If I’m playing someone who I feel is being boring, or annoying (Balrog turtle comes to mind), I taunt. Thats about as far as I take it. And yes, JWong is a prick. A very talented one, but a prick none the less.
^ I agree with this. It seems a lot of you guys have never played any sports competitively at all. Trash talking is part of the game, but you LEAVE IT IN THE GAME. Calling people retards, faggots or using racist slurs towards them isn’t trash talking anymore. I don’t understand why people like to refer to Justin Wong as un-classy, arrogant and disrespectful. Its obvious him celebrating is part of the game its not like he says “YOU FUCKEN SUCK I OWN YOU!” he does also acknowledge the other player when he wins also. Sad part is most of the people calling him an arrogant or prick are all ‘2009ers’ and yes that says a lot. That you’re basically new to the community and you haven’t been here long enough to understand it. You don’t even know the guy, yet you can call him a prick over the internet? lol.
If you don’t like trash talking maybe you should go play a game that isn’t competitive. Hello Kitty World Adventure’s anyone?
Tasteful trash talk is fine. You put yourself on the line to be clowned. It’s hype.
But, there is always a line and that something we can all agree on.
Yea so many haters on PSN.
I wish there was a option to block all incoming messeges on PSN. And keep options open with friends only.
Id rather just play instead of messaging. I get krazy shyt talkers wanting to rematch or say I got lucky or callin me noob or just sore loser trash talking. Stupid kids.
Don’t think of someone coming to your house to break your arm for trash talking as an act of revenge, see it as his way of getting a slight advantage.
justin wong is a clown, i would have popped him in the jaw if he did that to me
i agree with the first half of you post, but the “2009ers” part is 1) wrong and 2) really dorky. it has nothing to do with being part of a “community” except maybe the community is filled with nerds and geeks that would put up with shit like that from a dork like j.wong. i’m telling you, if someone got in my face like he did playing street fighter i’d knock him on his ass then ultra combo his ass while he was on the ground.
Falling breaks the combo, you can’t Ultra them until they get back up.
There’s a high correlation of “2009ers” and “i’d beat their ass if they talked trash to me in real life” just read every post in this thread, and then go to the “Justin Wong is National Champ” thread and read that one. i can guarantee atleast 90% of the people who are complaining about trash talking are 2009 members. I’m not saying all 2009 members are saying it, but the ones who are, are 2009 members.
And it seems you don’t understand that Justin Wong and Mike Ross are buddies. Its no different than you getting into your friends face after you whoop him in any game. SF, Madden, NBA or whatever the fuck games you play.
and your part about " i’d knock him on his ass then ultra combo his ass while he was on the ground." yea buddy anyone can talk big on the internet. That isn’t saying too much to me. Until you go out to a major tournament and do it, there’s no need for you to tell us what you will do.
And then you’d get bodied by the rest of the community behind him. The hype & trash talk is part of the tournament atmosphere, look at the Gootecks vs Arturo & Marn vs Arturo matches from ECT this weekend. If you’re enough of a goon to fight over trash talk then you have no place being there.
I find all of this pretty funny cause Justin is actually pretty cool peoples in person. He’s not this cocky douchebag that GFaqs kids picture him as. There’s why only 09s get mad @ this.
trash talking can go so far that a person can tell you to meet him in 122 ave-42 street so he can stab you because you did too many blanka spins in a match which was considered cheap.
hahahahaha…i think you realized this already, but i meant knock him on his ass in real life then while his hands were off the sticks capitalize!
Dat’s der joke.
lol @ get bodied by the rest of the community.
:lame:
do u even know what “bodied” means? give me a break dude. i swear half of you people trying to trash “2009ers” don’t remember what it was like in the arcades back in the day. you really must be serious internet gaming geeks (not everyone here, just the elitest “pre-2009ers”). it comes down to being a man and having manners and respect. this guy jwong is a grown child that probably told his dad to fuck off when he was told to turn off the video games and go to bed.
@ Forte: I don’t have corny friends like that.
i talk trash during the match and after the match.
Americans trash talk more than Euros or asians? Umm… ya. ill 1up you… us NYC area brothas will trash talk more than all asians euros and canadians combined
I think you guys just have to get used to it. Look at the basketball scene. when you first started seeing urban players (especially NY/NJ ballers) on the courts with the different dress, the baggy shorts, the wrist bands and the trash talk, everyone kept saying "why cant they have class"
but now its just a part of the game, and fans LOVE alot of the new culture that was brought into it. The and1 mixtape tour is nothing but, and thats why fans go nuts for the videos and performances.
I write for online roleplaying games magazine. so i had ZERO care about console games much less know about competitive fighting games. i came across the justin wong video by accident and jumped up and cheered when he won the fight then the whole audience raised their hands. now THATS entertainment.
thats worth paying money to see…
and thats how i got interested in competitive SF4 gaming. go to a tourney in the east and watch how crazy the crowd gets. The hype is so thick you can cut it with a knife, and it is a great change from 4 geeks with pocket protectors quietly sitting in their room drinking jolt cola.
That playground baller style has crossed over to SF4 competitive gaming.
if you dont like it go play hello kitty online.
LOL…i wonder how many trash talkers would be left. if the NBA nullified all the defensive rules changes since 1990? of course, that’s not to say there wasn’t trash talking back then. it’s just that players understood that a good , hard foul was also part of the game.
yeah, i’m in the latter camp. today, professional sport is more like the entertainment industry partly due to the huge sums of money involved. also, players appeared to act more professional because they policed themselves on the field. of course, this was back when pitchers could pitch inside. there was physical play on the basketball court and defensive players could agressively get after the quarterback, etc.
eh, i’m indifferent to the whole issue because online isn’t that serious and i’m not really into following tournament play or getting all into these players personalities.
This could just be an issue of mistaken tone of a written message. It’s very hard to convey irony in written form. If someone writes some trash to me I generally asume the guy’s an ass. If some guy is talking trash like crazy in a happy voice over the mic, that’s a completely different story. That sort of behavior is downright lovable in my opinion (and yes; it is a very american trait by my experience also. Never met a person online who did that who wasn’t an american. Well, a few of my rl friends from Sweden propably does it, but curiously enough they adopt an american attitude and dialect while doing it).
I’m a New Yorker, before the console release i played SF IV a few times at the only place I knew that had a machine in Chinatown. I never seen nobody pull some bullshit like mr. jwong in the video on the front page. In fact, after good matches or rounds its always a head nod acknowledging “good game” or a handshake.
i’ve also played in Japan and Hong Kong while i was there around New Years. I’ve noticed Japanese players are really stoic, they don’t even acknowledge your existence. H.K. players are much more cordial and friendly and get really into the game. But i’ll stop stereotyping now.
Friday nights & Marvel in general can be a whole different story. Not to mention the difference between playing for money & playing casuals @ the arcade. And I don’t hate on 09 members just for joining in 09, but it’s not hard to see where the majority of dumb posts & dumb topics are coming from. It’s easier just to call them what they are.
I ain’t mad at all. I am tired of getting lumped by join date. 09 is not the borg we don’t all think alike.
