RR’s damage output is also the worst in this game, he’ll probably need thrice as many hit confirms to kill anyone as West does, while any b&b is almost guranteed to finish off RR. I think people are overrating RR a bit, he remains me a lot of Trish and I bet he will be as annoying to fight against as Trish but I can’t see RR being that effective on the long run. West on the other hand was already a proto-MvC3 character in TvC and now he’s improved vastly. I think West is the type of character that’ll do very well in this game, far better than people think.
Zero’s damage output is also one of the worst in Vanilla.
And then that happened. (also xfactor)
How much damage a character does isn’t THAT relevant anymore, especially with the game going more in zoning’s favor.
Besides, we can’t judge how much damage he’ll do yet. We did that before and we ended up finding out a lot of characters could do a ton more. (And…xfactor)
So, we now know how the camera and leveling up works. We just need to figure out if the same applies for Assist, because camera assist is just too good to pass up imo.
So his max level 5? What can he gain? a level 3 hyper?
Earlier, a few of us were discussing that Frank seems vulnerable to zoning. Presumably this means he needs an assist that can provide cover fire for his approach. Therefore, I went through the assists we know at this time (which is pretty much all of them) and came up with a list of ones that can shoot (as projectiles, e.g. interacting with other projectiles) full-screen for this purpose. Even obviously weak choices are included. However, assists that are projectile but cannot reach the entire playable screen (e.g. the far-zoom range) are not included, even if they only come up a tad short. On the other hand, Storm’s is included even though only one hit of it reaches the end of the screen. What I have is…
Capcom Full-Screen Projectile Assists
[details=Spoiler]
Akuma (Go Hadouken)
Arthur (Dagger Toss)
Chris (Gun Fire)
Morrigan (Soul Fist)
Ryu (Hadouken)
Trish (Low Voltage)
Tron (Bandit Boulder)
Wright (Get 'Em Missile, presumed behaves as projectile)
Viewtiful Joe (Voomerang)
Zero (Hadangeki)[/details]
Marvel Full-Screen Projectile Assists
[details=Spoiler]
Dr. Doom (Plasma Beam definitely, Hidden Missiles somewhat counts)
Dr. Strange (Daggers of Denac, Bolts of Balthakk)
Hawkeye (Greyhound or Kamikaze Shot)
Iron Man (Unibeam)
Magneto (Disruptor)
MODOK (Psionic Blast)
Phoenix (TK Shot, obviously a bad idea)
Rocket Raccoon (Cannon Shot, based on my current understanding, please correct me if I’m wrong)
Sentinel (Drones)
Shuma Gorath (Mystic Ray)
Spider-Man (Web Ball)
Storm (Whirlwind, just barely reaches)
Taskmaster (Horizontal Arrows, arguably ‘raining’ Arrows to lesser extent?)
Thor (Mighty Spark)[/details]
Does this give us much to work with? Heck, does it even truly solve a problem for Frank on point?
I’ve been thinking about that today actually (Forgive me if I’ve missed this discussed earlier), it seems to be Frank would make a killer anchor in a team if he can level up via his assist. Ending with Frank West at level 4 with paddlesaws and potential X-Factor level 3 would be a nightmar, the chip damage alone would be nightmarish.
Yeah, my team (V.Joe/Wright/West) is gonna run Frank as anchor, I’m just hoping he can level up via assist.
Part of me wonders if he can. Doing that would make it the flagrantly obvious “always use this” assist choice. I’d like to think Capcom isn’t that dumb when it comes to designing assists for a character. …Then I look at Amaterasu having only one good assist (Cold Star) and realize that, yeah, it’s entirely possible the Camera will level him up as assist and make it his default choice.
I hope that doesn’t happen in a way, that shopping cart looks pretty cool. There isn’t a level 5 though right?
^I can see the concern, but at the same time, it could be faster to level him up via on-point character use and then use him on point with much better assists to back him up (was there any truth to that theory that combo ending cameras were faster levelling than single use ones? Was it in a video where he leveled up 2 levels at once by using a combo camera?). Then you could tag him out and use one of his other assists like the shopping cart, which looks quite tasty as well.
It would probably also be less risky, if you were depending on him using camera to level up via assist, one badly timed call and he’ll be in dire straits when you need him at the end of the match.
Yeah, it was pretty much proven you could get to level 4 or maybe even 5 in just one combo with West on point. So I hope camera assist levels him up because then we will have a more versatile character.
does he always puke or is it a random chance? and why does he puke after just one drink??
That’s a lot of damn combos. What’s level 5 do? And does it level up as an assist?
Also, did you add Pies/Wine to his movelist as projectiles? Pies do barely any damage FYI…like 10k-30k about but pretty good hitstun, no knockdown. There might be another projectile change for level 5.
He also has an overabundance of OTG moves:
-Camera
-Sweep kick
-Axe (causes a MASSIVE groundbounce once you get to level 4; seems to be the only one able to be followed up without an assist/hyper cancel)
-Steve’s Cart
Wondering if he can cancel his roll into a super. I hope so.
At first I was disappointed when I saw him…at least to me, Skill’s IGN walkthrough didn’t have enough time to even make him look good. All the info and rewatching the 4 (5 now?) vids make him look like a threat. Pretty excited. Is it just me, or does it look like he cancels Rapid-Stab directly into launcher? Command normal?
If someone wants to keep your lvl 1 Frank West out of arms length it would not be that difficult. Until he hits lvl 2 and gains his roll his mixups and rushing are severedly hampered. Sure his down+H in the air is an overhead, but you can cancel that and all other regular attacks with a roll for safety and pressure.
That’s why I think it may be best to run him second in the line-up, and use a pointman that can get in and risk an airial exchange so Frank can take a picture and come in fresh at level 2, or even 3, depending on how many times you hit them before the switch.
Makes for a much more versitile Frank.
And from what I’ve seen, level 5 makes him glow blue and deal more damage overall.
And I have not seen a possibility to use his camera as an assist.
He has the shoping cart, his three jabs with a broom (or better once leveled up), and a meter builder.
Edit: Also, just to throw out there, you can otg camera after his anti-air super and cancel into one of his other supers.
Huh. I guess eidrian meant that you can still level up even if they block.
Well that sucks, but camera being unblockable would’ve been broken anyway. :x
Sorry for the double post, but Frank’s theme is up

The remix is sooooo hot, I actually like it better than the original.
Wait, level 5 Frank? Was this not shown in the videos, or have I missed something here?
Level 5? Whut? That sounds scary, specially with the chip from level 4.
A meter building assist, eh? That sounds useful.
We got Doom, we’re good.
Seriously now, a good beam assist will be FANTASTIC for roll mix ups.
It’s not that I’m sleepin on him. He looks really good especially when level 4 and I will try him out. One of my mains is Chris and I do well with him even at tournaments. For some reason even though Frank is alot different than Chris he has a sort of a similar feeling.
All I’m sayin is I’ve seen multiple people in threads say they want PW and FW on the same team. If you can make it work more power to you but I’ll put money down right now you won’t see a team consisting of both those characters winning tournaments. Right now it’s an assumption you want PW on point if he’s on your team because you really need that evidence for him to be effective and trying to get it without assist is pretty much a loss… at least vs good players (not just XBLA randoms).
So basically if you want to collect evidence and once you do that and you either switch him out via whatever means necessary. You now have Frank at lvl 1 and now you gotta power him up to be a better character… now is he good as lvl 1? Possibly, I never played TvC so I don’t know if he’s similar to that version. I dont’ see a problem with one of these characters on a team but 2? If you want to be powering up most of the match by all means go right ahead, I will be just wacking away zoning with Ghostrider, Hawkeye, and Dormammu or toss in Strange for mixups as well while you are doing what you need to do to power up.
