All I have to go on like most other people here is observation and speculation. And from what I’ve observed, JWong “adapts” by counter-picking. Not that there’s anything wrong with that of course, but it’s definitely not the same thing. Had I seen him change up his style with Rufus or Abel in any of those matches I might think differently.
What really needs to be understood is that, whether some people like it or not, Justin Wong is awesome player.
With this in mind, it’s up to the player to understand just how many people get influenced from him. His actions in and out of game (when it comes to tournaments) is HIS image, his remains. Both good acts and bad acts. A person of high recognition that realises his influence has to work his best to be a good example to everyone else that admire him or plan to follow his path.
Off-topic but, I can’t understand how the join date is any relevant with the matters that are being discussed in this level. Is it a prerequisite for anyone before he throws in a coin to play or press start to play Street Fighter to sign up in the forums? How shallow it sounds to measure a person’s experience outside of a forum, using his joining date…
I agree with your last statement – I’m a bit new here and I enjoy the community for the most part – but there are some long time vets here who are just complete dbags
anyways, i’d give my opinion of the match but some people may not find it valid because of my join date
Hate to get back in this thread, but to agree with you, Kuroda did taunt Justin. Kuroda showed mad superiority in the game, and simply had his way with Justin, but its in the game taunting and more importantly with the character.
Its a bit different then standing on a chair in between matches, before the winner is even decided and trying to “HYPE” the crowd or goad your opponent.
IMHO, it was strictly an intimidation tactic on top of a hype moment. Imagine if you were visiting a strange country to play, and you saw 3,000+ hyped up guys shouting at you at your opponents insistence? All I’m saying is, at that level of play, seeing what was at stake, the EVO Finals in SF4, I think it would be more tactful to play it cool until the end, maintain composure and get the match done, thats what champions do. After you win and feel as if you want to be an asshole and shove it down your opponents throat, feel free, but to do that shit and still lose…thats an epic fail.
uh, its kind of weird to initiate the handshake for some people if you’re the winner, especially in sanfords situation…the loser also could of initiated the handshake from what i’ve seen…also the camera didn’t really show what sanford and dan did after the match too. i don’t think sanford means any harm, he looks really emotional…but i dont know sanford personally and you never know
WTF is this? The WWE where Justin is the heel and Daigo is the face? ***** please!
Its very clear that this is some players first tournament season because what went on at EVO is nothing new in the scene. Are you people really getting mad that the crowd was chanting USA? Haha are you serious? Have any you been to past EVO where the had USA vs Japan matches and the crowd chanted USA? I guess if you guys are saying all this BS.
I swear its always the same thing when its an American vs a Japanese player around here. You guys suck off Japan so much you want to like them in every way possible in tournament, including sitting there looking stone cold like Daigo does…
man… this was my very first evo and it lived up to the hype that i was told was there… that match was so intense and you could just feel it in the atmosphere there. see you all next year
I would imagine because of financial woes… though Mago didn’t come to Stunfest in France even though he was meant to be there cause of Visa issues. That could have been an issue for him as well.
I would have loved to see Momochi and Mago in Evo but Im sure it was because of visa and money issues. Anyways I thought all of the Finals matches were great but the Grand Final was just out of this world. If Jwong would of concentraded on the match instead of hyping the people it could have been a different story. Im glad Daigo won, I just hate Jwong for being cocky.
Nah, like the other man said, it would be nicer if the winner took initaive. But like I said, it seemed like he stood up, like even before it said K.O, he was in his spiral drill (w/e you call that, the thing that goes up lmao) and he stood and just walked away.
I guess though, I see where you’re coming from, and I know he’s a cool guy. Just it felt like ‘‘Kthxbai’’
But yea I Think hes just that type of guy. Vs wong as well, he already stood up during the match knowing that would kill him and he shook his hand, instead of waiting like the rest : P
And about the USA thing, I didn’t really realize it like that. And just thought, half is for daigo, like some, and some for justin.
i dont know about justin being on daigo’s level. the only character justin did some real damage with is boxer, and you better belive daigo is gonna learn the shit outta that matchup now.
I think justin would have had a better shot if he stuck to rufus and learned the ryu matchup inside out. I’m usually of the 1 main school of thought.
obviously both players are absolute beasts.
Edit: Why are so many people hating on gootecks? he seems like a nice guy to me. That really sucks that someone lifted his daigo-signed TE stick
I don’t see how Justin had Daigo’s number. If you rewatch the matches, Daigo missed multiple key combos (such as f+HP into fierce dp). So, instead of doing that extra 10% damage from the dp in the combo, he instead ends up taking almost 50% in return. He probably missed those combos because of the crowd because those aren’t combos you see Daigo miss in other matches.
If everyone hit their combos, the final results would have been heavily in Daigo’s favor.
