encountered them in laserdisc/dvd format ages ago so it was my thinking that they were OVA but yeah, that’s what i meant.
then i guess the eva bit that i mentioned doesn’t count. i still beg to differ on the quality of the animation for the OVA since if they really consider the product to be top notch, they SHOULD have re-released the set on bluray a long ass time ago. as it “stands”, let’s agree to disagree on that and move on.
Og ovas are great. They took out some stuff bad added a lot thanks to Satoshi Kon. Newer ones are poo. If Satoshi Kon was alive I would have liked to have seen him work on the TV series. He would have did well to adapt some of the material better for an animated format.
Part 1 is a vampire movie. It is basically a slow vampire old timey british romance novel type of thing
Part 2 is indiana jones the manga
Stardust Crusaders was entertaining, but it was your basic shounen which is why a lot of people jitp over it. Stands changed up the game
The setting of part 4 in a seaside town and making it a murder mystery? Fantastic, it is my favorite out of the animated features because the characters and writing made up for the lack of epic fights.
Part 5 is a gangster movie, it is a little bland. But the designs are fab.
Part 6 is a love triangle with prison elements, with things that destroy reality. Jolyne is cool. She isn’t the damsel or the tough girl. She isn’t a tom boy. She’s basically that one cool chick who got with that douchebag.
Part 7 is a take on cannonball run and brings back hamon. And wild west elements. Well more like wild wild west. Jim west. Desperado…it is world breaking sure
Have not read much of jojolion and alt josuke. But this series is dope
I might have spoiled myself watching eyes of heaven cut scenes. But the va’s are too good
Here’s to hoping Araki actually has something good planned for Jojolion. It’s been nearly 6 years and I’m still not sure where the hell he’s going with this one.
Can’t lie the whole sailor thing turned me off but like with everything after seeing it for years it just kinda grows on you. It’s definitely not the look that bothers me about part 8. What bothers me is 60+ chapters into this and nothing is really happening lol. I wonder if Araki has finally lost it and just doesn’t know what the hell he’s doing.
The OVA for what it was, was fun and entertaining with some good fights, and it hit enough key points of the arc that make it worth watching. I also liked the way they reintroduced Avdol back in during the fight with the old lady. That was done better. The Jotaro/Dio fight was also good and in some ways better.
Even though it’s missing a TON of content, at the same time that means it’s also missing a lot of the less memorable events & stand users that “filled” out Stardust. Allowing it to stick to the most memorable highlights of part 3 without the fluff.
The new version is still a lot better overall but, as a sort of brief ‘cliffnotes’ introduction to the story, the OVA is still cool.
If you have a friend you’re trying to introduce to the series? Then the OVA would be a good exposure actually. if they’re not hooked after that or interested in the characters? Then it’s safe to say they wouldn’t like the full part 3 either.
The best part of the 90s OVA was Dio/Jotaro fight actually getting into the streets and Dio killing people.
Always thought Cairo being virtually empty in the Manga/Anime was off to me.
JoJolion is hit or miss to me so far. When it’s good, it’s really good, but it has a lot of spots were it feels like whatever is going doesn’t matter at all lol.
I was pretty nervous about this film but i just found out today takeshii mike is directing it, so i’m much more optimistic. Still wonder how they are gonna handle stands tho
