Nothing.
I find Guilty Gear and Blaz very interesting to watch. It’s like mini-marvel to me. One of these days I swear I’m going to sit down and actually make an attempt to learn how to play.
I honestly did not know where Daigo stood in SF4 and sort of thought that people were just creating crazy hype beacuse it was “Daigo.” But man, the way he remains calm is just incredible. Justin with the surprise counter pick, getting out of his seat when he made comebacks, people chanting “U S A”, and he still was able to control his nerves. I know this shouldn’t come as a surprise, but to see it live gave a better impression as to how mentally tough he really is. I was seriously impressed.
I think Justin could have one if he pulled out a console only character Like Cammy or Sakura that last match.
Should have known that Daigo doesn’t play on console and capitalized on that weakness. He could of spent his time practicing all the console characters so Daigo couldn’t adjust.
Daigo is still on Top!!! so happy that I talked to Daigo yesterday!!
I don’t like how disrespectful and arrogant the East Coast guys are, but you’ve gotta give props where props are due.
Being that masterful with three different characters is impressive. The gloating before even finishing a match is bad form but awesome game skills.
Much respect.
Very solid matchups, the best I’ve seen but I didn’t like the rude crowds shouting and talking bullshit. Daigo was mentality being raped from all the shouting, in the final rounds it was very obvious he just wanted it to end and leave from the look on his face.
Next time just put the players in a room where they can just play and concentrate.
J.Wong’s boxer is great, well done.
Why is anybody surprised that Justin picked boxer? Thats exactly what he said he was going to do the day after the GS tournament.
justin dominated everyone except daigo and their finals match was extremely close.
i heard that daigo lost some money matches but i did not see it.
I remember one of the commentators saying Daigo lost a couple of money matches when referring to player fatigue.
Rumble in the jungle!!!
Did Daigo face any strong Console only characters at EVO?
i was rooting for daigo tbh but you gotta hand it to justin man he took it down to the wire, came down to the last match of the last possible set.
Edit: thanks to whoever neg’d me, apparently being honest just gets you called a “weak ass bitch”. i even give/gave justin mad props but w/e.
Does anyone know who that Woman was that was shouting during the match?
I found it VERY hard to concentrate with her yelling. You heard her over the guys. I can only imagine how Daigo and Justin felt.
Sigh. I forsee an impending thread war.
I’m getting out. Props to Justin and Daigo for a great finals match. (It was.)
I wrote this up for another forum I troll. The lingo isn’t very SRK, as the intended audience isn’t made up of many SFers so I dumbed it down a little.
"The grand finals were soooooooo hype! Justin Wong vs. Daigo Umehara (as many predicted). After losing the first match as Abel, Justin seemed as though he was at an identity crisis, but it was possibly a great thing. After several moments just sitting in his chair, pondering, he selected Balrog. Umehara is hardcore about Ryu, no questions asked. So this boiled down to the ultimate USA vs. Japan grand finals! Even the characters represented this, what with Balrog in his stars and stripes alternate costume and all that jazz. The crowd was absolutely ecstatic and many Americans (being the proud fuckers we are) began several old school USA chants you might hear going to baseball games.
“LET’S GO JUSTIN LET’S GO! /clap /clap”
The fights were absolutely amazing, and you could really sense the mental forces at work, even across the internetz! Speaking of the internetz, the live stream fed these grand finals to no fewer than 23,658 viewers. Not to mention the estimated 4,000 people that were there spectating in person. Justin played a very mean, decisive, defensive Balrog. He hasn’t used Rog much as of late, and some of his execution was a smidge off, but his amazing use of game mechanics and Rog basics and normals came on full force on Daigo. It wasn’t a schooling though. Daigo is a damned Street Fighter genius! I can’t even begin to really describe the matches, but they both played so well.
Justin was coming from the losers bracket, Daigo from winners (duh). So Daigo only had to beat Justin 3 matches (best of 3 each mind you), whereas Justin had to beat Daigo that much, just to send him to losers, and then another 3 matches (best of 3 still). It came down to the last possible match! Justin beat Daigo 5 matches, and Daigo beat Justin twice! So obviously the crowd was chock-full of electricity, a kind unheard of to modern science! This was amazing! Was USA finally going to beat Japan at their own damn game!? Justin had so much hype from the crowd.
Truly amazing play from both sides, but unfortunately, Daigo Umehara did take that very last round. The match was so close! It’s so unfortunate. I didn’t generally favor Justin Wong pre-SF4, but I couldn’t help but root for him this time. I really thought he was going to win. Nonetheless, this was easily the best Evolution tournament to date! There was a lot of new blood, and people from all around the world. It was nice to show Japan that America can play the newest Street Fighter on the same level that they can.
So, in closing, Daigo “The Beast” Umehara flew to America for a couple hundred bucks, and will fly back to Japan with over $7,000 hanging out of his back pocket. That bastage!"
:bottle:
It was a tight match. Very exciting and tense. Daigo was really calm in tense situations. I like the look on his face when justin picked balrog. He looked to be smiling and suprised at the same time, lol. That chunli player(Ricky Tran) gave daigo a bit of trouble in the earlier match.
Good shit Justin, But Daigo was not gonna loose =(
Ugh. Her and the other tools were annoying as fuck. I would have found it hard not to have gotten up and knocked one of them the fuck out if I was in Daigo’s/Justin’s place.
that match… just blew me away…
i have never seen something so, hype, electrifing, anything like that, in my life.
the footsies were just insane!, man… from now on, i’ll practice more footsies.
