I am an AE2012 online warrior and what is this
Honest observation though daigo picking his nose gets front page exposure and this whole thing outside of this thread hasn’t been mentioned at all. If it wasn’t for me reading the gd I would have never known about this
you’ve been here for a while, why did you join this forum? to get better, right? here’s a random-ass explanation as to why people are upset:
let’s say you’re climbing a mountain. many people are climbing the same mountain you are. there are people above you and below you. higher up on the mountain you get the more visible you are to other people climbing the mountain and people on the ground. near the top, you see a camp with a few people in it. a helicopter is hovering over it. people in the helicopter are dropping pennies on the people in the camp to watch them eat each others’ shit on camera- and it looks like they are all doing it happily.
“lol i don’t know them. that doesn’t affect me,” you say. you’re still on the mountain though. still climbing up. people on the ground think you’re only climbing the mountain to eat some other dude’s shit for a penny and a closeup of your shit soaked face on the JumboTron. less and less people attempt to climb the mountain. less people climbing the mountain, the less people to film eating shit so the helicopter leaves. what’s left after that? a bunch of dudes that don’t give a fuck about the mountain anymore because they all have Hepatitis A.
but yeah, what HAV said. Players > Fans. hopefully this will get more players to be like “real talk no respect for pro players” and start trying to take the title instead of being afraid of them.
fuck yeah, Mr. White! corruption is ok because everybody does it! go science! :woot:
By this logic, what makes it any different if it was the NBA or NFL? They’re still getting payed to compete for our entertainment. NFL fans would stop going to games if something like this happened. Teams would go out of business. The whole league would be restructured. The owners would be punished for stupidly putting their hands on what should be a straight & fair game.
@ shaftagent
That makes sense, but I highly doubt most of the people are upset about what your stating though, if that were the reason most people were upset I would have no problem with it.
Maybe your not an idiot, but the majority of people complaining are.
And yeah I signed up here because I wanted to level up my game, find other mid west people to level up with, and talk ridiculous amounts of shit. Sadly life has taken some fucked up turns and I’m still waiting to take some legit cookies off some top players.
both players should not have been picked for the tournament IMO. Especially not Jago, he isn’t good at the game
I would have preferred seeing the east coast representative be Chris G, Dieminion, or Sanford or even could have gone w/ a midwest player like WolfKrone over Arturo and Jago, Team Spooky was already being represented w/ NerdJosh and Spooky.
Someone winning WNF should have been picked for So Cal, like Online Tony or Snake Eyes
For Europe Alioune should have been there instead of Ryan Hart, would have been great to see Alioune get some games in with US players
Combofiend, Flash, Ricky, the tekken guys were all good picks though, perhaps only 2 tekken guys would have been better though
As lame as this troll account is, I have to hand it to him, he accidentally drove a point home up in here.
Stay 6 and looking up to Lex Luger, FGC.
It all matters i have no problem with the hype and drama …i dont believe the matchs were thrown just the cosplay rivalry …i believe Mike got blown up at bar fghts and i believe and sad to say juri is not that great in this game,One of my favs since her arrival in ssf4 or jago had not cracked her tech and jago got blown the fuck up by the grapplers …so far poison and juri have shown to have low damage potential…still playing um… in all the matchs earlier that night against both teams he never did shit with juri ether , just kazuya,it did not work against mikes grapplers, like it did the contestants
Dear Jarekov,
Your post includes a mind-boggling amount of curse words :nono: You are out of strikes, I’m afraid I have to report you to an admin so you can get infracted.
Also, I’ve noticed that you are giving shaftagent a hard time. This constitutes as cyber-bullying, and cyber-bullying is illegal in some states. Don’t bully people on the internet
Hello. I am a stream monster. I have played fighting games casually for a long time, but only got serious for SF4. I watch pretty much every major that is streamed, barring real life issues getting in the way. I often watch WNF/Big 2, and occasionally watch player streams if I have nothing better to do. I often get together with friends to watch the final day of majors together. I have multiple Twitch accounts with various troll names.
I am also a player. I go to local gatherings whenever they are held (usually weekly). I often spend hours just playing fighting games with friends at my place since most of them are also into competitive fighters. I organize local tournaments, and run them with the help of another guy; I plan the events, round up players and setups, help transport TVs and consoles, and play in them myself. My friends are always on the lookout for new competitors, and we have recruited and trained multiple new players. I travel by bus, ferry, and more buses for a total of 5 hours each way to go to bigger tournaments held in the nearest big city. I play multiple games on GGPO, and am in a training mode for one game or another pretty much every day.
I would just like to say to you, and to everyone else with a similar attitude: *fuck you. *
Fuck you for implying that players cannot also be fans, and that stream monsters cannot be players. And fuck you for implying that I should be as complacent as you are about the issue of match fixing. I don’t care what goes on at locals with random players. But the idea of top players fixing matches at major events, and/or with official sponsorship money on the line, that really bothers me. It bothers me as a fan, because I don’t get to see the top-level competition that should happen; it bothers me as a player, because I am constantly striving to get better and eventually get to the level of those top players, and then I see that those top players don’t even care about competition? It also bothers me as an organizer: if I was running a tournament, or contributing money to a tournament as a sponsor, and I found out players were throwing matches and splitting pots, you can fucking bet I would be pissed, and I’d call them out on it.
This is not so much a response to the Mike Ross/Jago thing, as I believe that they only played up the drama, not that they also planned out the match (this seems to be pretty obviously what happened). But it is a response to the attitude of “whatever, match fixing happens all the time, stop caring.”
why the fuck is this in GD?
that’s wtf i’m talking about. if you just wanted to play for fun and not want to kick asses, you probably wouldn’t have joined the site.
no respect for pro players! mofos gonna make me break out my Capcom Pad Soldier!
the thing is, to be a pro player you have to be able to adapt, and it seemed like Jago wasn’t even trying to. remember Jago has beaten pretty much every pro player before. Seth Killian was even sounding confused on the mic when Jago was playing. now, Jago could have gotten bodied for free just like Mike got bodied for free at Barfights. the problem occurs when they are in the car talking about making their “beef” seem more dramatic and Mike singing about money. it implies collusion- which brings into question Mike’s loss at Barfights just as much as Jago’s loss on CrossAssault.
Where’s lastscene?
I’m glad you do so much for your local community. That’s great.
However, if you look at Andre Lambert as anything more than just some nigga that plays Street Fighter, YOU ARE WHAT’S WRONG WITH THE SCENE NOW.
I’m in my 11th year now of tournament play (including organizing as well). I’m originally from New York, and I know most of the top players from EC, personally. Most of them aren’t that honest. Most of them don’t care that much about the spirit of competition anymore. Almost ALL of them will cut a deal for guaranteed cash, before they risk it by having to push some buttons and spin a stick around.
Match fixing isn’t OK, because it’s been done forever… that’s not the argument. Match fixing is OK because, who give a fuck?
These are guys playing video games… and not very good video games, at that. That’s honestly half the problem. So many of the top players don’t even have the drive anymore, because they hardly like the games. Rivalries mean nothing, if playing itself, is just going through the motions. If you weren’t around, at tournaments like NEC, at ECC at the Break… seeing Sanford literally mortgage his future, so he could beat Justin Wong at MvC2 (and taking YEARS before he finally did it), you could never understand the REAL passion behind the game. Or the first US v. Japan (before we all just realized they were better, and gave them a 7-year long blowjob, before Choi turned it around and took down two tournaments at Evo 08)… the drive… the REAL spirit of competition… if you weren’t there for that, you wouldn’t understand how obvious it is, that it’s no longer there for most of these guys. They play because it’s free money, it makes up a decent amount of their social lives, and it’s just what they’re used to. That’s it.
But anyway… again… these are guys playing videogames. You may want to assign all sorts of arbitrary meaning to that, to justify spending your time/money just to lose to them, but sorry… it isn’t really there. There’s no valor. There’s no meaning. There’s nothing else. It sucks if this little event (that was OBVIOUSLY going to feature players conducting deals to ensure that as many people as possible took home that sponsorship money) burst your little bubble, but instead of whining about it, just grow up, and understand… there is (a tiny amount of) money in the scene now, and a few players good enough to get it. Those guys are gonna game the system to get that little bit of money, because they don’t give a shit about the childish little ideals you want Marvel vs. Capcom 3 to hold (as well they shouldn’t).
The players are not role models, they aren’t better than most because of their passion for the game, a lot of them aren’t even nice people at all… they are just people who have put in enough time to have a knack for this stuff (most of them cut their teeth on games they actually DID care about… and don’t give too much of a shit about the games out now), they see an opportunity to get some free money, so they take it. If people would stop this silly fandom, we wouldn’t have these players on this pedestal, with all these reason to not give a shit about the game (and focus on sideshow bullshit, phony rivalries, celebration dances, etc. instead, since that keeps “fans” interested).
Now wipe those tears, and go worry about something that actually matters.
Its mind bottling asshole, get your facts straight.
Yo for real… the fact that you:
A) Know about Andre’s tournament record
B) Can reference a past match between the two players involved
C) Actually care about the implications of one match on another one in the past
just shows that you care about this shit way too much. That’s the only problem I see here. I’m telling you… guys like you are the REASON Mike and Andre would (allegedly) sit down, and trump up some bullshit for show. Because you’re gonna sit there, lap it up, and go check Get Your Tournament for player stats, count who got more First Attacks, and go to the closest regional that Mike Ross is gonna be at, so he can sign your copy of Rival Schools.
These guys aren’t superstars. Stop making them out to be.
Where’s gongjoo?
Let’s recap this whole thing, particularly for HAV, since he’s still playing cvs2. haha
