Yeah, it is perplexing how Planet -85k continued to have any legitimacy for so long. I think there’s always the issue of trying to separate the jackasses at teh top from the people who are just trying to have some fun/get an opportunity.
You guys should also realize that TOs can’t pop off everytime something happens at another event we don’t like. It’s not professional, you want to give others the benefit of the doubt, and sometimes it’s more of a difference of perception than Good vs. Evil.
Oh, I wish that was just it. They have fucked over the Texas community so many times.
Remember Texas Showdown? Yea…
From what I’ve been reading, seeing bias interviews, etc, John Nelson actions seem very forgivable compare to the shit PZ John stir up. Had I not been involved with a community that dealt with Planet Zero, than yes I’d be like "WTF THIS NELSON GUY?!?! OMG!!"
But because we’ve been through far, far, far, far, worse… I’m reading all this and watching the videos and my only reaction is “that’s it?”.
Waste of pop corn.
Exactly. If someone said they would pay you for your services, what’s the problem with not taking the job? Because some community will look down on you for working for money? The community ain’t putting money in their pockets, so I don’t see why people have an issue with Hazmat streaming for John Nelson.
Now if John Nelson doesn’t pay Hazmat for streaming, then there’s a problem.
<==== Raw interview with John.
Most of that interview is me trying to be nice and get him comfortable to talk about the business scene. Most of what he gives me is so scattershot and incosistant-- it just doesn’t work. It went 17 minutes. STUPID…
This whole thing just screams ‘the word is out that we are supposed to hate this guy, rally the troops!’
as I said before, if any players at Rev 2012 want to share their experiences, positive or negative, or if TL themselves have legitimate proof to defending against what has been stated here, I for one will welcome it.
If it looks like a duck and quacks like a duck…
Regarding JN, he’s definitely inexperienced and cocky, but I have yet to see any evidence of any criminal activity at this year’s Rev.
Regarding the sexist comments, I know the FGC wants to keep it on the low but I say let it explode because the FGC needs to wake up and realize that there’s a difference between making jokes in your own room in your own house during your own session with your own friends and commentating on a public stream that will be on record forever for millions if not billions of future fans to watch.
First and foremost, I hope that this means you at least enjoyed your time at Rev. Because after the whole KoF fiasco I’d hope at least some people are having a good time.
I’m definitely not claiming to be a lawyer or whatever, so I won’t try to answer the question by literally defining what is/isn’t a crime. However, I do think it’s wrong if you “guarantee” something and then come up with something different. Although the whole SFxT thing is still up in the air… and as TL’s twitter suggested it might’ve just been miscommunication… someone wrongfully telling an influential player the pot is reduced.
Most of my antagonism towards TL comes from the way one man, John Nelson, specifically dealt with the managerial aspects of Team HORI, which had a direct impact on at least 3 friends I know and trust. And then all the problems with previous tournaments.
I will say this: if Rev 2012 has ended up 100% clean, the money is legit, the KoF crew ended up just having trust issues, whatever, then I am happy for everyone who attended. 5-10k pots are nothing to sneeze at, especially for fighting games. And I am not beyond believing people can correct the errors in the past, even if it takes them 2-3 years. TL twitter said they will post something explaining everything that happened, so I am looking forward to that. I want more player feedback as well. The whole story is what I’m striving for; I’m well aware at this point everything is one-sided.
Although if I’m allowed to be human for a second… I will never like Nelson for his… resistance towards FFR. I mean, really now?
Tournaments like RevLA crash and burn because of empty promises made to sponsors and using big money as your only tool to attract players. This money always comes with an asterisk since it more than likely relies on getting enough people to attend to fund these prizes. I doubt he could get prosecuted for that but it’s hardly ethical.
No one needs to prove JN is a criminal, 99% of the community would be happy if he would just go away. Some sort of action needs to be taken or otherwise he’s going to attempt something even more desperate and ridiculous next time since he’s already burned a lot of bridges.
RedRapper kind of covered this,
But I think the majority of you are “wrong” about John Nelson. He isn’t this evil guy trying to screw over the community and take all their money and make himself into this great person. He’s not trying to use the community to boost himself in the world and dick us over. I mean… he’s not JaredR…
John Nelson is just socially inept and incredibly stupid. His constant dicking over the community is because he HONESTLY BELIEVES THE THINGS HE IS SAYING, he just doesn’t understand how totally wrong and incorrect he is. He doesn’t see what’s wrong with promising a prize pot, then backing out because sponsors didn’t pull through (due to his own incompetence). He doesn’t get why not having contracts and breaking your word is something bad. In his eyes “I tried my best to do it, but things didn’t work out, that’s not my fault”. “I’m still trying my best for the community”.
It doesn’t excuse him at all, and the community is better off not dealing with him, but to brand him as an evil person using the community is something entirely different. The guy is just a moron.
If the money wasn’t there in the first place, then yes. Nelson is one of those fools, to me, that would screw a “lower” game like KOF XIII and use the pot to fund other games like AE, or bribe one of the top players to advertise the tournament on twitter. This man clearly has no business sense, and has no respect to the community if all he does is flash the cash around. Only if Oscar wasn’t so insistent on having a third party hold the pot(according to one account that I read), then they, the BB and the P4A communities would be in trouble.
Same here.
When Texas Showdown aftermath happened I heard emails were being sent to some high profile TO’s to at least showcase what was done at TS and for some type of professionalism to be mandated so at least streams and the running of the tourney would look good compared to that pile of crap.
Do you have to take the opposing fucking side in every god damn thread you enter in?
How badly do you enjoy jocking the devil’s shit to be his bloody advocate?
Xes is here and not suggesting there are ulterior motives
…this is strange…
I think that should sum up Wong and Champ very well. All they care about was the pot, and were advertising the living hell out of the tournament just to ensure that the money would be there. Remember, Nelson needs 47k just to meet his bonus pots.
If you’re going to do something (like run a tournament), do it well or not at all.
Thats a bit rough. I would expect hiccups here and there. But This guy has run enough events to do so finally.
Or I’m just cynical
**its not every thread though, you wound me sir!
