JAPAN THREAD 2012: 2011 was a bit shaky, but we're still here!

Sure I’m “not” in Japan anymore, but at the same time, I never left the country. I just need to be sure about this, because “but I thought _____?” doesn’t fly with immigration. Even if I don’t turn in my card, I’ll have to use an airplane eventually.

did you ever try to register for a gaijin card after you got the SOFA card?

It is the weekend now, so let me wait for a reply that should come on Tuesday about this. There are immigration “lawyers”, but I would stay away from the Japanese ran ones as they have a bad rep from what I have heard (a dont give a fuck attitude about gaijin) and the gaijin ran ones hire the Japanese that they trust and know that could get the “Japanese” part of the job done without the cultural/discriminate bullshit that runs with it.

when do sbo tickets go on sale? we can get them from any 7-11 or lawsons right?

Reno usually has some translation of all of this done…

@IparryU- I haven’t dealt with immigration since getting in the grind at work. Anyway thanks for looking into that.

Just from what my friend has told me today it is easily done just by going to the ward office and registering a new gaijincard with your SOFA ID and passport along with some type of proof of address.

About your concern with going to Narita and getting in troible, you are SOFA… no need for the host country’s ID as that is all on the agreement.

My friend could be wrong, but I have also E-mailed my Navy buddy but he is in Singapore on biz so he may take a few days to reply.

What is your timeframe for getting this settled?

You can get Tougeki tickets from Lawson or Ticket-pia this year:

Info is here:

However, I am very, very concerned about going to Tougeki this year since it appears to be fucking outdoors.

A video game tournament… outdoors.

WTF?!?!?!?

:FAIL: humid… hot… humid… sweaty hands on arcade sticks…

Hi guys (I think this is my first post on SRK actually, so hajimemashite),
I’m a FG fan based in Tokyo (in a place about 20min from Shinjuku) looking to play some good matches. After a brief hiatus I’m back to playing P4U at my local arcade.
I’m in Japan for summer and winter breaks and I recently got a PS3. Although I play online with friends in the states it’d be cool if I could get some matches in with good connections. Right now I play UMVC3 and Skullgirls (and SSF4AE 2012, though I don’t play that much), and I plan on buying P4U once it comes out.
My PSN is tsubame41. Feel free to add me!

Well, the email that was sent to me said I have until October to turn in the card. I’ll go to the ward office in September, after I gather enough info and have a backup plan, in case it goes bad for me. Anyway I appreciate the help. I’ll ask around on this base if anyone else was in my situation. I can’t be the only one.

This is some feedback I got from a friend:
As long as the SOFA status when into effect before the CA visa expired, you’re cool.
Make sure you get your SOFA stamp for your passport. If you tell me which military branch/base you’re working for, I can find out where to get that if you don’t have it.

The SOFA stamp is only so you don’t have problems when traveling OUT of Japan because you’ll have your military civilian (orange) ID card which is sufficient for ID outside the base in Japan, but if you need to leave Japan and come back in, you’ll need that stamp.

Welcome!

I play SG as well… but havent even turned on the PS3 for months… work and Starcraft 2… add me and we can get on if I ever get on…

Sounds good! I’ll add you on PSN.

i have no idea why im so hype for sbo…i hope this year truly is the last one …

sunday >>>>>> saturday imo

THANK YOU ALL!
Also SBO is outside this year in Narita?

Hey guys.
I’m currently in Kawasaki for holidays. Anybody in Kanagawa up for some matches? Also, are there any hotspots to look out for good competition around here? Im mostly into SF4, play some marvel and 3S as well, although I really suck at those haha.
Ive lived in Japan for a while before, but that was kinda rural, so i dont really know my way around Tokyo that much, except for the obvious spots. Would love to get into the local scene a little!

First page buddy.

Not sure who is in Kanagawa… but my recent arcade experience have been… boring.

Dead everywhere I used to go to: (

Hey guys, I’m going to be in Tokyo from the 13-28 of August, near Waseda University. If anyone lives close or wants to meet up and get some games in, letm me know

Hey, I’m currently in Tokyo, in Setagaya until the 27th of August. I mostly play Marvel and SSBM. Would love to know where I can find some places or events to play Marvel. ^^

Kind of the same here, at least for AE. If there’s any cabinets at all they’re mostly empty or some casual player’s on it. Where’d all the random beasting salarimen go?
