J.Wong vs Daigo

It’s bad sportsmanship. I like getting hype for matches, and this was a super hype match.

However:

He seriously needed to shut the fuck up and play. Bad sportsmanship. Bad. America needs to learn some sportsmanship.

Now if he had won the whole thing and went apeshit like that. Okay cool, I don’t care that much. But there was a lot of Street Fighter left to be played. And in the MIDDLE of a match. It’s disrespectful. and Wong went on to lose the game, so his entire celebration was just premature ejaculation.

lol at this thread

shit was hype

Yea everyone that has joined in 2009 has been lurking for years.:coffee:

If that was the case then maybe you should of joined back but we all know the truth, stop lying. You joined this year and your lack of understanding whats going on here truly shows. This isnt your house, or your friends, or your local arcade. This is the stage of all stages, people representing countries here and this is acceptable behavior to you? Like I said, you kids today are on some other shit.

The matches was unlike any other I’ve seen in SFIV, a great final. The footsies and super canceling made it look like I was watching 3S.

LOL. You must be Asian or a foreigner even though your location is LA.

Look 09er, there’s a difference between Cheering for your country, chanting USA or “Let’s go Justin” or saying “Beat Japan” or “fuck Japan”

Justin has had to play with “Justin sucks” chants various times in the past such as at Evo 2k4 in california during the 3rd strike days when people were chanting for Japan over him despite him being an american.

BTW - props to" Dan from Japan" for showing that US still has a long way to go in general to compete with Japan. Sad but true.

Props to Sanford - for not only meta-ing Dan but showing a Cammy play level that was just jaw dropping. Your other wins where nice too

Props to all non Ryu, Akuma and Rufus players. You got balls.

Mike Ross bragging???
Links or it did not happen. He is about the chillest dude (IMO too chill) in the US.

Wong Vs Daigo was a great finale. It just happened to turn out this way and I can’t be more please. One of the most interesting things I’ve noticed in this final battle is that Justin actually took a lot of time thinking about who to use. Despite of people persuading him to use Rufus, he carefully scrolled through the screen to see if Daigo gives out any reaction to specific characters. When he picked boxer, I thought it made a lot of sense. Some people were confused by the selection but IMO, american boxer players are a lot more aggressive and creative than Japanese boxers. Like Japanese boxers are good but when it comes to tricks, I think US got it down better. Unfortunately, Daigo adapted in the end and managed to pull through and became the champ. Nonetheless, great playing by both players. I was really encouraged to work on my zoning after watching this like most of you have pointed out. Also I was clapping and cheering during the whole match. And wow 20,000 viewers on live stream. Imagine the possibilities guys.

I do respect the US players. I’m an American. However, Japan is at a slightly higher level. They grind harder than even East Coast players. They are more unified, they share strats and tech with each other. Their player base is tighter. Their tournament rules are stricter which forces them to play at a supremely high level. They can’t afford to switch around so they play the best characters to give them the best chance of winning which is why the metagame in Japan is different. I think it’s a disgrace that out best players don’t play the best characters.

Instead we have Mike Ross losing time and again with Honda when it counts. JWong losing to Ryu with his Rufus, thus making him have to counterpick, Arturo playing Dhalsim (Dhalsim is great but mid tier and difficult to play)

In the USA we’re all over the place. There really is no united front to beat Japan. The West Coast is the worst in some respects. First it’s West Coast vs. East Coast. Then its NorCal vs. SoCal. In SoCal everyone seems to be out for themselves. For example the existing feud between Watson and Gootecks…because Gootecks had to open his mouth in casuals. He couldn’t respect Watson and then Watson took offense.

I apologize for getting a little angry with you for telling me to STFU, but I do think I have a point here. The US players are not at the next level just yet.

Yeah people need to lay off the “lol 09” crap. Also been playing since sf2 first hit arcades. Most players dont even come to the forums that often if at all let alone make accounts. SRK community has been pretty bad for a long time imo. Cant really blame people for not wanting to associate themselves with the “forum people”.

Lets go justin!!!

i have to agree with this. There are alot of polite Americans just like Japanese. good parents will not let their kids do this kind of stuffs.

Most Americans will not Jump up and down after he/she won couple games. remember he didn’t beat Daigo yet, he still had to beat him 3 mroe games.

That shit made me laugh so hard. The funnier part was that it wasn’t a white bag. It was a blue fanny pack! LMFAO!

posted this in the Sabin thread but I think it’s a more appropriate topic here and more people might know the answer. After the “I Got Next” Documentary Mike Ross said he knew who was going to win EVO SFIV Finals. He went on to say it wasn’t Daigo but he just knew Mago was taking it. Where was this Mago? Did he even coem to Evo? If so, why didn’t he even crack top 8? Where’s Momochi? I saw a video of him whooping up on Daigo but he doesn’t go to represent himself as a potential World Champion of SFIV? I gues I’m just not sure where all the top Japanese talent was or why they weren’t invited. Justin Wong however played amazing once he picked Balrog. I’ve never enjoyed watching a video game match as much as Sports until last night. Truly awesome. I don’t think there’s a better American SFIV player.

Sorry guys, I was not impressed with Wong’s Boxer. I mean, sure he is good with Boxer, but he missed like a million chances to headbutt. Also, he didn’t do a single turn around punch. It isn’t like those moves are bad, I think he would have done better.

That said, the fights were fun to watch. I’m glad Wong lost just because he kept putting down his stick to jump around like an idiot. When he stood on his chair in the finals I was just hoping he would fall and crack his head.

only two Japanese Entered. I heard Mago doesn’t have passport lol. and others don’t want to go because only top 3 gets money.

Justin breeds that kind of mentality and so does the american street fighter scene in general. Chanting shit, trash talking, etc. That’s fine if it’s your friends and everything, but it’s kinda bullshit when we have an international stage where you kind of are representing America in a sense. I’m sorry if not being loud and obnoxious makes me un-American, but I don’t much care for that kind of behavior.

I disagree bro, I can respect his talent and skill in the game, but not his immaturity.

In life respect is earned, not deserved.

After just watching the Finals, that was amazing. I had never been so excited watching a recorded video on my computer before lol. The way the crowd cheerd wong was awesome and it was great to see him get up midmatch and showboat for them lol. It was almost to try to get into daigo’s head. He actually looked stunned somewhat. Being a cammy player i really dont like balrog. But it was fun to root for wong and rog. Im going next year. P.S. I cant believe everyone is whining about wong standing up. Its bad he isnt like everyone else? They are being paid to play video games. I dont understand why people take it so personal.

No problem, it’s cool. I know what your original point is about Japan being generally better, and your explanation just then spells things out more clearly. I just didn’t want you to belittle our best players in the process and the things they’ve managed to accomplish.

To complement one of your points, Seth did comment during the Sanford Kelly/Justin Wong match on how JWong tends to keep the best strats for himself. I’m not saying that’s indicative of the entire US playerbase’s behavior, but I did make a mental note.

One of the best matches I’ve seen. Hell, EVO in general was the shit!

Anyone know if there are any post evo interviews with daigo and wong?
