Where is that 1up.com MvC2 demo Gamenight video? It cutoff last night dont tell me its lost forever :shake:
Perhaps, but it’s also a bit wishful to automatically assume that telling the handful of hardcore players on this site to buy the game is gonna make a difference at all.
This is almost a complete tangent to this argument, but telling somebody posting on SRK.com to buy MvC2 so that there’s the possibility of a MvC3 is like telling someone on a Sopranos fansite to buy the DVDs for the possibility of the movie. It means nothing. For one, you’re preaching to the choir. Even a handful of people there probably won’t oblige, most will happily buy. For two, even if you did somehow get everyone on the site in lockstep, the vast majority of the purchasers will NOT be the ones frequenting that site or any other fansite. Hardcore enthusiasts of any somewhat mainstream pastime/hobby/whatever are almost always a drop in the bucket compared to that large sea of casual followers. This is a fact that, for some reason, has to be constantly re-said over and over, no matter the community.
But lastly and most importantly, yes, it’s entirely possible that one may not have anything to do with the other.
SFIV didn’t come about because of paltry-ass ST and 3S sales. It came about because it’s Street Fighter. It’s a big reason why SFIV has fuck-all to do with 3S because SF3 was still a massive disappointment for Capcom. But Street Fighter is and always will be legendary brand that once had a lot of popularity. Bionic Commando certainly didn’t come back because of a massive spike in NES cartridge sales.
MvC2 is only slightly different. The game came out during US arcades deathbed and was ported to the underperforming Dreamcast, so its mainstream popularity was a little questionable. But the brand potential is legendary, and both Marvel and Capcom fucking know it. Since MvC2, Capcom is coming off many many many massive hits and franchises (Devil May Cry debuted a year after MvC2) with plenty of marketable, recognizable brands. Marvel is in the midst of a huge Hollywood blockbuster business, making record-setting bank every year and becoming a regular fixture in the greater public’s consciousness. And Capcom just hyped the shit out of a 2D fighter revival with HDR and SFIV, both selling widely and wildly.
This isn’t like Capcom is resurrecting Darkstalkers right after Vampire in Brooklyn was released in theaters, now.
Top 8 baby.
The greatest thing about MvC3 would be watching it crush people who want nothing more than a MvC2 clone with a few new characters as that isn’t what we’d be getting. Just like the guys who hate SFIV because it isn’t ST/3s etc. :lovin:
I don’t want to read a thousand posts so was it announced when the demo for 360 is gonna be downloadable?
yeah i figured this wasn’t the BEST place for that. For the record - Cable/Anti air, Sentinel - projectile, IM - Anti air.
I was playing earlier (on a VGA box no less) and I can definitely see what they are talking about. It’s not so much the background textures but the art assets like the super freeze portraits. On DC, they are displayed a little blurry and you don’t see the top and bottom of them, but watching vids of the new one you can see the whole pic and they look a bit sharper. Same with the portraits on the vs screen, they looks a little sharper than they did on DC. Kinda like playing an FPS and turning the texture detail 1 below max, but the new port is set to maximum. It’s not a huge difference, but it’s there and it’s enough to make everything still look nice at a way higher resolution.
Anyone Know The Timetable Between The Demo And The Actual Release?? 2 Months Im Thinking??
I don’t know much about mvc2 so this question may be kinda stupid, but what about the (banned?) ability to juggle dead assists with something like Mag’s c.hp until time over?
It may cause a problem in ranked online matches where you can’t force “tourney rules” on people.
Snapback Infy’s FTW Baby!!!
That’s a good point. They had (still have?) Mike Z and Magnetro testing it for awhile so hopefully it crossed their minds.
It’s not going to be removed.
but hopefully people won’t do it on ranked online matches…I don’t care either way.
Yep.
On a side note, when does that ban on your main expire?
Heh, true. If there is a MvC3, I’m willing to bet it’d be a lot like TvC since the groundwork’s already there. 3D, cel-shaded, smaller cast. Maybe back to 2v2 (I wouldn’t like that, though).
They really do need to cut the fat on the roster. Not just for balancing purposes but for marketing purposes. I mean, Shuma Gorath? Marrow? Kobun/Servbot? Amingo? Roll? No one gave a fuck about these characters even when they debuted.
MvC2’s roster is like refrigerator soup. It’s like you’ve got already got some shit to simmer in the pot, but you throw in some extra that’s about to go bad that might make it taste a bit better.
What I’m more interested in is the art direction, and the marvel characters. As someone alluded to alot has changed in the Marvel universe the game would have to reflect that.
As for Capcom they’ve stepped it up lately, but I think only because they were forced to. We know that they love to reuse sprites so I’m pretty sure they’d just erase the T in TvC stick in some M characters and a few more Cs
I disagree about removing Roll. Mega Man’s a pretty popular series, as Mega Man 9 showed. Plus more female characters is always a good thing, even if she isn’t hot. Proto Man or Bass would be good if they wanted a different Mega Man character though.
But yeah, Shuma Gorath was always a lame choice.
Argh, sorry for the double post.
Maybe you should stop at discounting everyone else’s opinions. I said that I disagreed with you because your post didn’t acknowledge the possibility of sales leading to a sequel. Not to mention you were snotty to that guy. Sure, he was naive, but you don’t have to mean, either.
Which is why I said what I did. We’re all grown here why do we need to state the obvious?
“Companies like to make money. When they make profit they like to keep it up”
It’s just your tone, dude. No one likes to be talked down to. But if you didn’t mean any harm, then all is well.
The guy he was replying to is notorious for talking down to people.
