Is this game worth investing time in?

2nd and 3rd at Evo for 2 years? What does that even mean?

In any case, there’s no point in bemoaning the fact that it’s no longer on the main line-up. Set-up your own tournaments.

HDR was 2nd/3rd for total entrants, and only barely lost to tekken in 2k10

That’s surprising if true, I figured SF4 would have the highest entrants.

In any case, it got cut for whatever reason, political or financial or personal.

At least you’re not bitter.

I still like HDR. I love the remixed soundtracks, the new art style, and a simple 1-on-1 fighting game. But I’m better off playing Super Turbo.

IF there would be a “Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo: ARCADE PERFECT” I don’t mind buying it.

Just because he’s right doesn’t mean he’s bitter (though he probably is and I feel his pain). Capcom fighting games today are designed with the casual player in mind. And the stuff thrown in for the “hardcore” FG player doesn’t actually make the games any better for high level play. Who cares how many 1-frame links your game has if the core gameplay (spacing, poking, etc) is broken? In actual “good” fighting games like SF2 a high level player can easy beat an inferior one without using any combos, simply by using zoning and spacing and controlling the match, not by guessing better at 50/50 situations and hitting some harder to do combos. But then that isn’t flashy, doesn’t looks good on Youtube, and isn’t easily understood by the mindless sheep crowd so they aren’t impressed and think the game is “simple”. Give me simple, tight gameplay over useless pyrotechnics any day.

In other words, “get off my lawn, you whipper snappers!” You’re old, Possum…but you’re right.

The days of Capcom making games that I would pay for are seemingly over but then again, I haven’t fully considered the possibilities that Street Fighter x Tekken will open up. Next Tekken x Street Fighter. Then Street Fighter x Pokemon. Pokemon x Street Fighter. Street Fighter x Angry Birds. Angry Bird x Stree-- I think you get the point. The possibilities are endless. (I’m eagerly awaiting the farmville crossover).

Sure they’ll probably be mediocre but at least there will be plenty of them. “Quantity not quality” is the old adage, right?

You know, you could have just said I was right, you didn’t have to rub the old the thing in! I’m starting to get sensitive about my age. LOL. You’re right about the cross-overs, I mean, thanks to SF X T we do have Pac-Man in a fighting game now. I think the Mega man based of the old horrible box art is kinda cool, though (but that’s just because I’m old, LOL).

You’re only as old as you feel, Possum.

Interesting how “is this game worth investing time in?” became a philosophical discussion about the current state of fighting games. Appropriate I guess for such an open ended question. (What IS time worth…?)

Anyway, Capcom Vs. Snk 2 and the first Marvel Vs. Capcom for arcade were both pretty good fg crossovers…, but if you watched the progression of MvC, from only the 1st one to the 2nd- they elimated things that made the game better- good things it seems like they easily could have kept.

For instance, Spiderman in MvC1 had 3 variations of his :hcb: webline command throw; straight, diagonal, and directly vertical (corresponding to the :p: used.) In MvC2 for some reason they did away with the vertical one and left him with only two directions. What’s the point of that? The design is already there and having it adds a whole extra layer of dimension to the strategy. Is it really so hard to implement that third version of the move?

I’m just wondering, aren’t there people who actually play fighting games working on these games? Are programmers/designers simply being so overworked by being forced to design 200+ characters that they give up and say “oh fuck this” to strategy? Or are they like the guy who works at Foot Locker who buys all his shoes from Zappos because Foot Locker is a rip off and they’re just collecting checks to get by?

Games of different genres have their fair share of sellout bullshit too, but they’re also getting at least one or two new gems a year.

At least update the servers. People are still obviously playing the game and it bugs out all the time.

Remember that in mvc2 most characters lost that 3rd punch/kick (unless you double tapped, lol)

yes, yes it is.

No.

Now that is a well thought out argument. Full of lots of details and good, valid points. I am totally convinced now, I give up playing this well balanced, superior fighter so I can join the dregs of SSF4 and SFxT! Who’s with me! Yah!

Why would I argue on a fighting game website. I am not a dumb nerd nor low life scum.

So arguing about a video game automatically makes somebody a low life scum? You’re browsing and posting on a fighting game website; you can consider yourself a “nerd” from here on. You said no to playing a perfectly good game. Enlighten the TC and us why.

thanks bro! i give credit to my English class : )
