J.Wong vs Daigo

They hate on him because he is the best.

Daigo and Michael Jordan dickriders make me sick.

wtf i meant to put justin, not daigo. i never met daigo at all and i only briefly met justin with TFGM. seemed cool to me.

Even the ones from the Chi? Because he’s the best evar.

Either way, this thread is long overdue for a good closing.

LOL…the guy didnt just win the last two big USA tournaments? Gamestop and EVO2K9. You have to beat the best to be the best.

When the general consensus is favourable to your stance and when there seems to be a lot of supportive claims there is generally a reason for it. I can well damn see why Wong does as he does, I tended to do that a lot when I played at top-end/“pro” level in other games. When revisiting those games and that community now several years later I tend to find myself taking a different route as I have no longer the need for such external validation.

Both are great players it just seems that Daigo is a bit more experienced, centered and grounded in his own skills and personality. Though this can also be easily explained by cultural upbringing and environment as Japans honor and respect-culture is close to one of a kind.

It is also indicative of the common man to rag on those that display prowess by showboating as it is culturally frowned upon in most western societies to stand out by showing of yourself as most people will find that “strenght” to be a source of jealousy.

In the end that discussion will never have a conclusion as the people on either side feels such a need to partake in a side and subcommunity to feel at home that their wish to express themselves will be amplified everytime they can.

What should be taken from the J.Wong vs Daigo matches is simply enjoyment and respect for their skills. Spend time picking a part their gameplay, style and moves to hone ones own. One never stops being a scholar even if one overestimates ones own abilities.

JWong didn’t even really showboat that much.
When you have four thousand compatriots chanting your name and another twenty thousand watching you on a live stream, it’s hard to not to feel the hype.

Simply put, American tournaments are fun. If you look at the faces of the competitors in the Japanese national tournament, it looks like they are all about to go in for a root canal.
SF4 is a game. People need to lighten the fuck up.

The attitude thing is just . Are you stuck in pre-2005 NBA?

Impetuous? Immature? “What was he thinking?” He hyped up the crowd. That’s all it was. He respected all of his opponents over the years. He already has the proper respect of top players and most players in general. You kids are all too serious when it comes to this business. If this was the age of Marvel, you kids would be hating more over the dumbest shit known to man.

Personally, I find it more hilarious that people hate Wong so much for his supposed shenanigans when Marn does more crazy shit in comparison sometimes.

Then why are you posting.

Okay, I missed a couple pages, but I looked back and saw that yours was actually worth responding to.

Yeah, I’m not giving Daigo that much credit, and yes I’m criticizing because he’s a solid player, and considered top, but when you look at other players in his region he’s just solid, in my opinion. The finals were pretty much perfect play from both players.

It could very much be my skew of playing pretty much only ST in tournaments (that count) and how serious I take it is playing in person whenever possible, and on GGPO with known players (I kinda don’t like using this, but it’s the only way to play some people, esp. in ST), doing well in Evo until I face opponents who have been playing longer than I have (I don’t like name dropping, but will if asked), and not much SF4 competitively. I will admit I am new to the scene (4 years is pretty new in reality) but I do make effort to find out what I’ve missed. Uninformed? Possibly. Over exaggerating? Also likely.

edit
Also, I like how a lot of the people talking negatively about my post are probably more unknown than I am, nor were they actually there and are probably just Daigo nuthuggers and people who just joined on SRK for SF4.

I was only partially trolling, but good eye at least. But some of my post was truth.

Do you think you’re cool because you use pink font?

I just want to say that I don’t think Justin took enough risks. You can’t expect to beat Daigo by just poking him.

Daigo took risks. Multiple times he threw a badly timed Hado and was jumped in on. But in the end his risks payed off.

Solid in his own region. Do you pay attention to tournaments he has been in? Here is 10+ years on the scene worth of knowledge for you. Diago has earned his status in his Region of Japan as did (Valle/Choi/Justin…etc.) did over here… in numerous games. If you are speaking of SF4, then u cant say solid but the BEST until someone takes him down when it counts.

DO NOT let casual play fool you (especially this)

DO NOT let his recorded round robin matches fool you

DO NOT let his weekly mini tournaments fool you

DO NOT let little 10-20 buck or free buffet on me money matches in a hotel room fool you

He has won the “world” championship and in the classic Apex point style fashion he is THE FUCCIN BEST. Americas BEST Justin took second. Regardless at the end of the day these guys until someone (hopefully within this community) comes an snatches that shine away. We may have years to see who that may be, but until then Diago/Justin stand at the very top (in the SF 4 standings).

4 years in this community an tournament scene is still fresh eyes. You still have to understand the “when it counts time” from the “oh well ill catch em at the next tourny…” trust me it will hit you and I hope you participate an pay attention to the more higher scaled tournaments (ie final round, midwest, sbo…etc.) an watch what the outcome is. Not such n such mini down the street after work tournament. Just watch an you will see and get a true understanding.

Now that Daigo has a little extra money he should buy a PS3, and a couple of sticks for him and Dan. Work on console character matchups, and play tons of HD Remix and maybe even 3rd Strike if it’s the same format.

LOL, I was actually thinking the same thing. He earned about 8K winning the SF4 tourney and money matches, so go get a console, fight stick, and a copy of SF4. You know just about everybody here is going to be secretly working on a console character in case they run into you next year.

did Daigo play any third strike at evo?

I didn’t read through all of this, but I’m going to assume there are some people being moronic on here. And doing some hatin’.

As far as I could see, Wong wasn’t being disrespectful. He wasn’t getting in Daigo’s face, wasn’t saying shit to him, or flipping him off or anything. He was getting the US crowd hyped, that’s his way and there’s nothing wrong with that. Personally I find he looks a little uncoordinated when he does the arm raising thing, get up quick thing he does.

And on the final match, it’s been said but the game was super intense. Mad respect for Wong bringing the Boxer skills. The poking game was something I had not seen before on that level.

no, he wasnt in the team tournament and i doubt he played any mm’s or casuals in 3s.
We asked Issei to ask him if he plays 3s anymore and he said no. but he did simulate a a chun li super full parry when we were eating dinner. that shit had us rolling

Real talk if my ps2 didnt break in my luggage i would have challenged him to a money match in our 1676 room. ken mirrors. i woulda worked that dude lol

exactly. the gameplay, the showmanship, the intensity is all that matters. there was some serious gameplay in those finals. the hate is unjustified and not necessary. but i guess everyone is entitled to ther own opinion

Thats fucking awesome, Im gonna head out there with you next year for sure.

I’ve not liked Justin for a long time but I guess that could just be my pet peave about showboating.

I always respected his gameplay, but I guess I’m willing to admit he might not be a douchebag either, after all I’ve never even met him.
