could you explain to me what unbalanced means
oh and what “competitively serious” means

Unbalanced as in Good characters are too good bad characters are too bad ect. Matchups are hilariously one sided.
Competitively serious as in large tournaments with money at stake.
And what do you know holy shit it’s fun that way
not many other games with that kind of balance issues really make it to that status for that long. The game just oozes hype wherever it is
Once they get CVS2 online with decent code, there will be another 360 sold. I’m sure Microsoft is just waiting for the right moment to ruin my summer outdoors.
are you fucking serious?
How many G’s was that with Duc vs Sanford, like 7G? Mahvel is usually the biggest thing at EVO.
Mahvel has mad comp and the top is balanced and Magneto or Sentinel alone is more fun than whatever game you play.
Why am I replying to another random who has no idea what the fuck he’s talking about…
marvel has more variety in its competitively viable teams than many games (say for example 3s) have amongst their entire cast. how is that not balanced?
You just don’t know…:bluu:

Don’t confuse me with yourself.
Can anyone else confirm that you get some sort of lag with an HDTV? This was my biggest concern. I was thinking that the HD may cause the game to have the same lag issue as playing the dc version on an LCD screen. Can I get some sort of confirmation for this?
I really hope that there isn’t any visual lag, online lag I can’t help but will I have to switch back to a standard television or was this issue resolved already?
There’s a thread on HDTV lag in the Tech forum that will explain all you need to know.
http://forums.shoryuken.com/showthread.php?t=174085
tl;dr version : get a VGA cable for your Xbox. Most HDTVs don’t have post-processing on the VGA input so this will generate the least amount of lag. Barring that, setting your TV to “game mode” or any mode that disables post-processing is the next best thing.
(but if you have time, read the thread it’s really good info)
because it’s not like a “real” fighting tournament “in an anime” where “all of the fighters” have “ambition” and “anyone can win if they just believe”
When it comes out for 360 I’ll try setting my tv to “game” and if that doesn’t work I’ll just get that VGA cable. I wish knew about that cable before I bought my HDMI cable. Would have saved a couple bucks.
Thanks though.
I hope people reporting lag aren’t hooking up their PS3’s with Composite cables or some other such nonsense. No reason that this should have any lag especially after HDR turned out so good.
Also I will attest to VGA for 360 owners, particularly if your TV is not Full HD 1080p, but something like my Bravia which is 1360x768 native. VGA is the way to go.
You’re abusing the numbers to support your point. The comparison is skewed. For a more appropriate comparison you would have to compare the number of characters 3S has that are playable in relation to the total roster vs the number of characters MVC2 has that are playable in relation to the total roster, or you can mix the two and compare total playable combinations. The number of teams used in marvel is still a very small number of the total teams/combinations available. Comparing raw numbers of usable characters in a game with a roster 3 times the size of the game in question without regard to the total number of characters/possibilities doesn’t speak to balance at all. It speaks to variety and the two are not the same.
…10 years later and ppl are complaining about balance… in Marvel… I can feel the ragequits already
2/19 characters = apx. 10% viable characters
God 4, ironman, strider, spiral + assists tron, psylocke, CC, Cyke, doom, = apx. 20% viable characters
Comparisons are fun.
no you dont have to do that at all because its completely irrelevant to how the game is actually played. absolute numbers are relevant, relative ones arent. if you just remove all the non-viable characters from a game does it suddenly become better balanced? not in any meaningful sense. looking at it like that is stupid
variety is a part of balance. im really loath to quote sirlin because hes an idiot but his definition of balance is dead on: “A multiplayer game is balanced if a reasonably large number of options available to the player are viable–especially, but not limited to, during high-level play by expert players.” variety has to be a part of balance for ‘balance’ to be a meaningful description at all. if you have a ton of characters but they all play almost identically, theres really no relevance to the fact that they can all compete… likewise if very few characters can compete but you have a huge number of options to choose from with just those characters, that could more meaningfully be called ‘balance’
You could always put 1 Low-Tier character with 2 other Top-Tier characters together to form a team that could still compete.
^ I personally think this is gonna be one of the last evolutions of team building in MvC2.
Actually it’s not stupid. Your point isn’t as solid as you think it is. While your way of looking at it is more meaningful from a pure gameplay standpoint as in how much variety you’re likely to see as a player. He does have a point in terms of actual “balance”.
You should have left that Sirlin quote out because it’s complete bullshit. He basically described variety not balance.
