AH I SEE! So this is why SRK is known for having up tight assholes roaming their forums!
Hey Verse! Been a long time…are you playin SFIV now? Awesome!
Glad to see you are still around.
I thought it was a great match and that Justin played amazing. They both deserved to win.
How bout…they’re both good players who’ll school your ass…
omg that match was so great.
but for a second i thought jwong had it but the beast was unleash but i dont think diago played his best.
word. jwong is the king of the US. i mean, how many trophies did he take home from Devastation?
all this talk about Japan vs US is pointless though, as it was basically US vs 2 Japanese. comparing JWong to Daigo is pretty stale as well, considering that it’s not unusual for Daigo (or any other player) to get PO’d from Japanese tournaments early on.
you wanna compare skill level? wait for SBO.
And watch Japan take it again.
It was a great match. Didn’t have a chance to watch it until today…I can only imagine how HYPE the room must have been. I’ll frown on it now but if I was there in person I would have been chanting “U.S.A!” along with every other asshole in the room
SBO will be a good test of where daigo and Justin fall in respect to the top tier Japanese players, but I’d say evo was an excellent gauge of their abilites and skill relative to eachother. Let’s face it, fans of the Justin camp will never be satisfied and will always have an out explaining why Justin lost (the favorite this time? He chose Abel instead of going strait to rog). If it’s not that, then it’s because the character he used was a natural counter to ryu. If anything is getting stale, it’s the scapegoats for Justin loses.
This match was so hype. I felt the adrenaline pumping through my monitor!!!
But man, if I was any of them I would have back flipped off of my chair. Congrats for both of them though. I’m really looking to go next year. Even though there’s a lot of bad blood in this thread, it’s all for fun in the end (At least for those of us too broke to be down there).
Is Justin’s on Daigos level? I don’t think so. Everyone is forgetting that they played 3 total sets, not just 2. Wong’s Abel was nothing and he knew before they even fought that his Rufus was not going to cut it. The thing that messed Daigo up was the random Boxer. Daigo never saw that coming and had no clue that Justin had such a fierce Rog in his pocket. But, he adapted to it in a mere 3 rounds. Is Justin good? Totally. I have much respect for him and he is a great player. I love that fact that he plays his style and adjust the character he picks to match his play level, rather then changing his style to highlight the characters strengths. That is what makes him unique and a threat. But, lets face it, theres only one Boxer in the game and Daigo now knows how to beat him. They aren’t going to keep adding in new boxers just to keep Daigo on his toes.
This is a good point and I think illustrates a big part of the counter characters vs sticking it out with one argument. They both had to change and adapt to each other’s gameplay, but Wong did so at the character select screen, while Daigo did so in-fight. No one can say for certain, but towards the end it did sort of look like Daigo got Justin’s number, so if they had continued playing maybe Daigo would have won with more consistency? Justin has to play Balrog at SBO, so I guess we can see the continuation of that fight (maybe?) then.
Pretty sure he forgot there was a final round. Maybe you are bad at reading body language, I guess
SBO has a one character rule right?
^Yep. You register with that character beforehand and that’s who you’re going to play through the whole thing.
I can respect SBO for that, though I can also appreciate the challenge of Evo and having to be prepared for anything that comes with it. It really exposes the strength of talented individuals like Daigo. I honestly feel a professional with a full roster at his disposal should have nothing to fear. Props to SBO for its ruleset, but I love Evo for its own.
I pooped my pants after seeing that match.
Maybe the one character rule will be what raises justin’s game to the next level. I mean, US rules let you simply change to counter instead of learning and adapting.
i think the japanese are so strong because the one character rule.
