Nobody’s talking about how often Wong confirmed into Super. That was sick, on top of everything else he was doing with Rog.
It was looking very promising for Justin at first, but it’s like I told my friend who was watching with me: you give Daigo enough rounds to figure you out, and you’re done. I hope Justin climbs that mountain someday, but in the meantime, I’m just happy to be alive during Daigo’s reign.
Kinda off-topic, I’m not exactly sure I know what “footsies” means. Is it just the subtle back and forth movement at mid-range we see a lot, or is it that use of lows to bait counter-lows, so you can punish the attempt, etc.? Both? I know it’s a nubbish question, but I’ve never personally felt like SFIV “has no footsies.” The way people are talking about it now, though, has me wondering if I ever knew what footsies really meant to begin with.
Wasn’t sure if that was a girl or a little kid, but annoying as fuck is right.
You pretty much hit it on the head
He did it exactly once. I think he was trying to make it seem like a surprise when he did it, but that had me confused as well. Also, I don’t think he TAP’ed any fireballs or used it as an armor break. Its extremely fast as it only requires a button release, it would seem like it could have been effective when Daigo kept focusing. Maybe there’s a reason I don’t know behind that.
if you noticed, later in the match Daigo would time well placed low forward hadoken/shoryuken the ex uppers/straights so J.Wong probably decided to use it more sparingly.
There are so many 09 Join date noobs in here that don’t know half of the things that were going on in those matches. Justin played so fucking solid its not funny. Nothing is scarier than Justin wielding a character with some good pokes and an anti-air. You guys see Daigo jumping at Justin 3 times in a row and think it was so easy for Justin to just send him back each time…it’s not. When you land a counter-hit anti-air on someone, many would just avoid jumping for a bit. Daigo is just too good for that. He goes right back in, but Justin is too solid to let him in, sends him right back.
Anyone who thinks they know what Justin could’ve done to beat Daigo…yeah fucking right. Whatever Justin wasn’t doing, Daigo had a counter for. I guarantee it. Don’t think Daigo doesn’t have rog experience either. EX punches get countered by Daigo’s low forward spam, obviously buffered into shoryus. (Probably explaining some of the whiffed uppercuts). He didn’t TAP because Daigo would have uppercutted it.
He took it down to the LAST ROUND. Justin can fight Daigo with that Rog. Anyone who disagrees just hates Justin. Its simple as that. Daigo’s not Justin’s friend. He’s not throwing sets to make it interesting for everyone. He wants to win a couple grand, go home and blow it in the arcades.
I gotta give it up for both players. Daigo for holding it together, never changing facial expressions, showing no emotion or frustration up on that stage with 4000 people cheering for him to die, and Justin for almost taking Daigo down. It could’ve gone either way, folks. Justin was right all along and you know it.
It was a great finals, and was worth watching.
I enjoyed the whole event, except for that Dogface “show.”
Exciting finals indeed! I thought Daigo had lost when Justin switched to Balrog and started playing like a different person.
I think he was trying different moves to see if anything could beat it. It’s certainly not difficult to do that on reaction…
It’s one thing to use it sparingly it’s another thing to not use something at all. I do believe he may have done it once but I think they played around 8 rounds. I believe a few more here or there would have kept Daigo more honest on spamming those fireballs or at least made him throw some red ones and not let him sit on super.
GG was all good imo.
I get that. USA players love hype, and that’s all good. BUT, I’m specifically calling out the part when he walked away from his chair and didn’t come back til the actual 2nd round (or 3rd round…can’t remember) started while he was still getting hyped. I think Daigo was even being respectful by waiting for him to get back to his seat after overdoing his crowd-pumping. With 7gs on the line, I’d probably take advantage of that opening if I were Daigo. Justin showed a lack of focus for the match. Got too emotional. It was clear his technical skill and intelligence was sharp, but he let his emotions cloud his focus.
Honestly, I’m not too big of a fan of cocky players, but Justin gets my respect of being able to perform so well in these many tournies, in so many different games, using so many characters, all on this big of stage.
beautiful match. i have a sore throat from cheering and yelling during that match. when wong switched to boxer i had a feeling daigo would have a hard time but i had hope in him that he would pull through! crazy match and super exciting to watch!
Playing against someone like Daigo I’m sure it is. Its not like he’s doing it on wakeup. Daigo plays very unpredictably and catching that shit every time is not easy. If he would have missed it once, free combo.
awesome finals match, wong played super soild, i give him a shit ton of credit no matter what. one hell of a show, and it was good to see how they actually shook hands as in respect for each other.
Just gonna throw this out there before I even bother reading your post.
I started off as an SRK lurker YEARS ago, and I never bothered to post because so many people made comments like what you started with. Only recently, these forums stopped being a giant bitch-fest where everyone stopped calling each other scrubs - at least from what I’ve seen.
We talk all this shit about wanting to spread the popularity of these games, and to grow the community, then we have no-name elitists needlessly talking shit to everyone who doesn’t know the secret handshake.
Anyway, I don’t want to be the one to kill the thread, so I’ll concede the last word on this if you insist on responding. As long as we’re clear that an aged SRK account doesn’t automatically make what you say any more meaningful than what newcomers might bring to the table.
thumbs up
Daigo had a little practice with gooteck’s Balrog before facaing Justin’s.
Cue the regdate epeen waving. Shut the fuck up
Hey im saying people who got into street fighter last february might not have picked up on some of the nuances in the fight and should think twice before giving tips to justin wong. Ill go ahead and say that older accounts might be fucking idiots too. thats all
this imo. A lot of people in chat/irc at the time were going “justin should have …”, “justin needs to start using …”, but I’m certain that justin knows better than to use what seemed like obvious counters, because daigo would be ready to punish the shit out of him.
EDIT: in one instance justin spent 2 meters to FADC out of a deep lp straight and dash back to safe distance, because it’s -3 on block. That’s how much he feared daigo’s fierce shoryu. Stuff like TAP, headbutts and EX rushes were not gonna fly.
