John Nelson, Tournament Legacy, and Team HORI

At this point, JN’s best option is refund. I mean, if he wants to clear his name from what the “internet” is calling him, he can at least give you guys your money back.

He’s not going to do it, and two names are stopping him from doing so, Wong and Champ. They are in the perfect position to blow his operation straight to hell if he can’t keep their mouths shut with green tape for all of the advertising that they did for the tournament. I wouldn’t be surprised if the KOF prize pot wasn’t spent on said advertising.

NO “prejudice” as you say, just want truth or what you believe is the truth/where are there plenty of errors in the posts you see, can you please help us out and tell us where we are wrong especially in Kaotic Dragon’s 1st post or anywhere else you think is relevant. But some of us posting in this thread are not posting biased opinions, they are actually 1st hand experiences of what happened. Saw Team Hori in the Trailer for Shadowloo Showdown 2011, I did not see them at all in Australia like they were suppose to be.

Where is Wolfkrone wrong in his post on the 1st page?
I personally saw Wolfkrone, Toxy, DiosX, Omniscythe, GDLKScrub, and maybe 1 or 2 others share 1 hotel room. The 1st 4 guys won an online qualifier, they should of got a hotel room each, is that not how it works normally works when one wins a qualifier to a major?

Forgive me I made a mistake. I should of said before EVO2011 with your supposed non sponsorship with TL, If you were never sponsored by them why would your good friend MegaManDS put [Tournament Legacy] Fanatiq in front of your handle in that video thread showcasing your skills.

Why would you allow the streamer on WNF put TL | Fanatiq on this WNF stream?

Did they just randomly put TL’s brand in front of your handle? Was it just a mistake?
Were you just oblivious to all this?

Your good friend MegamanDS that you frequently have on your stream made this thread, says MegamanDS & Fanatiq at the bottom. He mistakenly put TL in front of your name as a title?

Is this an error and prejudice too? I mean help us out here.

lmao
if he’s up against the “internet” especially the FGC’s corner of the internet his best option is to keep the money because giving it back will not fix anything

I can’t believe you would defend this man fanatiq. I’ve witnessed what this man has done to my friends. If you continue this, it will break my heart and I’ll lose so much respect for you :frowning:

Wake up fanatiq, wake up and open your eyes… Just post what is wrong with them and thats it.

oh jano, I guess I missed that because I never saw UFGT reach 10k. Thanks for the correction!

And here’s one of my favorite Revelations moments: http://t.co/2sExu4LK

Eliver lookin real uncomfortable, check out that big awkward pause lol

If anyone needs any clarification or truth (from my perspective). Feel free to hit me up via PM.

Eliver knows what kind of person JN is and the truth about JN/TL. He pledged a part of his winnings to the past Team Hori if he got top 3 on twitter.

This is why I thought Fanatiq was disingenuous and a shill, he basically indirectly said this thread is BS. I asked him to explain where he knows/believes this thread is wrong, especially the very 1st post in this thread.

Why hide the “truth” from someone? I don’t think anyone can tackle you for simply speaking facts (even if they are from your perspective).
So please be so kind and let all know, not just the ones who PM you (and since everybody can do so, it’s almost the same as posting just here - but it saves you a lot of bothersome hassle and helps to clarify the case).

did the winners get paid? That’s really all i care bout.

Are you fucking with me right now dude? You know me. Why, why would I lie about this?
We’ve went over this-- my record compared to his, YOU agreed with me. Did you not LEAVE his offer of a sponsorship over the same thing? I’m incorrect? Oh, did I leave out how on the phone call where he told me he’d hired the two Coke filmmakers that I could “show them around the venue and what to film”. How motherfucking insulting is that? “Hey, I totally jerked you around for 6 months telling you this job was guarantee, but now I’m gonna on the last minute tell you to piss off and hire these guys. Oh! But you can show them around the venue, and tell them what to film if you like?”

You know Dillon as well Fanatiq. He had to get the time off work when he needed the money. And on the last minute John cuts us off after all his promises, and Dillon was left in the cold trying to put shit back together on his end-- for what? Agreeing to help out for camera work? I’M STILL WAITING FOR THAT 60 DOLLARS AS WELL JOHN. Seriously man, tell me in what ways I’m incorrect. If you don’t want to settle this in the thread, at least ring me up and we’ll deal with this over the phone.

Yeah serious, other then the kof guys (which is fucked up, as is.) Who else lost out on this?

There’s not much to say about this guy that hasn’t already been said before.
He is definitely a superb speaker, skillful orator. He takes advantage of the naive, the inexperience, and the good nature of people.
Because his vision so astounding, people can’t help but get lost in the mirage of things. This can explain why so many people are fooled by him ATLEAST once.

I am an example.

At the time, I was so hungry in the scene. I wanted to get better, become recognized and ultimately win majors. My only problem was that I did not have the necessary funds to travel outside of the state. So when I was approached for an opportunity to join Team Hori, you could probably understand why I felt compelled to be part of the team. However the moment we agreed to be part of the team, we basically signed over our souls. It was a team within a team, if I could somehow explain it better.

Hori, the arcade product company, gave tournament legacy the rights to use their brand with the purpose of helping them get Hori products into the scene. I don’t know the whole agreement between TL and Hori, but from my perspective it felt like it was a long the lines of a product sponsorship. Well you should have seen the look on my face during our first meeting. I was expecting to meet a Hori representative (Japanese businessman), this was not the case. Out of lack of respect for the guy I won’t be mentioning his name throughout this story. Here comes in this middle age man, with a smile on his first approaching us at the Proudbird during one of the WNF sessions. He introduces himself and begins to outline his proposition. I think about this night many times, how I wished I had a Delorean so I could travel back to this exact time, and bitch-slap myself, tatsu, and warahk for agreeing to this. After this first meeting we were so optimistic (if you wanna see how optimistic you can watch Zaid’s one documentary). I told him, my main goal in all of this was to just have the means to travel. I didn’t want money, or salary or any of that crap. Just an opportunity to test my skills and maybe improve myself. As I can recall, Tatsu and Warahk felt the same way. So many verbal promises were made that night, one of which really caught our eye was Shadaloo Showdown. He even asked us if we had passports and told us to make them as soon as possible cause we were definite going.

He tells us a story of Justin Wong, of how sponsored players like Justin Wong really hate the fact that they have to sign long, restrictive contracts. So he puts together this one page contract (which Warahk and I were convinced he typed up 20 minutes before the meeting) and presents it to us. The contract, if you can even call it a contract, stated that we would be playing under the Hori banner managed by Tournament Legacy. We would be promoting their brand by various forms of media, and in return we would be sponsored to tournaments that we requested. The first tournament that we would enter as a team would be Revelations 2011. After this became official, he started hounding us to make Twitter accounts and promoting his tournament. At the time, I knew little to nothing about Twitter or how it even functioned. Weeks went by and we continued promoting WNF and Revelations. We tried to stay active with our twitter pages but it was frustrating. We were not given any sort of template to work with. Ultimately there was no sort of guidance. He just basically said “Go out and promote my tournament”.

The weeks became months and with each meeting that we attended, we started noticing the real person that this guy was.
He wasn’t the community man he claimed he was, I did not interact with anybody during WNF. His staff also brought out this same vibe. They were just here for business and they weren’t really into fighting games.
I started hating what WNF had become. Originally WNF was just a bunch of dudes playing at a garage with the purpose of having fun and trying to get better. There weren’t any door fees and vendors selling us overpriced food. We didn’t care where we played, we just wanted to play every wednesday night. We could have played in the back alley of a liquor store and we probably would have had fun.

Here we were, at Hollywood Park Casino, the Proud Bird, and 4 Seasons Hotel. Standing at the door, body guards staring at us, staring at our wrists to see if we paid the venue fee. One time I was even harassed by one of his goons because he couldn’t visibly see my bracelet. I am not trying to sound conceded, but I want to know why any of his staff would harass me of all people. I was supposed to be sponsored by him after all, did he not even have the nerve to tell his staff that? Why did I even have to pay a venue fee or a pot fee, shouldn’t this be covered by him? Do members of team EG have to pay for their own fees if their company decides to run an EG invitational? What was the point of my teammates and me traveling out 50 miles every week with my own money to participate in a weekly ran by our supposedly manager, if we could not even get any sort of reimbursement?

If there was a recurring theme to every single team meeting we had, it was that we “WERE NOT TWEETING ENOUGH!” To be honest what were we suppose to tweet about that we hadn’t already tweet about before? Did something new come up? Did MOAR money get added to the pot? Why would this even matter to a community of fighting gamers? Somehow he got to us, he made us feel guilty. He made tatsu disappointed in himself and he made Warahk extremely pissed off.

For someone with such a large vision and promising ideas, he failed miserably at execution. He didn’t even register us for his own tournament, I had to ask Alex Valle at the last second to make sure we were all in the brackets. He did not make plans for us to go to Norcal Regionals 2 weeks after Revelations. I had attended 3 Norcal Regionals previously and it is arguably one of the smoothest tournaments in the Evo Circuit. John Choi even pays the winners in cash, immediately after the game is done 8-).

If you haven’t watched The Answers video, I suggest you do. In it, Oscar mentions about having hope that in someway and somehow this man might pull it through for them. Even after hearing bad things from his peers, he wants to believe that there’s a chance he will keep his word. Well this is how Tatsu, Warahk and I felt after Revelations. All we wanted to do was to go to Australia, if this was going to happen. We would put everything that happen past us, we would not hold anything against this man because at the end of the day we would know that he had some sort of decent bone in his body.

As you all may know we didn’t attend SS2k11. The worst part of it all was that he didn’t have the balls to even let our Australian friends know about our situation. They had no idea that we were not coming. We had already told our friends and family that we were going to Australia, we planned in months ahead, we took vacation time from work. So a week after Revelations, he calls us and lets us know that SS2k11 isn’t going to happen. He’s sorry he can’t take us like he promised. He begins to tell us his sad story of the Proud Bird extorting money from him, threatening to close the doors on him. He tells us that with what money he had left, he had to use it to pay off the winners of the tournament. Somehow in all of this managed to pissed off Sako and his Wife Akiki. If I’m wrong I’m sorry to Sako because I have so much respect for him and his wife. Through Hori management, we found out that Sako was promised a trip to Evo2011 by this man but in the end he screwed Sako over. Hori did their best to try to change Sako’s mind but at the end of the day, Sako did not attend Evolution 2011.

Sako did not schedule the flight or book the hotel room because he believed that it was all taken care of. Well it wasn’t. Nothing was done. Nothing was going to get done. I don’t even think there was anything planned.

I felt that I had to let people know what was going on. I just didn’t want this kind of thing to happen to others. No one deserves to go through this much BS. So Tatsu and I contacted the guys from SSK2011. We told them about what had happen and we apologized for everything that was promised and apologized on behalf of America LOL. In our skype meeting, we found out so many things that happened during the course of Revelations leading up to SS2k11. As you may recall Toxy and several international big names were advertised promoting Revelations 2011. It was suppose to be thee tournament of the year. Record breaking payout, heavy hitters from across the globe and countless sponsors attending. In the mix of all this was Toxy from Australia. This guy convinced Toxy that he was going to get a free trip to America to compete at Revelations for a spot to be on Team Hori. Sounds absurd right? Well he somehow convinces Hitbox to pay for Toxy’s trip and uses Toxy’s friends Kode and Ali to promote his tournament.

If there’s one thing that I want to thank JN for, its definitely for all the friends he helped me make throughout this whole experience. If it wasn’t for his BS, we would not have talked to the Australians, I would have not gotten closer to the Level Up Staff, Madcatz staff, Hori Staff, and the guys from Los Angeles.

After the whole SS2k11 debacle happened. We unanimously agreed to part ways with the guy, we unofficially boycotted WNF because they worked with him. If you guys can remember, there was a period when everybody literally disappeared from the scene. This is the sole reason why. We left without taking a single dime from the guy, we did not get reimbursed for anything that was promised. We got a couple sticks here and there, but that was directly from Hori. I would like to believe that he had no part in their dealings. He had no intentions of sending us anywhere, to be honest I just think he used us as a way to promote his brand and his tournament. Once his tournament was done, the communication disappeared and he was basically invisible.

We paid for our own trip to Evo that year. We were depressed as hell but Evo was a tradition so we tried to suck it up and play through the weekend. If I had to describe my feelings in 5 words during this whole ordeal it would be:
Excitement, Frustration, Embarassment, Depression, and Indifference.

I write this as an apology. I apologize that I did not come out with this information sooner. To be honest, I really thought he was going to disappear after that tournament, because any idiot would have have felt the tension. I know that he knows that we don’t like him yet I do not fathom why he decided to move forward with Revelations 2012.

He thinks we are idiots, he thinks just because he has big sponsorships or big promises of payouts that we will flock to him and forgive him. I don’t believe a majority of this community can be bought out, I refuse to believe it.

However I urge you all to hold back on your words, because we don’t want this situation to get out of hand. We must not devolve into a Mob mentality. And please no death threats should be made against him or his family. We, as a community, can resolve this situation with class and dignity. Let’s just put this guy in the rear view mirror and move forward. I see no purpose in harming him or trying to slander his name. As much of a scumbag as he may be, we must never stoop down to his level.

I think that they had to sign W-9’s (Lifelock is your friend, BTW), and then they were told they had to wait a month for their checks. I’m just going off second hand information.

Probably because it’s simply his perspective and not concrete evidence (even though I would trust him 100%), and you know there will be SRK posters who will have the audacity to call him out and make sure it turns into a petty internet argument. Even if he wants to keep some sensitive information private I’m sure the right people will know in order to take the appropriate action.

Just guessing, but Mark might be in a more delicate position as a community manager for Madcatz. Even with a disclaimer that it’s just his personal views or w/e, very different to make a public statement about a TO/company than to say something privately. Even with his stuff on Twitter yesterday it’s not like he directly made any statements about TL/JN, just responded to @TL_EVENTS’s (now deleted and disavowed) tweets and made some vague statements like his question to FishStix about banning organizations. As others have said though, it speaks volumes that Madcatz chose not to sponsor them.

Andy, thanks for coming out and sharing your experience. That was very powerful. Everyone, please read what AndyOCR has written and advised. Lets move forward and not throw any players under the bus when we do not completely know or understand their situation. Afterall, this entire thread is for the benefit of the community and an important part of this community is the players; Not only Andy, but that also includes Justin, Filipino Champ, Fanatiq, and all who attended Revelations. Remember that.

I just read that and that is pretty messed up.

Excellently written Andy!
