J.Wong vs Daigo

I’ll say it was the second most entertaing Grand Finals ever. Nothing can compete with Choi vs. Valle, 1996 at B3. But it was probably the most entertaining SF4 match ever.

The match had everything, footsies, mindgames, shocking finishes, and close rounds. Definitely would have loved to be there. SFIV is the hypest game ever, and it’s not dying down. I never really wanted to go to Evo but after watching the stream live, I’m going to put aside money and I’m going to be there to represent my Guile at SFIV.

Also anyone noticed how Jwong has Boxer, an American character vs. Daigo Japanese Ryu. That’s so epic. Maybe next year we’ll get a Guile in top 8, he’s being developed so well in Japan and the USA. Definitely need to get some Guile technology repped at Evo.

I’m not a fan of JWong, but he get’s my full respect. The man is so smart, and so passionate about Street Fighter 4. And it’s scary to think he’ll only get better at this point. Let’s go USA for SBO.

Patriotism? Are you being fucking serious? Do you even know what the hell that means?

I’m all for getting hype and supporting your country, but I would hardly call it patriotism. The soldiers who go and fight a war that has nothing to do with them, but smile through it and give it their all… those are patriots.
A group of people who chant support for their favourite player in a videogame just cuz he’s from the same country is NEVER, in this or any other realm of imagination, patriotism. Don’t be a fool and use such words if you don’t know what they mean dumbass.

Kids these days don’t seem to be getting an education.

Uh, settle down Beavis.

The definition of patriotism is “loving one’s country”. It is a form of patriotism to cheer for competitors from your own country to win in international competitions. Patriotism can be something as simple as waving a flag.

No one is saying “video game fans are true patriots, and have the same amount of love and sacrifice for their country as World War II soldiers” here.

Candiasis has a good point though… it’s ridiculous how people are getting embarrassed by a USA chant, or other types of cheering for the American players. Some people got it into their head that cheering for one side is equivalent to talking shit and spewing racist insults about the other side. I don’t know where this idea came from and it makes no sense.

i really don’t think ruminating on the nature of patriotism is srks forte.
Let’s stick to talking about how one squint eyed jap fake punched another squint eyed american more often in a video game shall we?

Kill your self now retard, honestly.

Fuck that I’m blatantly pro American. That’s why I play Guile. And that’s also why I support Justin Wong anytime he’s playing a Jap. Justin Wong is clearly American, and he loves his country. He loves representing the USA against Japan. I’m sure Daigo loves representing Japan against American, and support it’s players. I’m going to support any American against the Japs. And yeah, I respect the skill level of the Japs, but I love our American players going toe to toe with them. Daigo knows at this point that

You don’t fuck with the USA!

USA got pwned son, and Guile is shit tier.

Man, I’m usually weary of USA patriotism (it has more than one definition, people) because it can be so hateful, blind, and disrespectful (i.e. our politics) and but I’d be lying if this post didn’t make me proud, goddamn. So much I have to make a long post about it.

It’s so easy for me to cheer for the Americans. They’re at quite a disadvantage against Japan’s player concentration (in location) and arcade vitality. Coming against these odds, I LOVE cheering for the underdog. So many seem to doubt our skills compared to the Japanese and it just makes me to want them to perform even better every time. Justin got close, props to him. People love to make excuses for Justin’s performance, it’s nonsense. Although he didn’t win, he did great and it was damn enjoyable. The End. That being said, I do think Daigo has obviously proved himself to be the better player.

Growing up in the poorer, urban areas I really connected with the in-your-face EC style. I grew up with that shit, always throwing taunts and insults at my friends at pick-up games and whatnot. The game is the game, and I have all the respect and care for them afterwards. In a strange way, it’s how we show our affection. Afterwards we shake hands and it’s cool, it all ends. I believe it’s the same with the EC and I think most haters don’t realize that. They’re so damn serious about it it’s juvenile. They’re having fun, cool it guys!

I’m completely new to the scene: I’ve learned so much about the American SF community this past week. I never really knew about it before. I love how they’re such a tight group of people from all over the country and from different walks of life and still continue to hold so much respect and care for one another.

I love Gootecks and his life philosophy. I love Sabin. I love Mike Ross. I love JWong. I love Ed Ma. I love iloveu Joe. I love Valle. I love Sanford. I love anyone who I didn’t mention and I’m so proud of all of them! Are they weaker than their Japanese counterparts? Maybe, but more importantly who cares!?! I’m proud of how damn good they are all and the entertainment they provide for us all, because that’s what it’s truly about. I hope they kick ass and take names at SBO, even if they don’t, I still have all the respect in the world for all SF players. Daigo and co. are damn good, no doubt, and I hope even they play their hearts out. Let’s GO! SBO!

So many on this forum spend so much time hating. Lord knows what we need is more hate. It’s just a game and they’re all tight people, no need to continue acting like that guys. Stop being self-righteous critics, you!

Say what you will about my post but this first time exposure to EVO and the real fighting game scene has inspired me so much! It had to come out somewhere.

Don’t be an idiot, he is clearly right. You can support USA players and the country of the US, and it is called nationalism. You can fight in a war and defend your country, and you are a patriot exhibiting patriotism. I can see why you can’t see the difference between the two since

A. you told someone to kill themselves and
B. called them a retard.

Ironically this is another example of political correctness gone mad, as per my original comment.

Daigo defeated justin at evo 04, sf nationals, and evo 09…it’s prety much safe to say daigo is better than justin. This site is filled with drama queens quick to throw out labels and insults. Daigo is better, it is what it is.

I didnt say Daigo didnt win you stupid fuck
I said he knows that Daigo knows Justin isnt to be underestimated, and Daigo fanboys should accept that Daigo is beatable

Guys guys you’re tearing this forum apart! ;-;

It’s SRK.com, a fighting game community. What’s really happening is that people are playing footsies with logic, throwing facts from across the screen, focus parrying insults and then unleashing a Level 2 counter retort comboed into an insightful argument, then crossing up with a statement that then links into a Fierce Uppercut of background knowledge and respect for both players.

You guys should just learn to accept each other’s opinon LOL. If it isnt bad enough, let me say that Daigo is boring. He can be the ‘best’ in SFIV tournament, but c’mon Ryu, Ryu and more Ryu ? You know why they make SFIV with so many other characters ?

Ryu is Daigo trademark character, and he is a master of that character. No one can play Ryu as good as Daigo. And most of the characters get good representation. It’s amazing how you say Ryu is overused, when you clearly see more Balrog all over the place than everyone else. Go to any tournament in the USA with 30 people, I gurantee you’re going to see about 10-15 Balrogs easy. There are only a few good Ryu players, and that’s Choi and Alex Valle in the USA. There are only a few Ryu grandmasters in Japan. Ryu is okay, because not everyone is good enough to use him.

Probably no one use Ryu better than him but there are certainly more than a handful of decent Ryu. Afterall, when you are proficient at some character, it boils down to mindgames and perfect execution.

It’s just my opnion that i wished he could pick someone else for a change to make it more interesting.

I don’t see anything wrong with having a main and sticking to it, I do the exact same. The reason there’s all these characters isn’t solely to switch it up all the time, it’s to give you more matchup’s and enhance the pool selection from people who decide to main someone.

I guess it’s just personal preference, some people get attached to a certain character or/and want to try and master it (although sometimes knowing at least a little of how to play other characters can help with this), and some like to play a bunch of different characters.

So now its wrong to chant USA at a INTERNATIONAL tournament? But its ok for fanboys to chant “K” or whatever when that Japanese player was using Yun in past EVO tournaments? It clear who has dirty knees around here and who doesn’t…

Let me tell you something about Daigo and his Ryu.

Ryu is much more than just his signature character. More than just his favorite character to play or master.

Those two have experienced so much together. They have both conquered together and been defeated together many times. The legend is Daigo, and the legend also is Ryu. Why? Because they are both one.

They are much more, Ryu is more than a character and Daigo is much more than a player. They have made a professional and spiritual connection together that has bounded them eternally and almost unconditionally (3S).

To be a good player you must be good with your character.
To be a great player you must master your character.
To be a legend, you must become your character.

His best ally and his greatest challenger.

It’s not about finding your character, it’s about finding yourself.
