I remember some of the active gamers stuff happening in 2009. My post about ReveLAtions pot bonuses is definitely biased because I know of JN’s history, but I would be wary of absolutely anyone advertising $50k in pot bonuses across all those games.
I also think it’s funny that you skipped over the SSN conspiracy theories to comment on my post.
When you get a big $ prize the party awarding the prize needs your SSN to show the IRS who they gave money to. The prizes awarded are reflected as business expenses on their tax return. By this process, the IRS knows you won a prize (the 1099 you receive is the record) and it should be reported as earnings on your personal tax return. If a TO gives out prize money without following this process then technically they might be doing something wrong.
This is not to say that people who don’t do this are going to jail but if the IRS realizes that a high amount of earnings is not being taxed, they could potentially be compelled to investigate and then try to collect any taxes owed plus penalty and interest. For a local tourney they won’t bother but once people are making five figures as a single prize, their radar perks up.
I would be more trusting of a tournament that didn’t offer pot bonuses for every tournament under the sun unlike Revelations…
To the point, the whole reason why I said what I said is because of my own encounters with the franchise. Pokemon video game tournaments here in Texas are usually treated as side event fare in Smash tournaments, if at all. I don’t know about other regions, but there is no way that any sane TO would offer a $1k bonus in Pokemon while neglecting Tekken, or trying to get one over on the KOF people.
That is why Nelson needs to stop thinking about money for once and get an actual pulse of the community before he goes and flashes some green around…

I would if I felt I owed it to anyone. I’m not, nor have I ever been sponosred by Tournament Legacy and never spoke with them after EVO 2011. I saw plenty of errors in Wolfkrone’s, RedRapper’s and the OP’s posts. John Nelson makes plenty of errors too… Considering any random can post in this thread and post their biased opinions and we take these as facts despite SEVERAL “hey this is just what I read on the internet” disclaimers, means it isn’t worth my time taking this thread seriously. If you guys actually cared about the truth there wouldn’t be so much prejudice.

You pretty much nailed it sir, thank you for taking the time to write this, at the end of the day what made us take the final decision to leave was that he couldn’t say “Guarantee” that the pot for KOF was still $3K, we understood if he couldn’t have the money there or give up a check up front, but when he couldn’t just say “Yes the money is there” is when we decided to just walk away.
Earlier today I sent an email to TL/JN regarding the refund for the KOF players, I’ll keep you guys updated on the situation. I hope the FGC learns from this and comes out in public to warn other players about situations like this one, as it will help all of us in the future.
Care to share some of the errors that you saw in those mentioned posts? I’m interested to see any dispute regarding what they stated about Tournament Legacy and John Nelson. So far the opinions regarding John Nelson’s association with the community has been unanimously negative.

You could add to saying on stream that you thought Combofiend was a Viet-Nigger and calling stream monsters niggers during the SBO quals in Austin when Furbaduck left the station for a couple of minutes.
ReveLAtions might’ve been ass, John Nelson may be shady, but god damn if some of the commentary didn’t go out of its way to be beyond shitty. It wasn’t just you. A fuckload of the commentary just made us look hella bad during the weekend.
