I've covered wars y'know - Frank West thread

Ahh, I see. Hopefully we get that cleared up soon. I kinda want to experiment with a Ghost Rider/Spencer/Frank team.

It’s all good bro.

Update: I just saw Pikie on the stream using Frank’s shopping cart assist repeatedly. Every time he did it, he had Captain America or Wesker provide the OTG; Frank provided the combo-extender. I thus believe that in all likelihood, cart assist is not OTG.

Pikie showed some damn good stuff with Frank during Norcal 2. Took the first round against FChamp. Lost though.

Also, Magus needs to never commentate on anything ever again.

Yeah, I just saw that too. Too bad, but not too much of a loss. (The Frank play was awesome for day -7 gameplay!)

Agreed on all counts. Pikie did great! Some people were acting like Frank can’t open the opponent up at all and is basically hopeless… clearly he’s not.

…And magus needs to shut the hell up. Or possibly get slugged in the face as the first step in the ‘dude, not funny, shut up’ process. He was the one going on and on about a female player and nervously laughing at how she was winning like this was some sort of badge of shame for her opponents, right? Followed by other rather unamusing remarks? Or was that some other commentator?

That was him, yeah. He was also ragging on Nasty for using pad every time he showed up. We saw how that went.

But I’m getting off topic. What have we learned about Frank based on this tourney?

  1. You need to snap a shot before you can use the cart super. It either wasn’t otging right or it doesn’t at all anymore. Not so bad since this is easy PP.
  2. Rolling is awesome.
  3. The weapon rush super (not the cart) has some DAMN good invuln. Frank ran about half the screen before getting hit, and that was in level 1 (iirc).
  4. The axe otg will need an assist to continue a combo at early levels, but it should be usable.
  5. Rolling is awesome.
  6. You get the air throw at level 3. Nice to hear this confirmed.
  7. Rolling is goddamn awesome and people better recognize.

Edit: 8) We were already talking about pairing him with Skrull. Timing!

Oh, so the forums are fixed. Time to pick for info.

Hahah, thanks for the good words fellas. I’m still a touch salty over my loss to Ryan, in a dissapointed in myself-slash-I should have played better sort of way, but I’ve never done well in tournament settings. I flubbed one too many opportunities, and I was hoping so much to showcase all this Frank West experience. If only my first match was put on stream! I’ll have to swap out TheCaptain for Dormammu or someone else with an assist I can cover myself better with, 'cause having these three pointmen is far too vulnerable against run away and throwing out risky knee-drops. I need some sort of lockdown.

I’m certainly not dropping him in the least though. Just need to find the right balance between using assists that add more camera shots versus assists that allow me to roll and cross up safely! So yeah, definately Dormammu. I have experience with him.

And again, thank you much!

Yeah Frank’s damage and normals were looking very respectable, good job representing him. I’m sure with a slightly more structured team cough Super Skrull cough this guy could be a serious problem.

this. there are several characters and supers that can rack up the hits quickly to 100 or close to it. most hypers that are mashable do double (or a few hits shy of double) their unmashed versions. going by vanilla numbers (probably the same for ultimate), the lvl1 supers that do the most hits are…

MODOK 9LoU hyper psionic blaster- 100 hits
doom sphere flame - 57 hits
skrull inferno - 50 hits
akuma super barrage - 48
tron servebot takeout- 41 hits
ryu shinku tatsu - 41 hits
deadpool happy happy trigger - 40 hits
magneto magnetic tempest - 39
iron man proton cannon - 36
storm hailstorm - 35
morrigan finishing shower - 35
amaterasu okami shuffle - 35
trish max voltage- 30
haggar rapid fists - 30 (mashed version)
MODOK killer illumination- 30
dorm chaotic flame - 30
zero rekkoha - 30
shuma mystic bash - 30
dante million dollars - 28
sentinel plasma storm - 20
taskmaster arrows - 25

i’m too lazy to go thru the new characters, but the point is, if frank needs 100 hits to gain max presitge points for lvl5, then that won’t be too difficult to acquire when you consider how many characters can mash their supers for hits in the ~70-100 hit range, and thats just the super. the wallbounce from shopping cart rush only helps when frank is coming in from dhc as well. out of all those characters, i think Tron would be the most user friendly and easiest to level up with, considering her combos are VERY high in hits solo (if lunchtime super is mashable, too good, i could see these two being pretty dangerous together). Akuma would probably be next, then maybe Deadpool if you can get your opponent in the corner and eat a fully mashed happy happy trigger (probably easy with teleports). Ryu shinku tatsu will probably work really well too. MODOK will likely be good with as well. skrull is good to go, which means nova is probably the same. thc’s involving hailstorm, million dollars, and okami shuffle will probably allow him to at least level up to lvl4, assuming you can mash thc’s for the same additional hits/damage as well, so those are honorable mentions. keep in mind, none of this even includes characters that can do lots of hits pre-hyper. all in all, combos that lead to lvl5 don’t seem like they’ll be unattainable, difficult, or exclusive to a small portion of the cast. we’ll see how all that goes.

And thank you for giving us a practical example of how Frank really works. You may not have won a no-prize, little-prep-time pre-release tournament, but that’s not so bad; you’ve shown everyone that Frank isn’t just a worthless gimmick character… and that he may yet have some real teeth to him if we can figure out the finer points of camera combos and getting that important first hit in.

Toward that end, here’s what I’m messing with in my head: Frank (Shopping Cart), Amaterasu (Cold Star) in anchor slot… and slot 2 is any of: Chris (Gun Fire), Doom or Strange (their beam assists), then any character whose assist explicitly hits high or low such as X-23 (Ankle Slicer), Wright (Get 'Em Missile), Wesker (Samurai Edge), and possibly Nova (Centurion Arts, if it hits high; I get conflicting info on that). Most of them DHC into or out of Frank easily enough, so there is no major problem on this end. It’s solely what they provide as an assist that is eating at me lately.

Ammy provides the combo extension and attack duration to make use of rolls just fine. The question is whether I have more need of a beam/full-screen projectile for cover fire, or a high/low attack for the unblockable. That problem has been giving me fits for days now and I’m no closer to an answer.

As other people have already said, (apart from you seemingly choking in the last game, which happens), you played very respectably against a top player with a character who isn’t even in the current game while he played his standard team. You all showed us some good stuff about Frank and I think that’s what we all really wanted anyway :D.

But yeah, I think Dormammu’s looking good in Ultimate, he covers a different field of gameplay to Frank and I think his assist looks like it’ll go really well with Frank. I think I’m going to try him out on my first Frank team, even.

I think that I’m going to try Frank/MODOK/Dormammu or someone else with a good lockdown assist for MODOK.
I also want to try Skrull/Frank/Taskmaster. Because Skrull/Frank is awesome, and Skrull/Taskmaster are the best of buddies.

To be honest i dont think Frank is the best point character, that being said everyone have their playstyle. Their are alot of other way better point characters to racks up hits and are way more mobile that will get Frank to lvl 5. Zero, Doom, Nova, and my personal Chun li, they wont have to work as close as hard like frank to get in a hit and go through the hassle of getting 100 hits.

To me Frank is a super effective second character being able to act like a point in a sense, he is sounding like the best character in the game at lvl 5 so why not have a point character do all the work for him then either DHC etc in to lvl 5…

I sincerely doubt he’s the best character in the game at level 5.
We don’t even know what it DOES.

Not gonna spoiler this, it needs to be seen.

Frank can OTG off of his AA hyper. Cool.

Oh wow he has a meter building assist too.

This guy looks like pure fun, and with the amount of levels/moves seems very good with catching opponents off guard. Might put this guy somewhere

Skrull/Frank/Strange

My team for Frank now. I’m pretty excited because I actually mained Skrull for a while and I really wanna use him.

Awesome Assist Me. Level 5 is basically a permanent X-Factor.

Dante will probably be a great character to have on your team if you’re having Frank on point. THC Million Dollars is going to be great for getting levels.
