Is this game worth investing time in?

Rollback happens on GGPO too. I’m pretty sure the guy who made GGPO (Ponder?) actually created that phenomenon with his prediction system.

I sure would love an explanation as to who thought T1 was a smart idea. Plays like shit.

On GGPO you have T1 speed, times when you can’t connect to anybody, and can only play a session with one player at a time. There’s no way to play that’s perfect. Except offline, but that’s hard to swing for most people.

HDR on XBL, HDR on PSN, ST on GGPO, and ST on Supercade, it’s too bad our small community is so divided (that’s why I jump around among all of them). I really think things would have turned out better if HDR had kept it’s momentum after taking off (I, too, wonder what might have been if it hadn’t been delayed so long and came out so close to SF4. If it had had a year or more to itself I think it might still be going strong). Maybe if Capcom didn’t wait a decade to release a new game in the series people wouldn’t have been so resistant to change, LOL.

Yes but its nowhere as bad as XBL (which is not as bad PSN). It attempts to freeze the game in place so it can resync whereas HDR rolls back to what it thinks happened. (i.e. im a shoto, i swept, honda shows he was swept, roll back, im getting ochio’d)

Like mad possum, I now play whatever version. There are some ST players that refuse to play HDR or other ports, and there are HDR players that refuse to play ST. I realised that if you love this game, you have to be prepared to play any version if you really want the community to thrive. It’s the difference between people turning up to tournaments and not, and if players don’t turn up because it’s not the version they play, people just assume the game isn’t popular anymore.

It’s numbers that count.

I dunno about you guys but I have actually noticed that most of the afiv cast actually plays like cvs2 and alpha 3, way more than how they played in st

The only thing I hate about going back to ST or HF are the mash moves. HDR’s 3-input mash moves are so much easier on the tendons. I feel like I’m physically damaging myself when I play Honda or Blanka in the older games.

I’m hoping for a port of Anniversary Edition with GGPO this year. It would make sense since this is the 25th anniversary of Street Fighter. I know the game is a balance nightmare, but it’s so much fun and it has great music.

It’s not too bad if you double tap the buttons, but some would argue that it makes playing ‘mash’ characters more rewarding if you can master their difficult move set.

You mean the AE version of ST? It’s on ggpo, just nobody plays it.

ST offline is slow as hell. HDR and emulators feel much faster. T1 on GGPO is an attempt to both a)more closely mimic the offline speed and b)lessen the way that lag affects online play.

Personally, I would like pure ST on Live, but this is what it is. It’s kinda bs you can play the original ST on GGPO ‘illegally’, but if you wanna be legit, HDR is really the only option (unless of course, you live in Japan). I do love the way you can just load it off the dashboard though, while having another game disc in the tray. It’s not as hard as it seems either if you study the moves and learn some good pokes, and get the SF basics down. One of the more chilled out games to play with the headset I find. Maybe cuz the audience is generally that bit more mature…

its not ‘illegally’ since:

Installing the Game ROMs
In order to play any of the supported games on GGPO, you will need to legally obtain the ROMs for the game you wish to play” so in order to use GGPO u ve claimed u own the original board.

Yeah, in that case, your best option is to play HDR classic online. It’s not 100% ST, but it’s close enough, and it’s easier than setting up GGPO. The HDR audience, at least in the beginning, was full of trolling idiots who had god awful connectinos, but I assume that anyone playing the game now plays it seriously. Plus guys who like games like ST or HDR tend to be of a more ‘mature’ age, so you won’t get any raging 13-year old Halo fanatics who uses his pre-pubescent voice to talk too much on the mic. But your best bet is to find, or create, a community in your local area for quality competition.

Tournaments, whether offline or online, is what largely determines the competitive health of a game.

How very true. But how many people do you know have come into posession of a ‘legit’ ROM of a game? Most don’t know even how KNOW to get a legit copy.

owning the respective board (ROM’s physical form) its what makes it legit, so its perfectly legal if u meet that requirement…

…well, it used to be like that then Nintendo got the bright idea of become filthy richer with old games via Virtual Console, then majority of developers did the same thing, now they will sue ur ass if they find out u r very “profitable”

Anyways, Its like when u trying to access a 18+ site, u claim u r over 18 or u r not (gets u out of the site) even if u r underage but u claim u r:

its not the site’s fault if u false it, u have claimed u r legal to it

I don’t notice this at all. I’ve played ST in the arcade recently and it felt exactly like it does when I play on Supercade with turbo 2. When I play GGPO turbo 1 I am constantly getting fucked by mistiming simple things like crossups and navigating tough zones. It feels so drastically different that I pretty much have no desire to use GGPO anymore for ST (which sucks so much because no one uses Supercade except Brazilians).

Which 99.9% of GGPO/emulation users do not meet. Make no mistake, we’re all dirty pirates!

I don’t have any trouble playing on XBL. Maybe some lag here or there, but my biggest complaint is scrubs using turbo function. It’s just frustrating. I’m not an OG pro, and I’m still not at the skill level I would like to be (read: pro) so it can get annoying.

Just curious, anyone know if there’s any kind of scene in MI for any version?

It all depends on what you want out of this game. For myself… I am a casual gamer who doesn’t play video games too often, but likes to be able to pick up a game once in awhile and play it competitively. On XBL I have never had a problem finding matches and always see a good pool of competition in both player and ranked matches.

Ahh, man. I have always liked ST (or most other versions really), but I just adore HDR. I really feel it’s a shame that this game, for most intents and purposes, is dead. I can’t stand most modern fighters that you must learn certain glitches, or things that aren’t completely obvious from the start to play competitively. Like crouch dashing in TEKKEN6, there are plenty of examples out there. This game is too good to not play at evo, Imho.

Crouch Dashing isn’t a glitch really.
You’re thinking of Backdash Canceling.

My favorite part of evo 2011 was when they advertised it as “The biggest evo ever!” and it went from six games to five.

They cut hdr for nothing

There’s always a reason for cutting games from the main line-up. The primary reason being low player turn-out, in part because of the fact that the community got divided over HDR v. ST.

In any case, it doesn’t stop the community from holding their own side tournaments. Someone just has to step up and make it happen.

HDR was 2nd/3rd at 2k9 and 2k10
