J.Wong vs Daigo

This is the wall you run into when dealing with nerds. It’s the cool thing to do nowadays. Everyone wants to be what they aren’t.

Did I just read someone comparing Magic the Gathering with a fucking video game? PMSL

From the interview with Daigo shortly thereafter, it sounds like it’s more that Japan’s Balrogs don’t seem to be quite as strong. He made a comment about having played the best ones in Japan or something like that, from what I remember. I don’t think it’s him neglecting the match up so much as not having the appropriate competition with it.

And for the record, I agree that Wong’s antics were pretty childish. Nothing wrong with celebrating (And Wong certainly deserves praise for that ass whooping in the first set!), and nothing wrong with the crowd cheering on their favorite (I imagine Daigo must be pretty used to seeing that in the US by now, anyway), but standing on your chair and running off between rounds isn’t what I’d call mature or good sportsmanship. And yes I agree that it’s good manners for the winner to shake his opponent’s hand after a match. Sanford was rocking the shit there but I’m not sure why he didn’t give Dan that consideration.

If you watch the interview on Gootecks.com Daigo even said he knew the match up and played many great Balrog players before. He even stated that Wong was on the same level as the best japanese players. Wong just outplayed Daigo with Balrog. Wong only lost because he choose to play Abel in many matches and didn’t deliver(missed ultra setups and other such stuff).

hmm i think sagat would have been a good choice against daigo’s ryu.

I missed the fight since I needed to get some sleep for work. But it was pretty awesome when I got to see it. peace.

I’m not sure why you had to pm me that, but okay. I think I missed one interview, because he did change it up eventually.

And what the hell, Biolink? Japan vs USA “beef?” It’s not beef, dude. It’s wanting to be the best, because we really haven’t been. Fighting games are competitive; otherwise, there’s no point. How is it really any different from WC/EC rivalry? They talk shit at each other, but they session and bullshit around when they get together. You’re making it out to be way more adversarial than it really is.

please stop hatin on justin, all the haters are a bunch of emotional fat freaks, please this is not lord of the ring, justin celebrated because he thought he had a very good chance and he did he won the first set! He had daigo completely stunned, then daigo recover and yall know what happens.
“hate brings love” thehater619

Wong lost because Daigo outplayed Wong’s rog in the final set 3-2. Bringing up the rog 5-4 record doesn’t make any sense at all.

You know, im just gonna throw this out there. Don’t get me wrong, Daigo’s awesome but you people with Daigo’s penis in your mouth and a lot of you 09’ers have been targeted for bombardment. If I really have to explain why, you truly deserve the red.

Hey guys,

When Justin left his seat to hype the crowd after winning round 2 in that set, it looked like he thought he had won the entire game already. Like he didn’t realise there was still round 3. Agree/disagree?

Yeah, a professional tournament veteran like Justin wouldn’t understand stupid shit like tournament brackets. I could totally see why you would think something like this could possibly be the case. He couldn’t possibly be hyping up the crowd because he dug himself out of losers bracket and reset the match, earning a real chance to beat Daigo in the SF4 Grand Finals. That couldn’t be why he was so hype.

Please don’t ever post again.

I wish i could rep this guy

SF4 Grand finals must of been the first time you ever watched a Daigo vs Justin match.:coffee:

Too many japanese D’riders to avoid this man. at 09’ers telling people how things are suppose to be. gs justin and sanford. Usa represent to the fullest!

I haven’t been able to watch the matches yet, but I’m just wondering the way justin played a poking boxer… is every boxer player gonna implement this (i.e. is it a viable style) or was it more of a gimmick that was only successful because it was never seen before?

After daigo started implemented FA into his game to counter pokes was justin’s strat done and dusted?

I played Magic too…been to over ten pro tours and the tournament scene is way better for that game. The payout goes way deeper and is much higher. If you work at it, you can actually make a living. I did.

The respect is definitely there. People cheer when the match is actually over, but quietly respect the game as it is taking place.

Also, The Japanese dominate that game too. It’s really all about beating the Japanese now. They have a tendency to perfect whatever endeavor they have. It just proves that the Japanese are on a different level in any game. Not just Street Fighter.

just read somewhere that daigo has a family … wife and kids. that true? if so, either he’s a sh*tty father (kidding) or seriously more talented then anyone else younger out there.

Where he finds the time, i have no idea. But major props for him, just on that.

you know what’s almost as bad as people saying daigo is better (he is because he won), are the jwong cockgobblers who say that justin’s better because he could have won if we take out the Abel match.

Word?

With that logic, we can say daigo would have perfected Justin every round f daigo could have blocked a few more times.

Nobody’s saying Justin sucks, because to do so would be utterly idiotic. I just don’t see where all this “justin’s on the same level as daigo” talk is coming from. Making it close all of a sudden makes you even? Making it close means you’re guaranteed to win the next time you face off? Making it close means you’re equally as good? WTF kind of reasoning is that? Daigo won because he is more skilled and talented.

Think about it, everyone knows daigo’s going to pick ryu, it’s not even a question. Boring-ass ryu that everyone plays and have had since the release of the game to get used to. To add to that, there are so many videos of daigo as ryu that one could theoretically do rsearch on how he plays and what his weaknesses are. On top of that, daigo played money matches while Justin watched, giving him more time to study daigo. To summarize: we’ve all seen ryu. We’ve all seen daigo. We’ve all seen daigo play as ryu. Jutin had the opporunity to watch daigo play before the finals, in money matches.

Now Justin picks balrog. We’ve all seen Justin play. We’ve all seen our fair share of balrogs. But has anyone seen Justin play extensive balrog? No. Did Justin use balrog in front of daigo prior to the matches? No. Was justin’s approach to balrog unseen and new compared to what we’re used to? Yes.

Now with that being said, on one side we have a guy who uses the same character we are All familiar with (including his competition) versus another guy who we have rarely, if at all, use a character he’s not usually associated with.

Common sense would dictate that the guy who uses the same character would be at a disadvantage since his playstyle is so well known, along with his techniques and strategies versus other characters. Couple that with his well-documented fights, and one would assume that guy using a new charcter would have the upper hand…but he didn’t.

Daigo, using his usual character, beat Justin, who unveiled a new character. What does that say about daigo and what does that say about Justin? I’ll tell you what it says…

Daigo has mastered his character and is a master of the game. We’ve all seen him play and we’ve all seen his moves, but still, no one stateside can stop him.

Justin has tried three characters and lost with every one of them, despite knowing who daigo will choose and what he can do with ryu.

Justin on daigo’s level? Seriously?

theRetroKid just said everything I needed to say. Thanks bud, you saved me a shit ton of typing.

Justin lost to the better player plain and simple
