J.Wong vs Daigo

BTW what was that stupid shit in the stream chat about Gootecks throwing sticks? I’m sure this was an EVO inside joke I missed, but wtf was that?

Yeah I didn’t mean to imply that I knew better than Justin, of course, just wondering the reasoning. Makes sense what you explained, thanks.

I do have to agree with this. During the match, I remember thinking, “god damn… Wong, of all people, is suddenly changing the face of what we thought high-level Rog play is.” Fuckin’ crazy. I play Rog now and then, and I’ve never even considered storing up for the Super instead of dumping everything into EX moves. Crazy, I tell ya.

props to both but hats off to daigo for just sticking with ryu all the way through and just being ready for whatever. seems like justin would have picked every character on the board if he could just to beat daigo. i agree that japanese rules are more strict and wouldnt tolerate this whole "oh you beat my XX so let me pick YY but daigo played by the US rules and still won the god damn thing. lets see how justin does at SBO playing by japan rules.

There’s videos of Daigo counter picking in ST in previous evos, its not like he’s against it, I’m sure, Ryu just doesn’t really have any match ups that are totally against him.

Fuck everyone complaining about the cheering and yelling. This isnt chess or golf dumbasses. Fuck you im negging all yall. Apparently none of u have ever been to a tournament.

Yeah, I kept wondering as well. People calling him “Throwtecks.”

The chat had major lols.

Best Evo 2009 moments:

  1. Evo pimp
  2. Triforce saying “LOOK AT DA DAMAGE”
  3. Gootecks throwing his stick

This.

A few Daigo worshipers in here have his cock too far up their mouths seriously. We need to give Justin Wong big props, because well, he showed up completely and utterly. It gets tiresome to keep hearing these same dumbasses showing up everytime and giving Daigo these excuses. Yes, he’s the beast, yes, he’s the champ, however to say “he threw the match to make it interesting”. You’ve got to be kidding me man, thats the biggest load of garbage especially when your in the Championship match.

Wong got criticized alot by people (many of them idiots anyhow) who claimed he would do no better then from his GS match up against Daigo and would get completely destroyed. However this years Evolution 2009 Finals showed and proved, that Wong can hang with Daigo down to the wire. All of the purist peeps forgot that Wong’s Rog actually won more against Daigo’s Ryu then vise versa by 5-4 if you counted, however DE tournies don’t work that way.

Also, I agree with whomever was saying it before, that Justin’s footsies were way better then Daigo’s during this match up, and this was a clear showing why Justin was giving Daigo a run against his Ryu. I’ve said this so many times before and I’ll say this again…mastering footsies is what separates men from boys in the game of Street Fighter. You can be kinda off on alot of other things, however if your footsies is top notch, that alone can take you a long way. Wong was just incredible and spot on with Rog throughout most of his matches in this, however Daigo was super clutch with his pokes, and them Ex’s…simply, Wow.

To end, some of you people need to man up and give the nod to Justin, he was incredible in the finals, and this is a strong testament to his abilities as being US’s most consistent top SF:IV player presently. Imo, Wong shouldn’t of picked Abel at all and just went full blown Apollo Creed the whole complete nine yards in the Championship Round, however I have so much respect to both Wong and Daigo and to be real, I can only find one word to sum up all of their hard work, and dedication in this game to get to that point…Beautiful.

The match before daigo opened with all those focuses Wong started using TAP armor breaks which are unsafe on block/miss. Daigo was trying to test Justins reaction to focus early in the match so he could use the info later for setups. You want to find those kind of things out early in the match when it doesn’t cost you the tournament if you get punished.

Very impressive match played by both, Wong put together a match that a lot of people probably weren’t expecting after his Abel got beasted on. Meanwhile Diago basically solidifed his rep for the new gen that might not of known what he was all about outside of some old vids and the famous parry moment.

Shit was sick, all that needs to be said.

So I watched the stream all three days and here is how this Gootecks myth spawned.

Gootecks is streamed on Day One playing against a pad-playing Fei Long player. He loses one round and someone in the chat who claimed to be at Evo says that after the match was over, Gootecks smashed his stick against the wall because he bet the Fei player $100 that we wouldn’t even take a round from him. The story then sprouted wings, with variants ranging from Gootecks being escorted out of Evo, to him stealing babies and running through the Rio naked.

Its all false and started by some guy in the chat room and spread by ignorant believers and people having fun with it.

I found it amusing the first day, but stopped even glancing at the chat after Day One.

fuck whoever gave me “bad rep”. pussy.

and yes, gootecks did throw his stick after winning a match during the 5 on 5 exhibition

I want to believe this

Gootecks never did such a thing, haters made up that shit. haters said Gootecks lost to the Fei Long player when he didn’t, haters said he cried, haters say a lot of things and when it comes from a chat full of idiots don’t believe it.

Excellent post

no one said daigo never counter picks and i’m talking about the 2009 SF4 evo . i’m saying props to dude for sticking with ryu throughout the whole thing even though there was a lot of counter picking going on or should i say people assuming that what they were doing was counter picking. everyone knows that boxer does very well against ryu or any shoto character, it went down to daigo just having a better game and adjusting quickly.

I guess I’ll respond. On Friday, after Gootecks lost to Valle in pools, there was a rumor going around that Gootecks threw his stick after losing to Valle. People got tired calling BS on this one and started spamming the thread with “Gootecks throwing stick” jokes.

Edit: lols at different versions of how the rumor started. cursedDice probably got it right though if he actually saw the pad-fei match with the chat on. Back to lurking for me.

It was a great match for sure. They both kicked ass.

yea. people made up a story about gootecks throwing his stick, but he actually did throw his stick later during the 5 on 5 after winning a match
