JAPAN THREAD 2010: Let's do this ish!

Nice! I definitely want to hit up nationals on Sunday. Anyone else going? Want to meet up? Where in Akihabara are the nationals held at?

I hit up Club Sega in Shinjuku earlier tonight and dropped some money into the SF4 and 3s machines. First gaming since I’ve been in Japan and had a blast even though I lost a lot lol.

Thanks for the heads up Reno!

I dont read a lick of Japanese, but I assume the location found on this link is where it is held…

questions

Hi everyone, I’m in Tokyo Japan till this coming Thursday and will be going to SF4 Nationals on Sunday.

I went o Big Box today in Takadanobaba and was hoping to see people playing SF4 (Daigo, etc) But no one was there! I went around 2 and stayed till about 3:30. Does anyone know if people still play there? And if so do people go at a certain time?

Thanks!

Update

So I went to Big Box again today (Saturday) around 2 to 5pm. Saw Mago practicing with Iyo and some other top players, no daigo though =\

Played some regular japanese players and did ok, but then got my ass kicked by a akuma user who kept infinite comobing me haha.

Btw, for those who have been to Big Box, there was this jap girl there that mained Saget, and damn she was GOOD. Not top tier Japanese player but she held her own and won many matches against some of the regulars girl. She never missed any FADC’s to ultra and pretty much knew Saget in and out, pretty crazy seeing this girl go on a 5 game win streak.

Hmm weird i thought it was already mentioned somewhere along this thread(or maybe the other thread) that bigbox aint that happening anymore, the place was only crowded back then during pre-sbo until a few months afterwards and then they moved to taito station shinjuku south instead. Sure i guess some people still go to bigbox from time to time but not as often as back then… and that was back then, not really sure about now.

plus, you went there at 2 till 330pm yesterday, on a friday? Obviously no one’s gonna be there LOL people were out working and shit, try going to arcades after 5pm till late night, most of the players have day jobs nahmean.

Thanks hfz for the info, do you know what building they gotto in Shinjiku?

Taiton Station (south exit shinjuku) - i havent been there, so i cant give you directions but shouldnt be hard to find since its taito station after all.

Saw Iyo’s history and he fought daigo there yesterday @1120pm.

So yeah, go there at night or something if you wanna watch top players, daigo, whoever.

have fun

few questions, any help would be appreciated

1: I got a sf4 card today, I noticed that it counts down from 500 after every match, what happens when it hits zero

2: how come even when I lose games, I still gain bp, how does that system work

3: so I played this guy like 2 hours straight at the arcade, after he’s done, I offered to shake his hand, he just ignored me and left, is that normal?

1: the card wont be usable and you’ll need to buy a new one to replace it.

2: its like that when you’re just starting, once you reached a certain amount of BP(im not sure how much), you wont gain BP anymore upon losing.

3: if i have to guess, either its some kind of discrimination OR just the fact that its not really their culture to shake hands? a bow or a nod + smile should be sufficient.

oh as for the bp system, you gain more bp fighting people around your level, i once beat a grandmaster player and gained so little BP it aint worth the effort lol…

thanks a ton for the info, really appreciate it

The guy wasn’t being rude to you, at Japanese arcades you’re not supposed to talk to or look at your opponent. That’s why the machines are head to head. When you offered to shake his hand, you put him in an awkward situation so he left. This is also how the country works in general. Japan 101.

Yo, Not sure if you get this in time but I def want to hit up the nationals. I’ll PM you my contact info.

Some Spoilers?

So Nationals just passed and I got a chance to play a little SSF4, although it wasn’t much to go by since I was just messing around. It was pretty damn COLD at the event too since it was held out doors.

I am disappointed by the event since my favorite player got knocked out relatively early, but there were some good matches noneless.

I don’t speak any japanese but to my observation I believe it was announced that Super Street Fighter 4 WILL be going to the arcades, at least in japan; can anyone confirm this for me?

Overall the event was fun and I look forward to Evo in July

Yes, it was announced that they are going to develiop an arcade version of ssf4. Though nothing has really started yet, the decision has been made.

…(obligatory weather comment) i think i caught a cold or summin…

event was great and all but the highlight of the day for me was beating kyabetsu twice in a row in casuals LOL.

as for ssf4, i only managed to play one match as abel, cant say much to be honest, guess ill just wait for my copy.

sorry to bother you again, hfz69, but I was wondering when I burn out 1 sf4 card, how do I transfer the bp info to a new card, can’t believe I played over 100 games in less than 24 hours, thanks for the help

you will be prompted to insert another card, its simple really, no need to sweat about it.

thanks for the answer hfz69. appreciate the info… I sweat about everything though, lol

Just want to say, after watching a bit of the nationals, I went to play SF4 at the Sega arcade, the japanese players are all really nice, and gracious. Had a great time there.

And nice meeting the other 2 SRKers @ the arcade.

Was good to meet you too Flashkick! Thanks for the info on the cards. Both Torp and I weren’t sure if they needed to be activated or what. I had a blast at the tournament and was seriously impressed by Capcom’s event. I’ve never seen anything like this in the states. I was sneaking pictures and some videos when I could behind the Capcom event staff and was able to catch the tail end of the announcement.

I got some decent pictures to and will add to this post when I’ve got them organized and everything.
