Besides, your hard copies won’t lose much in the way of value in the long run. Ogre Battle SNES and Ikaruga for Gamecube still fetch nutty prices even though they’ve seen a release on download services. Collectors tend to want the physical media: owning the game is something completely outside actually playing it.
Actually, I was completely unaware of what GGPO was until I read through the threads on SRK. I’ve been perusing the site since SF4 came out, but hadn’t actually dug deep in the info available here. Thanks, btw.
As for MvC2’s re-release (of sorts) being a prelude to a new MvC? Well, I’d wager a bet it’s that way. While we obviously can’t guarantee that a MvC3 will be coming out (though I heard some mention of a debut this year at EVO months back), Capcom needn’t worry about whether the sales of MvC2 on X360 and PSN will be huge. If that’s [one of] the bullets on them deciding whether to further the series, besides the “OMG Capcom got the Marvel license back” debate, what other setbacks might there be for them not working on MvC3?..besides the masses creating WWIII debating whether to balance it more (IMO, more akin to MvC1), or somewhat keeping it as-is. Then WWIV on whether to keep it sprite-based, or SFIV-esque.
"There is online ? With the game being developed by Backbone, we are using largely the same, critically acclaimed net code that we used in Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo HD Remix and with that will come our player match quarter mode/lobby system that has proven so popular. Naturally leaderboards and some form of stats tracking (details to be provided at a later date) will also be in the mix. So on the net code side, you?re pretty much assured the best fighting game net code ever created for consoles."
-they say they are largely using the same netcode, so it could be better since they are changing it a bit. also it says it’s gonna be the best fighting game net code ever for console, that means better than hd-remix.
so it sounds like they really are trying to make it as good as possible.
We don’t know the full details. Back when Capcom had the license, Marvel claimed bankruptcy. Capcom was pretty much allowed to do whatever they wanted to.
Now because of the movies, Marvel characters are very hot properties. So none of us really know if Capcom has a magic license that says they can use anyone they want to because another fat guy in a suit from another company who currently has rights to one of the Marvel characters can just step in and say “Um yeah how about no” and then they have to go through a lot of boring legal stuff.
EA couldn’t use Hulk for Marvel Nemesis because of something in Sega’s contract. Just to give you an example of how some of this behind the scenes stuff works.
For the past few years both Marvel and Capcom have said they want the series to continue. I’m betting there will be an MVC3 down the road, what characters they use and why, or if it will just be an MVC2 upgrade with more characters + new backgrounds and boss, we just don’t know.
Eh don’t worry about it too much. Sit back, play some video games and relax. BUT I WANTED TO GOOOOOOO…
Yeah because it’s not like they’d over estimate how great the netcode would be to help sell you the game. One would hope it’s better, but it will take more than them telling me it is. (Heck SFIV with it’s update instead of better netcode, relaxed the standards on what made a good connection so it appeared as though the netcode improved.)
Didn’t know that. Cool. But still 480p at 4:3 is still less res than 720p/1080p at 16:9, and I think that’s what the original “textures were better than what the Dreamcast could display” was about.
Quite the opposite actually. I’ve been around since SHGL. I’ve seen what the best low tiers can do and I know exactly why each character is low tier and how they can be exploited. As touched upon, a lot of low tiers have a good chance to put the hurt on MSP because MSP has to engage with them. Not the case with Strider. Granted, there are low tiers with some good options against Strider (namely Omega Red and Felicia). But pretty much all good strider players have evolved past that.
I digress though. Not all strider players you will play online will be good strider players. So more power to you if you can beat on them with low tiers. Hell, I do all the time =)
Everything you just said is bullshit, and I feel sorry for you if you actually believe any of it. I have no problems with MvC2, but your zeal is appalling to anyone with base human intellect.
First of all MvC3 is not guaranteed it’s only your zeal that leads you to believe so. All this celebrating in the streets is nice, but it’s overdone. It’s like when a city’s team wins the championship and you see everyone and their mother holding up their index fingers going “YEAH WE R NUMBAH WON! WE GON DO IT AGAIN NEXT YEAR.” Until the next season starts and reality hits. Yes your team might repeat, and MvC3 may come out, but telling someone to buy the game who doesn’t like it so Capcom can be convinced to work on another one is some Laffin Curve Reganomics bullshit.
As for ST and 3s sparking SFIV that’s fucking laughable seeing as it took ten years. Sales for 3s faded along with sales for Jay-Z’s black album.
I love it when people invent shit to talk about that isn’t there. I said I’d get it and I’ll be playing it. I own two versions of the game and this will be my third, but telling people hey guys buy the game you don’t like is stupid.
It’s awfully narrow-minded to think that good sales of M VS C 2 couldn’t lead to the production of a sequel. Of course it’s not guaranteed; it never is. But games that tank rarely get sequels whereas games that do well often do.
Sequel? Do we even really need a sequel? I’m grateful for SFIV and this, but I want them to keep trucking, and MVC3 might take too much to make if they haven’t started already.
Off topic, I’ve only casually played this game but loved it. My friend would rock me with MSP but I still played and learned a few techniques. I can do IM infinte and stuff…I usually roll with cable/sentinel/Ironman <<
you guys talk about chemistry alot with characters, and my knowledge of this game is so shallow. I’ve wanted to get into it, but there wasn’t a lot of community here for it and the game is just so deep.
I started to, but the local players all stopped playing and thus I had no one to go against. So I went back to playing Halo, and now that it’s online. I REALLY wanna play it.
I just got a sanwa stick for my 360, and I put a 360 PCB in my stick with HAPP parts JUST for when this comes out. I’m playing it on my dreamcast right now (made a new custom mix last night).
While this is not the place to ask that question (MVC2 forums is), I would like to note that when asking questions about a team you need to let people know what assists you are using, as that GREATLY affects a team.
Team chemistry can take a shit character and make them a lot better, so it is very important. Furthermore, a bad team can make a good character worthless within the realm of said team. I could go into it more, but again, this is not the place.
I play XMvSF online and I am a mag storm user. I can tell you now, going from arcade xmvsf to ggpo xmvsf is a HUGE difference for mag storm. There is a split second delay in lag.
Now if I play slower characters that don’t require as much speed like cyclops, it is playable. I know for a fact msp will not do well and teams will be run away trap teams.
Either way though, I am getting the game and gonna play. Being a top player, i am ready to beast online as well.
It’s going to be hard playing against Spiral but from other games I can expect lag cross up lk with Mag to be broken.
You still play? Last time I played this game seriously you had like #2 strider in the world.
I have no problem being future Trunks and fighting Frieza.
One thing that can be done with online point systems is to give bonus points for people who pick the least played characters, which can be easily counted.
