Who are you to say that, a 09’er? lol
Wong is on Daigo’s level now. We’ve seen the matches that prove it and as hungry as Justin is I don’t think it will be long till he gets above Daigo’s level. SFIV is so HYPE.
Yup, and Wong lost badly when he came back after that. :razzy:
It definitely shows that Wong still has a lot to learn regarding his mental discipline.
I think they were even in skill all through those matches, but Daigo had better mental fitness at that point since Wong’s gameplay faltered on the final match of the 2nd set.
I noticed Wong didnt use Ex Dash Punches to get through Daigo’s FBs too much. Was it because he loves saving the Super, or did he want Daigo to get comfortable with throwing FBs that close so he could use Ex Dash Punches in clutch moments?
I would think that there were openings during some moments of it. Though I think Justin was just playing safe.
Some (not all) of the posts in this thread are absolutely stupid.
25 pages… astounding.
I agree he is no one to say that, but seriously man, that “09’er” term is old and ridiculous… saying it now makes you sound like a fool.
I’m not so sure he can adapt as quickly as Daigo can. I’m not sure he can consistently take out the best that Japan has to offer either, if only for the fact that Daigo plays against them regularly.
If narrowly losing to Daigo means that you’re on his level, then Japan has an army of Daigos gearing up for SBO.
I thought I had a pretty good observation
You mean how Justin absolutely stomped Daigo for a few rounds? There was more than one round where Balrog was standing at the end with more than 75% health left. Daigo maybe did that once.
Yea, in the end a win is a win and Justin lost, but you said Wong would never touch him, despite the amount of rounds he destroyed Daigo
Yeah, there’s quite a thuggish “us vs them” mentality behind the fighting game community in America. Like blatant name calling is somehow seen as a legitimate way to pass a point and win an argument. 09er, dickrider (pretty much calling someone gay as an insult which implies being gay is negative), etc. The Japanese Rog thread has a ton of racism/nationalism in it too, a lot of it ironically calling Japanese Rog players racist. Being an exclusive club worked out fine when fighting games was niche, but now there’s more people looking in from the outside and the messed up things become apparent.
You’ve never played Justin then.
hahahahaha
This is the stupidest shit I’ve ever heard - nobody is going to risk a tourney win by ‘giving a few rounds away’. Period.
daigo will never touch you. not even platonically. i’m sure you think if you try hard enough, someday you might be able to suck his pee pee, but there’s a long line.
Amazing matches.
Well, I disagree and kinda agree on the east coast disrespect thing. For example Sanford, didn’t even LOOK at Dan when he beat him with cammy. He didn’t even wait, his combo was still going, and he already stood up and just walked away. No handshake, no shown respect.
Daigo is concentrating, prob slightly pissed of loosing so much, and SOO many people screamed USA, go justin. I haven’t heard one ‘‘GO DAIGO GO DAIGO’’ and then justin stands up after just one win, runs and screams, then comes back before the 1 ends. And so many people screaming behind him, go usa. It must have been terrible for the man lol
I mean, that’s cool for entertainment though, but kinda sad for Daigo. He was like staring at the screen lol.
And Idk, I can see why everyone is saying Daigo let him win, although I doubt that’s the case. But I can see why. Daigo got hit by sooo many basic Balrog moves… He got hit by the sweep while just standing like 3 times in a row, like 5 times. And doing alot of stuff, almost like he didn’t know the matchup (Which I think which is what’s going on here. He didn’t really counter any of balrogs attacks right, and got hit a lot by normals)
but still good play from both.
With all due respect, I think you’re projecting your opinion of what’s enjoyable into this a bit too much. First of all, I wasn’t only referring to SF4 when mentioning footsies, but all manner of fighting games.
In reality footsies are a necessary part of the game, the end goal (winning) is what’s fun but if you look at what players (and crowds) revel in is getting in and doing damage via combos. It’s not because they’re all scrubs, but because it is a delicious reward for taking advantage of a weakened defense.
Getting in pokes and proper spacing a means to an end, and the product is getting to control a match WHICH IS FUN. Nevertheless, it is usually the area most players (including me) have a hard time mastering because it’s less about execution and more about mindgames and patience, things that can falter mid-match under pressure. Wong and Daigo are exemplary not because of their ability to do combos (because I’m sure pretty much every top qualifier in Evo could replicate any combo in the game) but because they have the patience and foresight to space and poke properly, on a very advanced level.
I’m pretty sure they understand that’s just how we roll. Daigo gets a lot of respect and love here (in the states)and he knows that.
I firmly believed Justin Wong was going to win. Daigo was just beginning to catch up, but Justin still had a whole round to win. Justin was pretty much dominating the first couple of rounds, so I was sure Justin would adapt to Daigo’s counter tactics.
But then Daigo is announced the winner and I get confused. Then I remembered…
“Oh. Abel match.”
Wow, I never realized so many people hated the in-your-face EC style! I love it, builds great hype. There’s absolutely no disrespect in it whatsoever; in the end of the day, it’s all good. I get the impression most people misunderstand the EC style, maybe I’m wrong. (Not shaking hands is a little rude, though. Maybe he was just caught in the moment.)
But to say that everyone watching, and Wong himself, didn’t have anything but the utmost respect for Daigo is silly. I don’t think Wong had any regrets about his behavior and he really shouldn’t. They both put on a GREAT show. Coming back from the losers bracket was just ridiculous.
If anything, if Daigo did throw out the rounds intentionally, I’d say that’d be one of the worst displays of sportsmanship I’d ever witnessed. That being said, I don’t think he did.
Love you all.
