It is a bit much but… I’m pretty sure most of the people chanting USA wanted daigo’s signature.
Agree 100% with the USA chant. What happened to playing SF for the camaraderie of it all? The point is to bring people together no matter what ethnicity or nationality fun. There are very skilled players no matter which side of the pond you are on, and we can all learn from each other.
Especially that girl who kept on yelling" I LOVE YOU DAIGO!"
Some Americans were chanting for Japan aswell. The entire crowd clapped for both players and scream at the top of their lungs for them.
I Am teh most amazing streeet fighata playa evaaaaaaaar!!!
get the fuck outta here with that dumbshit amabdul faggot.
I am a below-average mediocre player at best and never bragged about how “amazing” I am (although I truly am amazing). If I ever did talk shit saying that I’m so good this-and-that, then that’s just exactly what I was doing…talking shit.
And on top of that, I’d like to see you beat arturo, sanford, justin wong, ed ma, nestor, and any other fuckin top tier player they put me against at evo. GOOD SHOWING FROM ME…YAY!
If people wanna think I suck for losing to those guys than be my guest and talk shit. Imma just sit here, drink this cold ass pepsi, and watch mike watson undress
what happened to the whole beauty of it being “you vs the other guy”,
2 guys versus, alone.
not 2 countries.
True talk though; is anyone really in the position to bash all the guys who went to EVO? They all went there and just did there thing so no matter what they deserve props.
Dont know why he even picked Abel should’ve had Boxer in his head for jump street . What a crazy match though.
Have you ever watched a soccer match? Or an Olympic sport? Or the recent world baseball classic? (Japanese fans did the same thing, rightfully so.)
Whatever else it is Street Fighter is a spectator sport. Ok not sport, but spectator event. It’s not disrespectful. It’s hype, excitement, and hope that a hometown player can take down one of the Japanese titans. When Daigo won, he got plenty of cheers. The crowd loved him.
It’s homefield advantage. It’s only natural. It’s not meant as disrespect and I doubt Daigo took it as such. If anything, it fueled him to win.

He said it on alphaism radio that he would counter with boxer, so it wasnt a surprise. I think he might have said it on djwheat too. Personally I was surprised when he used abel . I was expecting boxer. I was like “huh? abel? I thought he was gonna use balrog”
Thank you
Not only does Daigo stay calm and collected like he always does, but he also does it on the ROAD again! I really admire how he wins those road games! Even though he probably blocks everything out to completely concentrate on the game (he’s probably one of those Joe DiMaggio types that can fully concentrate even if the stadium is burning down) even on the rounds and matches that Daigo won, hearing some of the disappointment in the crowd, like when the visiting team ties the game/takes the lead, probably pumps him up mentally inside as well, he just didn’t visibly show it. That’s how a guy on the road can use the crowd in his favor too, that’s what I call “visitor field advantage” haha.
I love how the almost-myth of 09’ers is practically true in this thread. Except parabellum. He’s awesome.
Stuff like this is just hilarious.
And also, Justin can’t play to the crowd and hype it up after he took a set from Daigo? If ANY of you guys took a set from Daigo (or were on the brink of doing so) on the Evo stage with 1000+ people watching you in the crowd and fell that you WOULD NOT do something to hype the crowd up, you are joking me. :looney:
I uhhh…well…uhhh…hmmm @_@
It’s the heat of it, the fucking hype. It is such a rivalry in all of our minds, and I cant think of two players who just straight up represent their countries as much as Justin Wong and Daigo.
East Coast vs. West Coast. Bears vs. Packers.(Or other sports rivalry.) Korea vs. Japan.
It’s just fun, dude. Watching the matches online was so intense. Watching the matches live in a room filled with 3000+ screaming enthusiasts is a whole other thing. When you go to a tournament that size, and witness a match of that caliber, you cant help but get nuts. Couple that with fucking stars-and-stripes American Boxer vs. Japanese as fuck Ryu… pandemonium. Diago has been to our tournaments many times before, and he knows by now that it’s just the way we do it. He knows we respect the shit out of him. Too fucking good.
Didn’t Mike Ross (or someone) on I Got Next say something like: “It’s about seeing which coast is better, then seeing which coast won’t get embarrassed by japan” ? Not saying EC is better than WC (not something I really want to get into in this thread. . . can one man make a whole coast better?) But it came down to East Coast vs. Japan, or even USA vs. Japan. So what if people wanted an American to win over the Beast? People that are complaining over this, calling it ‘fucking classless’ need to remember this game brings a lot of hype. It’s almost to be expected.
I think this grand finals match was fucking awesome.
A guy was jumping out of his chair like nothing( and talking to himself) during this fight and during HDremix.
Very true. The people chanting were just having fun. A lot of them probably wanted Daigo to win.
this match shows why justin wong’s mental game is not up to with daigo…celebrating that crazily after winning a round was just dumb…you can’t show any weaknesses out like that during a match…nothing wrong with with the explicit celebration, it got me a bit hyped too, but the long ass celebration in the middle of the match shows that justin wong is still young(loves to celebrate and celebrated at the WRONG TIME) and was not aware of the situation(it was a 1 1 game). Like a previous poster said, justin was very lucky daigo didn’t press start on his ass.
And just how do you know that?
One word to describe this thread.
Speculation.
