John Nelson, Tournament Legacy, and Team HORI

What consequences? They’re promoting an event, and they don’t guarantee you anything. You hurting the spokesman is akin to being mad at an actor in a commercial because your Rice Krispies didn’t snap, crackle, and/or pop. And comparing Limbaugh to these two is dishonest since they don’t even do the same thing; one is paid to have an opinion on air while the other two are probably paid to promote something.

that was fanatiq’s april fool’s joke

For those wondering about a ban or no ban, I cannot stress this enough … there are MORE PEOPLE like John waiting in the wings. And those people have executive jobs or have jobs that make them feel important. That meeting I mentioned in my G+ post wasn’t scary, per se, but it was damn eye-opening.

If those executives see John running a tournament and doing things his way and getting away with all that he can get away with, what’s not to stop those guys I saw from coming in to this community and pulling a John or a Scott Valencia? “If John can offer a lot of money and pocket a lot of money in return, so can I!” It’s a scary thought.

Also, keep this in mind. The shitstorm that brewed here and on Twitter, and more than 3,000 people still watched the stream on twitch. John and TL would probably tell all of us “Yeah but we still got huge numbers despite you all crapping on us.”

He will try by any means to get you to like him, and then he’ll pull the trigger and walk away and have someone else clean up the blood. Don’t fall for it.

Oh. If only it were funny…

Horrible april fools joke considering whats happening with TL

Soo… less people than what normally tune in to watch WNF’s weeklies is huge numbers? Ive seen more people watching Champ make CJ showstopper cry on FGTV lol.

Eh, they were getting 7.5k-8k viewers for Marvel top 8. That’s similar to what UFGT got, I think.

Very true, however, those who sat at home “silently-boycotting” the tournament and praising the KOF community for taking a stand are worse.
These same people obviously closed an eye on their pro “friends” taking the exact opposite stand.

Doing this they manage to appear just and morally correct people, but their ethics were very flawed…

UFGT got 13k for Marvel top 8 and over 8k for Divekick…

Also to add, RevLA got at least a little more numbers than PowerUP 2012… And PowerUP '12 didnt have great numbers…

Of all that’s happened, I still don’t understand why KOF pay out was so low. Was EVO not a great enough indicator for how incredible this game is? how does SFxT still clear even 2k at this point? At SF25 in Austin, when the (less than) hype man asked the crowd about SFxT, everyone booed. The only saving grace was free shirts being thrown around like gold coins at peasants. I have like 7 of those bad boys. XL if anyone wants one free.

And guess who all makes top 3… just throwing it out there. paypuh.

If one were inclined to do so, you could argue that essentially running off the KOF community was a bad business move as the event lost numbers in attendance, credibility, possibly money, maybe sponsorships, trust and online viewership. Was all this really worth avoiding 3 simple requests? I think much more is owed to the KOF community once the dust settles.

Wait are you saying it’s shady to give a pot bonus to a game run at s tournament because you don’t think it needs to be there?

KoF pot was lower than the rest because it isn’t high profile title (Capcom titles are the holy grail, MK9 is eSports still).

Considering west coast dominates this game, I highly disagree, but I know where you’re coming from and agree wholeheartedly with the rest of what you say.

Also, considering at how you want to label this as either a major or just another tourney, you’d think KOF’s impact would be felt this soon after EVO.

What was the expected turnout of KoF compared to the other games? THat might have affected pot distributions…
Also fuck anyone who hates on Pokemon. I challenge anyone to a Pokemon Snap money match.

Oscar The Answer said The KOF guys gave JN/TL a chance this year because they were grateful for what they did for them in 2011 even though they knew some of the wrong or things they thought were rumors. But their interaction with TL/JN up till this tourney were fine.

Oscar even admitted he was wrong to attend and should of listened to his peers warnings not to attend.

yah, but everyone has their own reasons. Who is to say if you were in their shoes you would not do the same and attend. Everyone has their own reasons. Maybe you and I would not attend no matter how much was offered & let say we were top players that had good chance to possibly win 1st prize money. Many people might not believe you and I if we say we would still not attend if this was the case.

Infrit was a good example of this, he was kind of vocal on twitter and boycotted the event, event though he could of probably got top 8 in marvel.

I could understand your gripe.

That april fools joke was probably the biggest mistake I’ve made in 27 years of life.

You up for a 4th gen match at ARK? I prefer VGC rules but could humor you with different options.

Unfortunately I quit playing the video game after playing the 2nd gen in Japanese (impossible to figure out what those moon runes meant when you’re 13 lol…). I’d be glad to play some oldschool TCG with you though lol. All my best decks got stolen or lost unfortunately though… but I have a ton of random cards haha.

No, it’s shady to guarantee pot bonuses for games that won’t have big numbers. Look at at any major. Most only have pot bonuses for main games, or for games that the TO personally loves.

They had to fill out forms at the 25th Anniversary SF Tournament in Austin too.
