Heading to Shinjuku for school in three weeks. How’s the arcade scene over there? I play SFIV, some third strike, JoJo (last time I was in Japan, this was still being played at some places), GGAC, and some T6.
Also, where do you guys (the ones currently in Japan) usually hang out?
Shinjuku itself has a few good arcades. The Taito station by the south east exit is the hot spot for SFIV. Theres also Shinjuku Sportsland which has a little of everything. You can also check out Club Sega by the south exit where MIU works, and near there is also Joybox which is famous for Melty Blood and some Arcana.
My recommendation and most frequented arcade is Mikado in Takadanobaba. It also has just about everything and is the best arcade hands down for GGAC (they have 10 cabs!)
If you like 3S you might wanna check out Game Versus in Nishi-Nippori. They stay open almost all night and lots of 3S players go there.
Im at Mikado just about every weekend so if you wanna get some games in just hit me up there
Edit: Hey I just noticed token717 and Big War are near me. I actually work in Oogaki. Drop me a line sometime. Would like to get some offline sessions in and advice. Still not so hot in SSF4.
Btw, anyone know of any tournaments in the Japan scene. I know of Osu arcade, but I don’t know the schedules or anything. Any help would be appreciated
It costs a lil bit more than usual Japan tourney but its a different kind of fun, we need more players too!
As for Nagoya, dont they still have NSB? (im not familiar with nagoya at all, its easy to find tourneys on the SF4/SSF4 BBS though you have to be able to understand japanese)
oh and SBO is in September(date not decided yet but its planned for September according to the official site)
hi guys, i’ll be going to japan for 2 weeks in august. how much does it approx. cost to spend an evening at the acarde? i’m an ok player but i guess i’ll still get beaten up most of the time.
i’ve been to japan once but didnt really play at arcades because my friends. we only went to some big sega arcade near disney land and played some random stuff.
anyone want to meet and show me around a bit to play some games and get drunk?
last time i went to a club in roppongi where you only paid entrance and could drink as much as you want, it was like heaven, is it like that in most japanese clubs? are there some cheaper ones? i remember the entrance being very expensive
We’ll be gone by the time you get here, but I can answer a few of your questions:
As far as cost, depends what arcade you go to and how good you are. At BigBox, it’s 100 yen per 2 play and if you’re really good obviously you stay on the machine. However, competition there is lacking (average BP there is about 20k BP for those that have cards). Perhaps a better deal is Shibuya’s Shinjuku Sportsland which is 300 yen for free play from 7:30 till 11:30 PM. Also, TRF Nagano has free play almost every day, but I don’t know if there are a lot of people that actually go to that one. Shibuya’s Shinjuku Sportsland still has a ton of people that go and are really good. It’s definitely a great experience and even if you’re not at their level, I’d still recommend going.
As far as clubbing, once again it depends. A popular club for foreigners (Gas Panic) has zero entrance fee but you have to have a drink in your hand at all times. If you want to be super cheap, best thing to do is buy one drink and just hold it the entire night. Or do what I did and go with someone else who’s more likely to drink and just hold THEIR drink the entire night.
Most other clubs, in my experience, charge an entrance fee (probably between 2000 and 4000 yen?) and then you get anywhere from 0 to 2 free drinks. Once you get in, drinks are pretty pricey.
If you mean Kyoto Station, then you can take the bus (#5 or #205 will do) to Shijo Kawaramachi. From there it’s just a short walk to Teramachi Dori, which is in pretty plain sight. A-Cho is in Teramachi Dori. Fighting Cabs are up the escalator.
Also, GGs Chaotix @ A-Cho. I saw the overheads comin’, but my brain couldn’t react! lol
