I’m speaking from my own experience of playing MvC2 at my local arcades and against my friends at home. We still pop it in to play every now and then when we get together. I think we’re a pretty good example of the majority. We can’t do any of the really high hitting combo. I’m talking about the really devastating stuff, sure we can do Cable’s HPx3>Hyper Viper Beam or Guile’s double sweep kick>Super Sonic Boom, but not that crazy stuff that Mags or Sentinel can do in the videos we’ve seen on Youtube.
And I’m talking about other players like myself, not against SRK’ers or other skilled MvC2 players. Basically I don’t think most players have to worry about running into players who can do a lot of damage in a short amount of time. I’m not much in this game but I don’t think I should worry about being constantly owned. I could be wrong but that’s my view of how good most players will be right now.
How deep is Marvel? Or is it quite simple compared to say…3S?

You have to remember a lot in Marvel. There a different “tricks” (read: glitches/exploits) in the game that you have to be aware of. You need to know what assist your opponent has, it’s properties, hit-boxes, and how he plans to use it, ect.
Plus it’s about 300x faster.
So think of 3S on crack wacked out on broken-sauce.
EDIT: can we make it a ban-able offense to make a thread with ROM in the title? Just suggesting…

it takes 15 seconds to get raped in marvel, it takes 30 seconds to get raped 3s. when you’re getting raped in marvel, you can’t do shit, when you’re getting raped in 3s you can get out.
I’ll try learn it on the side as it looks like good fun anyway, bought some points today since I just switched to the 360 version of SF IV and need to rebuy some costumes! Gonna have just enough left over for MVC2 whenever it comes out.
I think this is the case, honestly. Competition-level veterans aren’t as abundant as most people probably think. It may very well be 10 years old, but not very many people still play the game. Even the guys over at GAF seem to be more of your average player.
I just think once the game hits and starts selling well the majority of players will just be average and not really able to grasp the game as well as the veterans have, imo.
I doubt they’ll have to worry about getting absolutely destroyed by muscle-memory infinites all that much.
Shit I consider myself OKAY at the game and I’ve been playing since it came out. I still can’t fucking pull off infinites with much success yet I still manage to beat all of my friends and did reasonably well in my local arcade before it died.
So yeah, I think it will be the best of both worlds honestly.

Man, after reading these post, I still feel that MvC2 needs some complete re-balancing. Everyone already talking about how they intend to use the god tiers in this game to beat noobs.
All this is going to do is create a pattern where everyone will flock to the same characters.
When I use a regular team like Ken, Ryu, Akuma and play against another team like Cable, Sentinel, and Magneto, it is literally like going to a shootout with a knife and brass knuckles.
MvC2 is still a top buy, unbeatable at the price of $15, but it still has the potential to be so much better if I had a fighting chance to use characters that I liked as well as everyone else.
Don’t tell me it’s too hard to rebalance, I know how to do MUGEN. They could simply swap out some characters and add in some new characters, or they can even do like the new King of the Fighters 98 Ultimate where you can simply hold down some buttons to unlock EX version of the Characters. I love using Geese from 96 but the EX version version has so much more to offer.
Give me an EX version of some of the lower tier characters so when Magneto start doing those wacky air dashes, you can counter it with appropriate moves.
