Hey, I have some noob questions since I don’t live anywhere with an arcade. I know it’s 100 yen per play, but what’s usually the best deal you can get for your times worth there? I know roughly that they use a card system, I’m just not sure of the usual rates. And do winners stay on playing more rounds with a round cap?
You may or may not have some time to go shopping for a stick when you’re going through tokyo orientation. Plus they’re extremely strict with baggage and carrying all the tokyo orientation stuff along with your bags AND a decent stick will be a lot to carry.
Most “anime/gaming” stores close by like 7 or 8 pm so you’re looking at a very short window for shopping (especially if you’re running straight from orientation to akiba or somewhere and then searching from store to store for good deals). If you can pull it all off, more power to ya. But, you’ll have prefectural dinners to attend and some other stuff that might fill up your time at night. You can buy sticks are a huge variety of stores but if you wanna go shopping for good deals it’ll take some time and some serious walking around. The hotel isn’t exactly close to shinjuku station but there is a pretty big electronics district right by there. You might be able to find a stick in there somewhere! =)
They have plenty of different sticks (and it really depends on the player, I prefer TE for example) but HRAPs are really good sticks. I think you’ll be happy with them. Plus they’re the only type of stick you’re likely to find all over the place (TEs pretty much only on the used market). I would suggest playing it by ear. It might be better to visit Tokyo later on your own and get a stick or have one shipped to your place. You probably won’t know until you get there and have a better grasp of your schedule.
If you need anything else, please ask!
Good arcades are usually 50 yen a play. Real talk. Also winners don’t usually have a round cap. I’ve seen 80~90 win streaks before. Most people just get up and let the guy lose in arcade mode or finish arcade mode. No one is like “Hey you, get up.”
ahh thanks, but i mean is there a way I can like, pay x amount for say 5 hours or two hours? I was thinking if I’m practicing a new game I wouldn’t be winning that much, and it’d be costly to keep putting in 50cents for the session.
welcome to the arcade culture. where every cent counts. lol… if you wanna play for hours and save money, play on console… i think i spend an average of 1000yen a day at the arcades… though i think i wanna cut to maybe 500 yen a day, which is possible if im only using my main, but lately ive been fuckin around with other chars and i lose more, 100 yen a credit hurts lol
as for freeplays, hard to say, for newer games arcades dont really do freeplay, i only know much about ae and from what i know theres only one place that has freeplay and its in saitama but i forgot the name of the arcade. most other places(in kanto/tokyo) area its still 100yen per credit, though 50yen a credit arcade is slowly increasing in numbers since ae is out on console and all… smaller arcade though will probably stick with 100 yen since if they reduced it to 50yen, they wont get anything… i was told by a friend who works at an arcade, that capcom charges 50 yen perplay(or something) as data/transmission fees… so if 50 yen a play, no profit…
This is gonna be a shot in the dark I’m pretty sure, but I may be participating in a volunteer program over in Ohda-shi, Shimane-ken for 3-6 months. Does anyone know of any arcades with AE in that area? I’m hoping so, but I know that’s practically the boondocks of Japan…
Just copped AE for PS3. Hit me up: HelgenX-JP
I too require this hook up.
Please PM me for games and nanpa LOL

I will be studying japanese in Osaka until the 5th of August. It would be alot of fun if anyone of the veterans could show me the ropes in Osaka sometime. Trying to get as many contacts and friends as a can during my stay! Anyone intressted in meeting up and haveing a drink or something like that? Currently live in Kire-uriware but my school is in namba, 3 minutes from Sega Avion.
You don’t actually have to attend any of the JET orientation sessions… there’s no attendance check (as of 2010)… … . i think i only went on the first day… clubbed at night… then slept in for the rest of it…
BTW carry-ons generally have no weight limit (but there’s a size limit), so… if you’re feeling strong… you can just pack your xbox/stick into your carry-on… that’s what i did… it was heavy as hell to lift into the overhead, but at least i have my xbox and TE with me now =P
Thanks to reno, I will be in osaka from the 22-27th. If anyone knows of some good spots to play or wants to meet up let me know
