J.Wong vs Daigo

Daigo is not Japan.

So, just out of curiosity is Mike Ross giving up on Honda? I heard some stuff and checked out his twitter and it said “Aaaand the votes are in…no more honda”. I didn’t want to make a thread for this because people hate it when 09’ers create new threads for whatever reason.

Just watched the ustream VODs… tight match.

Wong and Daigo put on a stellar performance and the match was every bit as intense as we all imagined it would be. Good shit to Mr Wiz, S-Kill, and all the Evo staff. One to remember.

P.S: All the people saying that hype and stuff is disrespectful have clearly NEVER been in a tournament atmosphere. It is an integral part of the whole experience and like it or not, it’s here to stay. Competitors won’t have it any other way.

this match was so good. Now I’m sleepy at work…but it was worth it!

Well wasn’t it stated several times during the stream that Daigo and his friend Dan don’t have any console experience. Hell, Sanford knew this and busted out Cammy against him. Something I don’t think he would have done against anybody else(except Daigo maybe) in the top 8.

The whole of Japan, of course not. But those 2, apparently the answer is yes, no console experience.

Maybe because Daigo doesn’t own a stick and that would make one believe that he doesn’t play on console. But still, only speculation.

Sure, but look at the damage. Look at the damage.

LOOK AT THE DAMAGE.

lol @ people saying Daigo took it easy. If anyone was there, and was looking at Daigo’s face. He was shook for a good bit.

Floe told Justin to play Boxer, but he said in his mind he just HAD to try Abel. He did, lost, but did well enough to consider a second shot. In the end Boxer was the correct choice.

Only thing is, it was back to back matches so Daigo got a good handful to adapt and learn the style/matchup. Good shit from both players. Daigo ‘mashing’ focus to crumple footsies threw it off.

Amazing play from two talented players, nothing much else to say.

EDIT - lol @ saying Justin’s boxer is gimmicks.

Japanese Rogs are trash.

you know what im saying. lets not argue semantics

besides, its a pretty well known fact that balrog is not a popular character over there, while he is immensely popular here.

american balrog play(generally speaking) > japanese balrog play(generally speaking)

with that, you can generally say that they dont see good balrog players very often, so they are less well prepared for top level balrog play. hope that clears things up a bit:tup:

anyway to watch these videos from my iphone?

i missed a couple (blazblue, marvel, etc.)

Hasn’t anyone seen those vids of Mago owning peeps on the 360 without even batting an eyelid?

Apparently there’s one of Daigo as well but it’s poor quality (stickam recording) and you don’t see his face. Can hear a voice in the background though.

Look at thA damage

Truth, they just aren’t AMERICAN enough to play him. Just like Guile.

In America.

I am inclined to agree. After Sanford’s tricks were gone, he wouldn’t have the experience to keep up the pace for the amount of matches required. Ed Ma didn’t seem to have the mindset for consistency to win against Daigo, which I thought was apparent when viewing his matches throughout the day.

amazing.

i though diago was done for but then he pulled it back.

brilliant.

Apparently Boxer’s not that popular in Japan, so it shouldn’t be surprising that Daigo doesn’t know that matchup that well (no disrespect to Wong - he had a clinical footsie game). Personally, I haven’t really seen many Daigo/Boxer matches so all I can do is speculate (just like everyone else).

But I’m not convinced that Wong will do well with Boxer at SBO, considering the legion of Sagats who eat Boxer’s for breakfast.

Truth. Ed Ma is still sexy and amazing, but it’s the same thing that happened to him at the SBO quals. His consistency under high pressure situations is less than desirable.

Guys did you watch the last TRF tourney in Japan ?
There are A LOT of great and (in my opinion) better boxer than Wong.

Balrog may not be AS popular in Japan as he is in America, but its not like he doesn’t exist here - there are a lot of strong Rogs here.

Wong played Rog though different from anything I’ve ever seen. The footsies, and saving meter for super…I think Daigo’s difficulity had nothing to do with unfamilarity with Rog, and everything to do with unfamiliarity with how *Justin Wong *played Rog.

Awesome show.
