I was surprised to see Justin Wong pick Balrog. I though it was very smart to not use headbutts to get through fireballs because daigo would of been likely to punish. I was impressed with Wong being able to stuff alot of daigo’s movements with standing heavy punch never see alot of rog use this poke since ST. Also i like daigo’s use of cr. foward and his hit comfriming is insane. Very good and exciteing match.
You apparently weren’t raised right. Respect and maturity have NOTHING to do with a country you fucking tool. I’m american and have a deep appreciation for graciousness when fighting a very skilled opponent. The fact that you associate politeness as a Japanese tendancy exclusively says a lot about your upbringing, or lack thereof. Honeslty, I blame your parents. Idiot. his antics were fucking embarrassing. Maybe if you had more friends over then you’d understand the concept of being a gracious host and how Justin Wong was not applying that model during his match against tourists. I’m all about the U.S.A. winning but like someone said before with the McEnroe example, giving up your dignity for a win isn’t worth it. Most people after your reign will remember you for being a fucking asshole and not for being dominant.Hitler anyone?
I think before EVO, the consensus was that Justin Wong was an arrogant prick who is not on the same level as Daigo.
During the tournament, people who believed this realized that Justin is playing for America, and that’s why the crowd was cheering for Justin. In the end, nobody wants the Japanese to come to our home and steal our championship.
Now, all those Justin Haters/ Daigo dick riders can keep their mouths shut, and give respect where is due.
It’s about context though. Maybe Justin wasn’t in his face, but this was an American event full of sweaty american douchey guys. When Justin does his antics like that, he’s basically inviting the crowd to get on his side and almost “taunt” whoever he is opposing.
Of course, this is no different than home team advantage in sports. But if SF4 is a chess match and not football, then it might be best if that kind of emotion be kept until the event is over. Just my opinion though.
Cue 09’er bashing.
Sensible to whom? 09ers?
You really need to shut up, fucking children dont understand shit.
The only thing i had a problem with is Justin getting in the middle of the match. finish the match then get hype. he wasn’t taunting Daigo so it all good, just finish the match.
edit:
That was so hype i almost shit my pants!!! good games though!! JWong with stars and stripes
LOL…Butters, that was some classic shit, good one…LOL
LOL Hilarious.
Ceremony means nothing to him.
It was a match between Ryu/Daigo’s pride and Justin’s Fight Money literally.
nothing wrong with justin’s celebrations at all, you guys need to lighten up.
Celebrating early on the beast… what a mistake. I like Justin’s play and I thought he played great through out, but he needs to chill. If he stayed calm, stayed focus, and concentrated, he would of won. That whole boxer thing rattled Daigo completely, but once Daigo figured him out, it was over. That may have been Justin’s best chance to beat Daigo, but I don’t think he will get that close again. Daigo has his number now. Justin’s Abel and Rufus can’t take out Daigo and his Boxer had that element of surprise. But now thats gone, Justin won’t get that close if they do fight again.
This is exactly what I was getting at a few pages ago.
Good post.
LETS NOT GET OFF-TOPIC!
Regardless of your opinions on Justin’s or Daigo’s attitudes, I think we should focus on the gameplay aspects of the match. Justin played hard and went way beyond what anybody could have expected! He deserves your respect!
Its peoples misconception warp. Gootecks an Mike didnt brag… they amp’d themselves. They held down their coast… they never bragged really. U can’t help they got attention BY WINNING… they were trying to make a name for themselve an hold the scene down as a whole… same with justin an whomever else was winning at the moment. Its like the documentary that was released my boy joe said ultimately it comes down to see how well we (usa as a whole) does against japan…
proud of both coast an players holdin it down regardless… thank u for takin the scene to another level. all those disliking play style or how they “reacted” obviously never really been in a true tournament atmosphere… what u saw was actually pretty nice as compared to the hay day of cats call in u names an taunting even worse…
lord the younger generation is killing me with their perspective on things
I’m not even getting on him for taunting. I’m not getting on him for celebrating. I’m not getting on him for “being a bad example of an American” or shit like that.
I just think it’s rude for somebody to get up and run around in the middle of the match with still a third round to be played. I mean at least wait til the third round is over!
AMAZING matches… nailbiter right until the end.
Most Def wanna try to make it out there next year…
I completely agree. The main reason this match was so epic was because of the pregame words and stints done by Justin. He was definitely cocky but if you compare him to other pro sports figures, he definitely fits the profile. Personally, I don’t think his cockiness at evo was distasteful as compared to his post national comment. I think he played with class.
Only two people in that event made it as hyped as it was. Diago and Justin. My hats goes off to two of them.
Gotta give it to Daigo for always sticking with Ryu and getting the most out of him.
most intense match ever. i watched it live, everytime J.W won a round, I would type “USA USA USA” on the chat screen. cant wait 4 the DVD
Damn, Can’t believe I just got called an 09’er. I’ve been lurking this site for years, just never felt a need to post till recently. I was playing street fighter 2 in 7-11 before you probably knew what the game was.
