slaves couldn’t read so i doubt they were justifying anything beyond what they’re slave master told them. and i’m pretty sure you’d be hard pressed to find any significant number of black people (that could and had read the bible) in the 1800’s that felt the bible justified them being enslaved, much less now.

Actually iirc there was a lot of people who justified their condition through the bible, or felt that God would eventually free them. Also there were plenty of slaves who could read, but they obviously didn’t broadcast that fact, most of the slave revolts, though unsuccessful, were led by literate slaves/freemen. Although I’m pretty sure there were more Phillis Wheatley’s(a slave btw who could both read and write) than there were Nat Turners.(Another slave who could read)
