Love Dee Jay right now, but confused at one point. On the MGU move, you mention how nice the EX version is… sorry if I missed something but using it in game it basically seems like I’m using up a bar of super for 6 less damage than the heavy punch and a bit less stun… What am I missing here?
Tap any punch button during the hits and it does alot more damage. That and you can juggle with EX MGU (EX Sobat Kicks or HP Air Slash) but you cant with regular MGU.
Yeah, I know about the mashing, even fulling mashed EXMGU deals 6 damage less than FPMGU … didn’t know that it juggled well though, quite literally a brand new player and only picked up DJ yesterday, thanks for the info though.
I found out that c.lk xx lk dread kicks are a great tool for corner pressure. It is relatively safe on block and it breaks armor. Also it pushes you back a little bit so your spacing is pretty good too. It seems that lk dread kick is an “air” move so throws (Gief, Abel etc.) doesn’t catch it. And if timed right, it makes low pokes whiff.

Ive got problems bringing out Dee Jays Basic-Bnbs including a special-charge-Move.
Like “c.lk xx lk dread”. The Dread Kicks just wont come out in time to combo into. I just cant seem to do it faster…
Is there a Video-Tutorial out there explaining the inputs/timing on those kind of combos?

One problem might be that you’re doing normals too fast. Pace your button presses so you don’t mash out c.lp c.lp c.lp etc. My mashing, you’ll cancel normals into each other thus making it impossible to cancel it to a special. Start first with one punch to a special (c.lp xx air slash/MGU), then go for two punches and so on. Also some moves are slower like c.lp xx lk dread kick. It won’t connect fast enough so it will be blocked.
Ballsy idea, considering ibuki is probably character haha he is probably going to be somewhere between mid and high/mid.

Check the saikyo newb forums, not trying to insult you, but there are some great videos there to help with understanding how to cancel a normal into a special and a special into a super. You must understand how the game works, the engine, then all will come easy to you, not just this character.
Don’t know if this has already been mentioned or if anyone else noticed, but point blank you can connect cr.HP xx HP.MGU. No other strength of MGU will connect for me (even EX) but the fierce version does. You have to be point blank too, if you’re a little further away even the HP.MGU will whiff.
EDIT: Looks like it’s character specific, going to test the cast and see who it works on, look for that soon.
I don’t think cr.lk links to lk dread kicks does it? It links to max out, mgu, and up kicks but not dread kicks unless I just keep messing it up.

- it IS somewhat character specific
- timing is a bit annoying. too slow and you’ll whiff, too fast and it won’t cancel.
- for the characters it works on, j.hk, cr.hp xx hp.mgu does 348 damage and 564 stun if all the followups connect.

EDIT: turns out you can special cancel his cr.HP as long as you are close enough that his arm hits on the way up before his elbow comes down. Only EX upkicks work, but any sonic boom or dread kick works.
j.hk, cr.hp xx dread kicks does 284, 300, 316, and 332 damage for lk, mk, hk, and ex versions
j.hk, cr.hp xx ex upkicks does 364 damage
j.hk, cr.hp xx ex sonic boom does 300 damage
j.mk (deep crossup), cr.hp xx ex upkicks does 268 (some of the hits miss)
c.LK xx LK dread kick works. I haven’t tested the distance, but it works at least from close to mid in my opinion. Of course you can’t link many c.lks in a row since c.lk doesn’t give you enough hit advantage, but maybe c.LP ~ c.LK xx LK dread kick would work.
Whats the deal with the 2 hit MK? I was trying to link jump mk, crouching lp, standing mk, dread kicks and I often got a 2 hit version of the mk that threw off my timing… I couldn’t replicate it consitantly… its probably something obvious that I’m don’t know about… anyone?
cr.LK doesn’t combo into dread kick. The only way it can is if the cr.LK is counterhit.
thats the far version. only the first hit is cancelable.

I am getting eaten alive by Cody players. By far my worst match-up, I’ve been beaten by more Cody’s than anything else, and he’s not even my most common opponent. I have no idea how to even approach the match-up. Tips?
Zonk knuckle (bingo punch) is invulnerable from the waist up which includes cr. mp. Codys love to throw that shit out there to try and catch random pokes. cr. MK beats out codys crouching jab and outranges it by alot, it also makes cody think about throwing out zonks. once you have cody knocked down he has weak AA options against you followups.
Btw i dont know deejay overly well, im just starting to learn him, but i know almost all the other characters intimately… especially cammy bahaha.
Im sure people have said this before but im having trouble with the basic bnb combos. such as cr.lp, cr.lp, mp, sobat kick. I have like a 50% chance of doing it correctly. The problem is that i’m getting tired of people mashing out of it with ultras. Are there easier combos to pull off besides this one? Also are there any easy combos to into mgu? because as of right now i cant find anway to lead into it. And i usually cant do it raw since it’s priority isn’t all that great.
uhh against cody, he’s the king of counter hits… even better than Guile’s counterhits… sooo be carefull sticking out a cr. mp or cr. mk as he can do criminal upper after wards.
just seek a safe knockdown and do vortex. or stay crouching or whiff a cr. lk to bait zonk knuckle. his rocks are gay as they arc so try not to slide under. maybe ex sobat.
