J.Wong vs Daigo

It was a good match. I really would’ve liked to see Justin say Fuck it and pick who he known for using… imo

On a side note off topic: I wish USA tourney rules were more “Japanese” in one form or another… i.e. More team play, single elim, sticking with your character win or lose (not really a rule but sort of an unwritten rule… more for honor than anything else)… I seen more counter picking and character switching than I’ve seen ever in my life for all the games i watched. I know you play to win but I’m a bigger fan of pride and honor… Thats why i was rooting for Wolf and CB in SFHD and Latif for GG…etc

just my 2… good shit though, had lots of fun and OMGAWD west cost got some bad bitches

EDIT: LMAO at everybody even mentioning counter picking Daigo… i mean come on this nigga has 280K bp and like 80something win percentage… oh yeah he hasn’t seen Abel that much… Shiro’s Abel is nothing, just a Grandmaster

Well he said he was working on a counter pick a lot of people started assuming it was Abel after he won some tournaments with him. I think even Justin thought Abel was going to be the counter for Daigo, but it didn’t turn out that way. Amazing final, it was just completely amazing.

Simply picking a counter does not give you a free win, Ed Ma found that out the hard way. Its just another tool. American players just have a more advanced toolbox to work with than the japanese.

Man that was just sick, I mean … I didn’t know Justin was that good. He should have stuck to Boxer from the start.

Oh and LOL at those who said SFIV had no footsies.

unless getting up and waving his arms around is comfortable for him i think.
it is very difficult to criticize wong’s performance at evo.
wong and daigo were truly the top competitors and engaged each other in an extremely close final.
sometimes it is just the other guy’s night.

adjusting and winning is nothing new for daigo. check out his older vids and games where daigo loses badly in some cases but always comes back at the end. justin played well to the end though and get props for that. i bet daigo will go back to japan and play more boxer matchups now.

Unfortunately I missed it just got back from work. Oh well i’m sure there will be a vid a t some point I hope

I honestly thought JWong was ganna take that match.
Also, I don’t understand why Daigo kept jumping in, al of those attempts were getting beat.

EDIT: Yes and I was fucking getting heart attacks and shit.

Anybody see his match against that Chun?
He reacted to a fucking EX fireball with an Ultra! That shit was hot.
That Chun put up a really good fight, props man.

JWong said he was going to whip out boxer on daigo at EVO back at gamestop, it wasn’t all that surprising. His Abel’s up and coming, and though it caught choi off guard at Dev, Daigos played with some sick Abel players.

Justin was trying hard to change his image as a turtle in street fighter 4 only to have his best match up against Daigo with Balrog

I doubt Daigo has ever played a Balrog skilled enough to do that on reaction every time before. That was one of the greatest parts of the match. It made me think back to the gamestop where all of Rufus dive kicks were getting shoryued.

my god some people need to give credit to jwong. daigo threw some matches… plz.

to be honest seeing ed ma place in 3rd place wants me to give akuma a shot.

Daigo vs Justin was an epic match

and lol @ Dan jynxing himself saying he fears cammy the most

Yeah anyone who was actually surprised that Justin picked Boxer to fight Daigo’s Ryu prolly doesn’t listen to Alpha-ism because he mentioned it on there a while ago.

I was rooting for Justin the whole time but too bad he didn’t take it. I felt like whoever took the first round of the very last match would be in the other player’s head a bit so I’d hoped Justin would pull through for that factor but he looked a lot more stressed than usual. I don’t like fighting Boxer or Ryu in this game (or anybody actually :P). But I hate Ryu more, plus I wanted a U.S. victory so if either Sanford or Justin made it to the GF and won I would’ve been happy.

Very exciting match to watch but I don’t like the idea that it might take another year or longer before they rematch (IF they rematch). I guess that’s part of what makes it so crazy to witness though. Two great competitors going all out til’ the very end. That’s what it’s all about son. That’s why I love fighting games. :nunchuck:

It did occur to me though that the matchup was literally 5-5 according to the Grand Finals.
I also learned this weekend that a “Clutch uppercut” is equal to the power level of an Ume-shoryu.

SF4 was pretty hype this year. I’ll give it that.

I think Daigo threw the first set to try and make things interesting…

I have never ever in my life seen a fighting game match quite like that one. It was ridiculously amazing and I commend both players. I admit that I didn’t like some of J.Wong’s antics near some of the EVO matches but this one caused me to sway back into his side. You did well and I’m glad that you represented US in the US well. Wong’s improving quick against Daigo. After he came back from the dead near the beginning of the showdown I didn’t know what to think.

Daigo’s just a maniac though. I don’t know how he pulled that off. He adapted mid-battle and ended up doing some things that he’s probably never done before. Justin took him to his limits. Daigo’s somehow still ahead. Cool, calm, not affected by the comments just being him. Funny thing is that it reminds me a lot of Ryu and Ken fighting say they were real.

After watching this year’s EVO I’m going to stop being a lurker on SRK and post a lot more. I’ve become inspired. Great match and I look forward to the next showdown.

I loved Justin this morning (the match was at about 1:30 EST).
The match blew my mind, and I seriously lost my voice from all the yelling I did - I can’t get much more hyped than that =P JWong will always be my fav! USA!

VIDS! we need VIDS! I need to see that again in full motion!

tch with that much money on the line, thats just not an option.

I haven’t read the thread, but as I was watching the match I really didn’t understand why Justin didn’t ONCE try to EX rush some of those Hadoukens. Daigo only threw red fireballs off of low forwards. I understand that he was saving up for super, but EX rush punch vs. Hadouken is one of 'Rog’s good tools in that matchup. I don’t know why he didn’t try to take advantage of that at least once.

My fight monay!..

::facepalm:::bluu:

get off your fanboy ass and give credit where it’s due.

He only did it like 2 times but what ever he was doing worked. Kids got skills.
