"It's show time!" Dee Jay Beginner Thread

Thanks for the video. We’ve got a written account that it works on Hakan, and now video that it works on Ryu, so I think next it has to be determined whether it works on smaller characters or not.

Definitely getting this shit down, being able to land U2 off of any ultra is nuts.

I don’t have Super yet so I practice the FADC Ultra with Guile on vanilla. Got it on my first try, fasho.

I guess I’m starting to lean towards U2. U1 against fireball character, rest = U2.

Good stuff. Someone try this on some smaller characters, such as Cammy and Chun Li.

By the way, j.MK (cross up or not) -> cr.LP -> cr.LP -> st.LK -> cr.MK also works.

Right so how many times do we think we can hit forward before a. We run out of time to do the motion if it comes out on the first two forwards b. We run out of input leniency. Three? I doubt more.

I would guess 2.

I can’t get the down/back charge to store, any tips? I can get the dash off right after the ex machine gun upper (non-mashed) and it will look like im in the perfect spot for the ultra to hit but I can’t get the ultra to release because I’m losing my down/back charge. I tried doing it with the focus cancel like you suggested but I’m having the same problem. I can hit the ultra juggle in the corner trap every single time, but I just don’t understand how to store the charge while you dash.

Dont think of it as storing the charge while you dash. Think of the dash as part of the super motion.

Id say your charge is fine, but you might be inputting everything too slowly, or not fluid enough. Practice this motion first.

charge :db: and then go :df::d::db::l::ub:

This should get you the ultra to come out. Thats nice and easy.

Once you get that 100%, add the dash motion in there.

charge :db: and then go :r::r::df::d::db::l::ub:

The last chunk of inputs should essentially be one fluid motion from the dash, into the roll to :ub:

Another thing to note is that you MAY have to let the stick go to neutral before inputting the dash. Not sure about this though.

Yup, Bill is correct.

Sorry, playing Guile the past year I forget not everyone is familiar with charge moves in SF4.

It’s one fluid motion and I always let the stick go to neutral for a split second before the dash. So charge :db: stick neutral one :r: then in one fluid motion do :r::df::d::db::l::ub:.

When you’re practicing with the focus dash, make sure you’re not connecting with the focus attack. Be far away from the training dummy, charge :db: empty focus and before it fires off, dash cancel out of it.

As for the timing, try doing U2 as slow as possible and that will give you a feel for how fast you need to go before you lose the charge.

Yeah I’ve been using that shortcut and have pretty high consistency for getting that ultra out, I can juggle it in the corner trap every time.

I think the main problem I’m having is hitting PPP at the exact right time. Thanks for the help, I think I just need to practice getting the motion more fluid and timing the punches.

Heh don’t be sorry you explained it pretty well, I’m new to SF4 with the release of SSF4.

Thanks both of you for the help, I will practice more once I get my PS3 copy tonight cause that is what my arcade stick is compatible with. I was just trying to see if I could get it to work on an xbox pad because I can still do the U2 shortcut :db::r::df::d::db::l::ub: consistently on it.

UPDATE: Started practicing the dash into ultra on my stick tonight, was having trouble at first but figured out that I was doing the rotation too slow. This is awesome thanks again for the help!

Ooh gonna try to do that midscreen U2 combo later. I found out u can do it at the corner and the damage was a nice surprise.

I checked this the other day, while it doesnt necesarily go OVER low tiger shots, but it goes THROUGH low tiger shots on start up. hard to time since you have to do it at the LAST possible moment, but a neat thing to know.
maybe LK dreads have projectile invul/full invul on start up?

All dreads have lower body invulnerability on startup.

I know Ex version has invul on start up, i have no idea about lk

So forgive me for asking, I never played Guile seriously in Vanilla, but I’m guessing it’s the same thing from what I saw:

Charge db, f, f, df, db, uf (or ub?) + PPP for dash u2?

You can do UF or UB, which ever is easiest for you. I personally think it’s easier to roll clockwise from 3pm to 10pm.

For the full motion. Charge :db: let the sick go the neutral for a split second :r: then in one quick motion :r::df::d::db::l::ub: PPP.

If it’s not coming out, going into training and turn on input display. I can almost guarantee it will be because you’re missing the second :db:. Hell, I still miss it sometimes after a year of playing Guile if I’m trying to go really fast.

I think LK has a very small invul window on start up, but not enough to go through fireballs. The reason I think this is I was able to beat Dictators somersault a couple times with a last minute LK sobat, I think the timing is too tight though so I attribute it to luck.

I couldnt get LK to go through sagats low tigers at all, sweep doesn’t either. EX sobat seems to be the only option against sagats low tigers.

You can LK Sobat, but you have to do it really late. I find the timing against MK Tigers to be the easiest.

The problem is if the Sagat reads you and knows you are going to sobat through, they can punish with a kara, so use sparingly.

Need some advice… I’m having trouble doing cr. lp, cr. lp, cr. mp consistently. I’m trying to plink it but I might be doing it wrong since I rarely plink anything… Any advice/words of wisdom? I am a total noob for not being able to pull this off consistently. :\
