most of you new school sf heads on this srk forum who talk too much have no right to critique jwong’s playing @ evo. give the guy a break, hes just getting amped and thats how they roll in the american scene. wait, maybe some new school guys here don’t know the scene… xbox live??
whatever, i’m tired of this thread. jwong put on very well, someday you will beat daigo jwong. you will!
daigo is a beast, i could only beat him in my dreams cause his gameplay is always mad solid.
Framed against the entire community, there was nothing incongruent with Justin’s excited behavior during his match against Daigo. The lack of professional etiquette is ingrained in the fighting community as a whole. This behavior was common over the weekend, I watched all the feeds live. At one point I saw someone needlessly push/brush someone as he walked away after the fight.
Fault lies in part to the announcers (except Seth Killian) who all made racist, sexist, and homophobic comments repeatedly. And let me add that this was no different from Devastation, where I nearly turned off the feed.
Because such behavior is rewarded and echoed by community leaders it reflects badly on the rest of us. Justin Wong did nothing to prevent this, if anything, he reinforced a stereotype - even if he is a byproduct of his surroundings.
I remember when I played MtG (Magic: the Gathering) and frequented national and regional tournaments (1998-2002). That community is equally as passionate but maintains respect as one its guiding tenets. I have yet to see that here, but I’m very new - I know there’s a lot more good to see and I’m looking forward to it.
seems like no matter what justin does, he always gonna have his haters. I think like anything else compeitive, people need that one person that they love to hate.
Haha you people are hilarious. This reminds me of the ECC where Justin played Ricky-O in the finals and won and people were complaining about every little thing and making shit up (ex. throwing ice at Ricky)
Anyway if you think JWong’s “antics” were too much its clear never been to a Marvel tournament, especially one on th EC. Because if you did you will know that this is the norm for most. Furthermore, I guess Justin was having a surreal moment when playing Daigo. He was on a adrenaline high and was wilding out. Though me personally I would have waited until I won the game and not just a round to get up like that, he didn’t anything new that he wouldn’t do in Chinatown Fair…
Oh and anybody thinks that Daigo was sandbagging can go suck a fuck. Because I know you would not be saying that if it was Choi or Valle…
lol check out Daigo’s hand in that pic - too fast for flash photos
Yeah… There was some dudes with some seriously bad sportsmanship on that feed
Like one guy who won was reaching out to shake his opponent’s hand and the guy just sort of pushed him outta the way (maybe same fight you are talkin about)
Again, Wong is getting the crowd excited which in turn pumped him up. He was caught up in the moment. But I guess it is wrong to show emotion huh
After watching the vid, I would have really liked to see Edma’s Akuma vs. Daigo’s ryu. Edma can abuse the FA almost as much as Ryu, but very little chance of super/ultra connecting.
My favorite match of EVO2K9 simply because of the following:
Justin Wong getting up from his chair and celebrating with his supporters in the back, NOT EVEN WINNING THE FINALS, while Daigo is just sitting there calmly looking at the TV screen awaiting the next and final set.
To have Daigo own him like that in every regard even after that disrespect and just simply get up and shake his hand and smile was worth it.
Just my spill about the hole thing was that it was a great match. Even before that I can’t help but think if things would have been different if Ed wouldn’t have chosen Geif or even in the grand finals if Wong wouldn’t have chosen Abel.
I am surprised that Wong didn’t win mainly because if you keep losing to someone in theory you will eventually beat them. Kind of like in the NFL when a team beats someone 2 times in the regular season then that same losing team turns around and whips that teams ass in the playoffs.
But im glad things turned out the way they did because that was the match everyone wanted to see. The two elites going at it. Both played well, and both have inspired others to get on they’re level that seems to be untouchable at times.
Looked like Daigo was giving the fist couple matches to Justin by seeing if he could finish the match faster by playing unconventionally since he had the advantage in rounds.
I don’t agree with what Justin does, but Justin is Justin. I am not expecting him to act any differently. He is going to do it no matter what you guys say so don’t act shocked.
Kuroda “turtles” on character select, recklessly taunts straight from the start of the round, taunts four times in total in the first round and stalls for time in the second. He doesn’t kick for meter but to stall. With lower health.
The crowd laughs at Kuroda’s antics because they’re completely needless. He’s showboating if not being malicious.
