Japan Arcade - Under New Ownership!

The first CvS2 we put in will be on a big 2 player cabinet. It’s one of those where the screen is kind of separate from the controls. There’s plenty of room for 2 players. That cabinet should be up today, barring any unforeseen problems.

Nathan, this is John, great meeting you last night. This place has enormous potential! Can’t wait to see what you guys do with it. Will be following this thread to see when SSIV consoles will be installed…

Is the CvS2 machine set up now, by any chance? If so, I’ll most likely make a trip there later today.

i may stop by today just for that cvs2 showcase cab.

btw any one play virtual on there?

Oh sick! When I do go down to LA I usually end up eating ramen in Little Tokyo and do some shopping and what not so this will just give me another reason to go hang around haha.

CvS2 is up and running, it’s in the spot that KoFMI:A used to be in (MIA was moved to where Beatmania was), right next to SF4.

Virtual On still has some problems that we haven’t gotten around to fixing. The P2 joysticks have some buttons that aren’t working. I’m not exactly sure what buttons don’t work, we just haven’t had enough time to check it out yet (Music games are getting the most played, so they’re sort of top priority; they needed and still need a lot of work).

But, it might boost your spirits to know that JA’s Virtual On is the second one (Cyber Troopers). A VO fan was explaining to me the ones that people play for tournaments and which is the best in the series. Apparently this is the best version, so maybe we’ll see some good VO comp in the future!

I will try to be there this Saturday…

Can I suggest you guys get some new sticks for Drummania?

Last time I was there they were two different lengths and one of them was old as hell.

So is it set then for cvs2 saturday, guys???

Already replaced with brand new ones ^_^. We need to make sure we get some spares, too, in case those break.

Not sure if I will be able to make it this Saturday.

I’ll only go if at least 4 ppl show up to play.

Virtual On sticks are working again. You can play 2 player versus!

Also, Tekken 5 has been replaced with Tekken 5: Dark Resurrection. I’ll check the buttons and sticks on that one soon.

BlazBlue: Calamity Trigger will probably be in pretty soon, we found a seller and as soon as we pick up the software we can put it in the arcade. We’re also working on getting Guilty Gear Accent Core for Japan Arcade. In the same breath when ordering GGAC, we asked about Melty Blood Actress Again. If they have any in stock, MBAA will go to FFA and MBACb will go to Japan Arcade.

I saw some play for 3S, SF4, ST, GGXX, HnK, MotW and MvC2 tonight, but no CvS2 play (maybe its the location?). A scene doesn’t just come automatically and it’s hard to get casual players into a game as complicated as CvS2, so it might be awhile before some good competition shows up.

Anyways, stick around for more updates and announcements!

Yeah I’m sorry I couldn’t make it. I had stuff to do with the family but I’ll try to make it there next weekend.

anybody out tonight for some sf4 matches?

And, what is the most active place in LA for some sf4 action?

if you recognize yourself trhough this post, nice matches yesterday evening akuma/boxer against my guile!

why is the ddr machine 75 cents now? it wasn’t good enough at 50 cents?

A lot of my friends that play DDR were complaining about that too.

If at all possible please change it back =[

is there not much of a fighting scene in metro LA? there are some marvel (and SF4 before it broke down…) regulars at Family Arcade (not the famous one, the hood one at LACC lol) but when I went to Japan before it was a pretty random crowd. for those interested Family Arcade has a lot of older fighters (three marvel2 cabs!) and Tatsunoko with ok machines. for me the main selling point is a beautifully maintained Pump Pro. anway,

2 questions about the machines:
-when I went before you guys had virtual on 2, are you correct in saying you only have cyber troopers now?
-is the ITG2 machine going to be a dedicab?

Japan isn’t too far so I’ll probably go from time to time, hopefully we can get more interest in this location going :3

Hey, sorry I’ve been gone for a week+, I’ve had 2 exams to juggle and have been really busy with work and other stuff.

idk the whole situation, it might have been meant to be set at 3 tokens for 4 songs (that’s what the new ITG machine is set at). I’ll talk to Ralph and try and get it straightened out.

Virtual On is tricky when you say which version there is. It’s my understanding that there are 4 Virtual On Machines, Virtual On, Virtual On: Cyber Troopers, Virtual On 2, Virtual On 2: Some subtitle. Japan Arcade has Virtual On: Cyber Troopers, which is the second game in the series. I’m told from a bunch of Virtual On heads that this is the best version, and they’re up for running tournaments on it now that its fixed.

The ITG machine will never be a didicab, sorry. It takes a lot of work to get a dedicab, and we already had an extra DDR cabinet in our warehouse. So the option was essentially, “free or thousands of dollars?” and we are on a budget >.>

As for Family Arcade, I visited the place earlier. It’s nice, but it’s very crowded. Also, the 3S, MvC2 and CvS2 are all at 2 tokens while Japan Arcade’s are 1 token. JA now has 2 MvC2 cabinets, 3 3S cabinets, and a working SF4 setup. We’ve also added a console set-up for Super Street Fighter 4

Oh yeah, I didn’t announce the SSF4 thingy for Japan Arcade. JA now has an arcade-style setup for the console Super Street Fighter IV. It isn’t on Xbox Live yet, but it will be very soon (it might actually bet set up for XBL now, just I haven’t been there since Saturday night). Until it’s on XBL, it will be on free play.

I also helped set up Super Arcade’s consoles. They now have Xbox’s set for a bunch of console games, and their console SSF4 should go online soon as well. When it’s all set up, Family Fun Arcade, Japan Arcade and Super Arcade will be able to play Super Street Fighter IV online against each other!

So yeah, there’s a lot to look forward to. I’m also going to try starting up an Initial D 5 tournament relatively soon, so get your practice on!

P.S. I took a bunch of pictures of the new setup at JA. I’ll upload them to photobucket soon.
