lmao…
What a great way to start off the new decade…
The ‘black people go crazy over fried chicken’ stereotype never made sense, because EVERYBODY loves chicken, not just black people.
“too easy” had me rollin’.
…seriously.
I really can’t be mad at that commercial because that would work 100% not just in Australia either
Was the white guy eating any?
Thought so. Case closed.
It’s an australian ad meant for australian audiences - the fried chicken stereotype doesn’t exist down here, they’re west indies cricket supporters with an australian supporter, and it’s part of a series of ads where the dude uses fried chicken in uncomfortable situations
I personally don’t think it’s a big deal, but - KFC is a US/Global company, and this being the internets age, they should know better than to make anything that could offend anyone anywhere
Same here
Hey Watermelon/Kool Aid/Orange Drank/Chitlins/Collard Greens companies, I have a really good idea for a commercial…
imo.
Black people eating chicken?
I’m offended.
Maybe because he knows Popeyes blows KFC away?
Oh. That’s not nearly as funny.
LOL SO RACIST!!!
Good post Lokken. I’m an Aussie too but I think people are making the racist connection themselves. It’s more about him being in the wrong section, the Windies people could have been any other country really.
KFC had a previous commercial for their Grilled Chicken with a bunch of ethnic groups (whites, blacks, etc), all of them speaking and dressed “normally” (khakis, polos), EXCEPT for the two kamikaze-hibachi-chef Asian guys. They had broken, broken English, and were wearing fucking headbands (Ryu style). It was blatant, just like this current one.
Exactly, the only reason they’re west indies/black is cause they’re usually our biggest rivals, and thus would be the most obvious choice that australian viewers would identify
Well, either them or the brits… but we fucking hate brits, so yeh
It’s nice to know that so much of what looks like malice can still be atributed to stupidity these days lol.
Also I thik the white guy isn’t eating it because of radiation scares since the kfc seemed to teleport right into his hands, **** can’t be safe to et after that, we have enough scares with stuff like mobile phones never mind teleporting food.
It’s quite obvious to me that there are many parts of the world where fried chicken doesn’t have racial/class connotations. It’s Just an ad where a fan in the wrong part of the stadium uses chicken to avoid being pilloried by the opposing fans.
I am not a retardo Australia person, but wouldn’t it be just as easy to put a cricket fan wearing an Australia jersey in a sea of fans wearing British jerseys. That solves the problem of potential offensiveness without compromising the effect of the commercial. The fact that I am not a retardo Australian person and came up with a good alternative in .5 seconds shows to me that KFC is at the very least incredibly stupid if not more.
imo.
Because they’re saving that idea for advertising either tea, scones or crumpets.
