I like all these characters as well~ I don’t really consider any of them top notch anchors unfortunately…though if you’re really sick with Chris i’m sure he can get the job done. As for colors, Chris #2 (Blue) + Ironfist (Blue) + Cap DLC (His other blues would be alright too)
Hulk’s Anti-Air Gamma Charge Assist; It has super armor, comes out pretty fast, and stuffs almost everything
I’m starting to believe that playing a good defensive game in UMVC3 won’t get you as far as it did back in say a game like MVC2, especially if you stop and look at how everyone else plays this game.
For starters, look at which characters keep winning most of the tournaments on the streams for example. Notice how most of these fighters that keep winning are usually characters that can gain space and control it (regardless of whether its a quick process or not) rather than defending their own personal space. However some teams can defend their personal space yes, but these usually seem like their agitating their enemy to come to them and allowing for the player to constantly bait the opponent into mistakes that will often leave the player at an advantage in the match.
Characters with high mobility options are usually going to be seen at a major advantage in UMVC3, regardless. While characters that lack mobility will usually be seen falling prone to mix-ups, 50-50’s, and so on.
I strongly disbelieve that having a vertical assist for Chris’s point game is necessary. Chris does not have Cable’s AHVB loop, or Hawkeye and Strange’s full screen hypers for example. Most anti-air assists will hurl Chris’s enemies back into the air. Which is considered to be his blindspot. So therefore, why give him an assist that will just put the opponent back in the space that almost everyone says that he can’t control? On another note, jam session and vajra are the only two AA’s that I strongly feel will work.
An assist that can push the enemy back is most recomended but to some extent. Chris works best at mid-screen IMO, where he can setup traps with grenade toss and low shot, Cr. H, J. shotgun to help give him enough time to setup these traps that can stop offensive assualts from happening if done correctly. Any assist that can stall the enemy long enough for Chris to chuck out a grenade or two is most recomended. Assists that can do this are TK overdrive, hurricane kick, plasma beam, unibeam, repulsor blast, double lariat, ankle/neck slice and weasel shot.
alrighty Chris boards, I got a whole host of questions and I’m really interested in seeing what you guys have to say.
So I’ve noticed a lot of you are running Chris on point. Is it possible to run him 2nd? Because my team, so far, is Wesker-B/Chris-B/Spencer-B, and I fear that switching the order might make Wesker a bit of a dead weight since there aren’t really any of his assists that benefit Chris. So, what are your thoughts on Chris going 2nd given that A. my main guy abuses the traditional call gun fire teleport behind them deal, and B. Chris and Spencer already work fine as far as combos go?
Furthermore, if I did wind up running Chris on point, who should fill in the 2nd or 3rd slot? I’ll narrow the discussion down a bit: the characters I’m interested in using (other than the 3) are: Iron Man, Shuma, Wright, Storm, Felicia, Chun, Nemesis, Akuma, Strider, Tron, and Skrull.
The vertical assist lets you deal with two important matchups, and possibly a third with Morrigan. The vertical assist compliments and is a bit of an answer to those matchups where Chris’ blind spot is abused by characters who benefit (Or has good options) from super jump height: Trish (Hop Scotch/Peekaboo), Wesker (Gun + Teleport), Doom (Finger Lasers/Foot Dive), Zero (Neutral game with Air Sword), Morrigan (Flight Canceled Soul Fist), Magneto (Magnetic Blast), and there are a few more I may have missed, but those are the important matchups right off the bat. Looking at all those characters I named, those are arguably all characters you WILL see often. The Morrigan matchup I’ve discovered recently as I’ve played against Dacidbro a handful of times within the past month. The matchup is basically similar to Trish, but she does Trish’s job better of staying in the air and controlling space. I was playing against Dacidbro’s Morrigan against Chris on point and the matchup is extremely similar to that of Trish but even worse. In a 1v1 matchup, Morrigan from that angle destroys Chris especially with her Astal Vision which will hit Chris out of most attempts at Super Jump Gun Specials. It’s not like the matchup Trish where in a game of wearing the other person down, Chris has an easier time.
I’ve always felt Jam Session is one of Chris’ best assists offensively and defensively. Also, Sentinel drones I know for a fact helps Chris immensely since they can halt teleporters to an extent and give Chris time to throw out grenades.
With all this being said, if you can’t protect your assists, all this will be useless.
I just picked up chris and I am sure that I will have him on my main team which is Chris/Ryu/Morrigan, with chris on point I usually just jump around doing gun shot into shotgun and call morrigan assist till I can get a hit confirm with him,and with chris I dont really use meter much so just in case he dies ryu will have about 3 or 4 meters usually from the matches Ive played with him
Apparently I need to use spencer on my team cause everybodies been saying Chris/Spencer are a great teamwork and they meet up to their standards.
My team was Chris/RR/Dr.Strange
Im switching to Chris/Spencer/RR
or Chris/Spencer/Dr.Strange
Either way, more people are saying Spencer is an excellent teammate for Chris!!!
Shouldn’t be bad. Plenty of meter for Spencer to play with if he ends up by himself. Chris and Wesk are good batteries. Likely several opportunities for some of dat THC
Played around with a lot of teams and now i think im going to just stick with Chris/Gun Task/H.Shot Doom/HM. The team is really solid as all the characters on the team have 1mil HP(i think?) so if they hit me(which usually if they hit me Doom/HM or a grenade hits them stopping there combo) there gonna have to work for that K.O. Even if chris dies task can go all honzo gonzo mode on that bootay and if its just doom well. . . .footdive? =D. Incoming characters for the most part have trouble aganist this team because you have grenades, missiles, and a man with a flamethrower just waiting to put you in a bad position.Push blocking your way out of the chip/flame setup pushes me full screen which makes for a happy chris >.>. Task assist helps chris out with zoning, traps, and just adding on some dmg to combos. Oh and DHC to safety for this team is pretty decent. I don’t have much trouble with chars that have high mobility cuz they just end up landing on some explosive and teleporters usually just land right ontop of hidden missiles. I either find myself forcing my opponets to super jump to get mixed up or wave dash into a magnum/grenade to the face. I think the team is pretty well rounded when it comes to zoning or rushdown because Doom/HM (if called correctly) kinda just lets you do what you want.
Chris (gun fire)/Spencer (slant shot)/Strider (vajra)
I’ve found amazing synergy with this whole team, it’s actually pretty disgusting.
Chris has problems with airborne opponents. Not only does Vajra cover that space, but also creates a hard knockdown if they are hit airborne, leading to hit confirmable OTG damage. Spencer assist helps in the same regard and also serves as a combo extender.
One touch kill combo off of low B

If need be you can DHC into Spencer Bionic Maneuvers, which can combo into another Bionic Maneuvers via Low Air Grapple OTG > Air Wire Pull > Armor Piercer > Bionic Maneuvers. Both supers easily combo into each other from anywhere and do great damage. If you have 4 meters you can actually combo Sweep Combo > Bionic Maneuvers > Bionic Maneuvers > Sweep Combo. Silly.
Chris builds a ton of meter, which is great for both Spencer (Bionic Arm) and Strider (Ouroboros).
I actually have a corner combo that does 1m+ damage for one meter in the corner, similiar to this combo. I just haven’t recorded it yet :P. Basically a mixture of the two.
I’m planning on putting together a team that consist of Chris on point and Strider as anchor, but I need some suggestions on the middle. I want to either put Sent or Wesker. I think wesker benefits from strider as well and as we all know he’s a beast in this game. Sent on the other hand is still a good character and drones would help control space and add in chip damage. So I was wondering if anyone could help out between these two characters or just throw someone else out there
I’ve been grinding it out with an experimental team of Chris/Dante/Strider, and I have to say it really works. Dante’s Jam Session is a great anti-air and Strider assist locks down for Chris, and gives an OTG opportunity for Dante. Unfortunately, Vajra isn’t as fast as some other assists and gets stuffed sometimes, but level three x-factor ouroborous is just nuts.
Between Sent/Wesker, I’d say go Sent since he provides drones and overall just works with the team better. You may even want to try Chris/Strider/Sent (though I worry that the DHC damage won’t be as strong). I want to say Wesker opens up a kill combo for Chris in the corner, but that’s using Wesker’s Jaguar Kick assist.
Spencer and Doom are also good choices, with Spencer giving his Slant assist for full damage on the grenade launcher and Doom providing Hidden Missiles.
I’m also recommending Doctor Strange since his Eye of Agomatto sets up a death combo in the corner and is overall useful for keeping people off Chris. You can also try the Bolts of Balthak, but I wouldn’t recommend it since you don’t have as much defense versus straight rushdown.
I’ve put spencer on and the combos and damage are just flat out amazing. My only thing is that spencer doesn’t really help keep people out. I think Strider’s vjara assist might be able to but Im not too sure.
Chris and Deadpool make a really good team as Deadpool’s OTG doesn’t count as a ground bounce. Can one touch kill off a crouching a.

I’m interested in learning Doom, Spencer, Hawkeye, Storm, Cap Dante and Vergil.
Spencer slant shot for full damage on grenade launcher, Doom missiles for free chip I assume would be best fir them. Dante’s Jam session or Weasel Shot seem handy too.
For storm I figure Whirlwind as it’s durable and pushes back.
But what of Vergil? (Chris benefits him since he’s a battery/ gunfire assist I figure)
