It was true. The only reason Son Goku didn’t defeat him right then and there was because he felt that it was the next generation of earth’s protectors turn to step up to the plate and do what needed to be done.
Most bad-ass thing about Son Goku is when he is fighting Kid Buu as Vegeta looks on and realizes that Goku is actually exceeding his own maximum power limitations and giving Kid Buu a challenge based solely on the fact that the fate of so many is riding on him.
When you guys says SSJ2 teen Gohan, which one do you mean? The one that fought Cell? I thought he was 10 years-old when he fought Cell.
I still think the coolest looking badasses where…
#3Cooler’s Final Form (not the Android) I really liked the huge webbed feet.
#2SSJ2 Gohan that fought Cell and Bojack. He had the lightning effect, all the hair going straight up, and he was pissed all the time.
#1Super Vegeta. He was so diesel.
This has been THE INVINCIBLE SWORDSMAN saying:
Super Buu wasn’t kicking Vegeto’s ass that I remember. Unless you’re talking about when Buu almost broke the time-space continuim or whatever the hell that was when he got pissed off. That was a worthless part of that fight BTW. I try not to remember it whenever I can.
Galick Gun FIYAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!! As hilarious as that old dub voice saying that line was, I prefer Christoper Sabat doing Vegeta. I also loved his work as Major Armstrong on Fullmetal Alchemist.
Gohan was 16 when he started going to high school acording to the manga so that would make him 9 when he killed Cell. FUNi just messed up the ages. Bulma said she knew Goku ever since he was 5. Again, FUNi messed it up. Goku met Bulma when he was 12.
I thought Toriyama-san was pretty lazy when it came to drawing Goku as a 15 y/o when he fought Demon King Piccolo in regular Dragon Ball. He looked exactly like he looked when he was 12. Same with Krillin. Just lazy.
Speaking of OG Dragon Ball, The King Piccolo Sagas were TIGHT!! King Piccolo was offing people like gangstas! Offed Chiaztu and he killed Shenron! I had no idea the dragon could be killed up until that point. And when I saw him kill him in the anime, my jaw hit the floor.
I agree with you, Goku is the better Warrior, and Gohan definetly has more power potential then Goku. Also, if I’m not mistaken, Gohan in Mystic Mode is basically equivelant to SSJ3 but w/out losing tremendous energy, which is a huge advantage. Not to mention indeed, Gohan never truly tapped into this potential.
I’ll be very honest, the DBZ characters are the most ridiculous characters I’ve ever seen, witnessed in any fashion. I mean, at their potentials now, they could literally wipe out the Universe 1000x over, it just got outrageous when Buu could literally teleport into the afterlife…so that meant that even in death, you could be in trouble….
However, I still love DB, was watching it since the 80’s when I was a youngling, so it’s for the kid me inside. Goku is still my favorite character in the series, not because he’s always the “hero” but I just love his character, he’s such a happy, yet unitelligent individual when it comes to academics, it makes him interesting as loveable as a protagonist.
The guy I feel bad for is Vegeta…poor guy, he tries the hardest out of anyone but seemingly can never surpass Goku
Gohan was 11 when he emerged from the Hyperbolic Time chamber but he is referred to as Teen Gohan where as Gohan when he is in the Saiyaman saga and beyond is referred to as adult gohan.
You were correct , its been so long I had to go re-watch the fight again >_<
They fought fairly event, but the mere fact that Gohan’s power pushed Buu to the state where he was even comparable to the powers of both Goku and Vegeta Fused is impressive enough.
Also he didn’t allow himself to be eaten he was caught off guard by getting transformed into candy, granted he could still fight in that state you have to consider how powerful Vegeto is( The potarra fusion yields the most net power gain out of all the fusions so basically when Vegeto is normal he’s roughly somewheres around SSJ2.5 and when he’s normal SSJ he’s slightly above SSJ3 Goku).
When Gohan went mystic it unlocked all of his latent potential. So in short yes he did tap into it. As that is what happens when the Elder Kai unlocks your shit.
Despite Goku always appearing stupid it was as you say merely related to books. He was never formally schooled so it is only natural that he is not good with school work. But beyond gohans studies he is one of the smartest people in the series. His observational powers exceeds just about everyones.
Gohan has always been my favorite followed closely by Mr. Vegeta, the king of all bad asses/
Yeah, you can thank Toriyama’s publishers for that. He had planned the Super Saiyajin henshin as sort of a grand finale for the entire series. It was supposed to end with Goku defeating Freeza and dying a warrior’s death on Namek. The planet-destroying powers of Goku and Freeza at that point in the series would have been the cap… but since Toriyama was persuaded to continue the series, he had to make it more and more ridiculous in order to keep things interesting. I have mixed feelings about this, since there are a lot of great moments later in the series, but the quality isn’t quite as great.
He did try hard, but his motivation wasn’t purely for the love of the fight and for self-actualization. He was always chasing somebody else’s shadow, so he doomed himself to second place.
I think he could have surpassed Goku, if he could have looked past such petty concerns and come to terms with the existence of another outrageously powerful Saiyajin in the universe.
Personally I feel it should have ended with Cell. Goku died(granted it was in vein) and Gohan had taken his place as Earth’s savior that would have been the perfect ending to a great(one of my all time favorites still) anime.
Goku gets whored out basically the whole series. I understand he was the hero but it got fucking ridiculous. After a while the other charactes became pointless even the other sayins.
The thing I never got is that the characters who were less sayin went SSj way before Goku ever did age wise. That kind of cheapend the value of the trasformation for me and it also suggested that those characters would have way more potential than Goku and should have been used better.
Trunks and Gogeta(from Movie 13) are still the coolest looing characters IMO.
Actually everyone that went super saiyan at a younger age was 1/2 saiyajin and 1/2 human whichHAS more potential that a full blooded Saiyajin.
Half-blooded saiyajins have been stronger through out the entire series even going as far back as when Gohan was a baby. It is only natural for someone who is stronger to go SS earlier.
And Lets not forget Brolly( the Legendary SSJ) was born SSJ and later transformed out of it had way more potential than Goku but never reached it as he was not constantly tested like Goku was, so the age at which you reach SSJ does not necessarily mean you have the most potential…
No I get that they have more potential it just pissed me off that it ended up being wasted. Goku ended up being the only one who could save everyone. The whole suporting cast ended up as glorified spectators.
And I have no idea on what to think of Brolly. Several of the of the sayins end up stronger than him IIRC. Hell he gets peaced out by Trunks and Goten in one of the movies.
1st movie he was pretty beast.Once he hits Legendary SSJ he would get progressively stronger as time went on which means that if left unchecked, could probably surpass everyone.
2nd and 3rd movies…eh not so much but i think he was tweaked so that the remaining characters could hang with him.
Well… The impression I got is that the younger generation have sort of a training routine to go by while Goku didn’t.
Similar to real life. An athelete trains himself without any help. In the future, he trains his son and his son becomes better because he goes through the right training and such.
It’s only right that the younger generation would turn SSJ faster than Goku.
But you are right though, it does make it seem like they would surpass Goku, but at the end of Z or during the Buu saga I should say, Goten/Trunks are still little kids and Gohan went to school instead of training.
I wish they showed how Goku got SSJ3 instead of just saying he got it when he was dead.
It would have been so cool if Pan could turn SSJ. But then seeing a little girl with a diesel body is kind of scary.
while that is partially true, as I stated earlier Half Bloods are always stronger than full bloods, meaning if Goten, Gohan, OR Trunks trained the way that Vegeta and Goku did they would be vastly superior to them.
There were never any female Super Saiyan in the entire Dragon Ball series, and even the two characters Pan and Bra were the only female characters in the original series with even partial saiyan heritage. The DBGT Perfect File implied Pan had the potential to transform, and possibly could have become a unique form of Super Saiyan. Toriyama later stated that he did not make a female character a Super Saiyan because he could not come up with a logical design for it, being that many of the physical traits of a Super Saiyan are more commonly male oriented, and not typical of females.

Second EDIT:
So I think I was wrong, the potential is there, as it is with anyone who has a bit of saiyajin blood, but it was just never demonstrated in any form.
That’s how Akira Toriyama wanted it, blame the fans for prying out of near retirement so he could make a character inspired from a wad of gum he found on the ground. <true story/>
I’m surprised that CN never whored out the DBZ movies. You can probably count on one hand the number of times they’ve shown the movies…and they haven’t even shown all the movies. They aired one of the Cooler(there’s 2, right?) movies just once or twice if I recall…and they’ve only shown 1 Broly movie on 1 occasion.(sadly, I missed it…and they never repeated the shit.)
I’ll actually have to rent the dvds or something to see all of these movies. It’s surprising considering how CN was basically the “Dragon Ball Z Network” for several years. The show was on all the time(at one point it was on all 7 days of the week, I think) in multiple time slots…but the movies got no love.
I am probably the only DBZ fan that has never seen Broly in action.
*I should’ve got the Android 19 action figure back in the day…now it’s probably impossible to find. I had Android 17, and Cell(perfect, it came with a Cell Jr…sadly, he was not poseable like a normal figure)…both from the Irwin Toys line…those were the best DBZ figures, imo. They were far more accurate than the really old toys.
For those of you who’ve never heard the story- the Dragon Ball Z ending story goes something like this:
Toriyama had originally planned for the series to end with the Goku vs Frieza fight, as somebody already stated. Maybe that’s why it’s so god damned long, I don’t know. Some people agree it should have ended here, some disagree.
He was convinced to continue the series, and ended up doing the Cell saga. It ends with Gohan finally unlocking his hidden potential that Goku had alluded to, Goku dying and the earth being saved, and even future alternate worlds. A lot of people think the series should have ended here in hindsight, some people disagree. The latter mostly being retards.
Toriyama was persuaded to continue the series, again, and we get the Buu saga. Buu saga is weird. Much, much less serious, and, as many have noted, all non-Goku characters are in one way another brushed off to the side. Some people think DBZ should have ended here; some people think much earlier.
Dragon Ball GT. I don’t know, I never really saw it. I don’t know if Toriyama wrote it, but IIRC he did a lot of the different character designs…?
I would’ve been totally fine with the Buu saga if they had…
#1 **Let Goku go back to the afterlife like he intended. ** Remember when Goku was talking with Piccolo at Kame’s place after he finished buying time for Trunks to get the Dragon Radar? Goku said something like…
“It’s not really my place to fight now. It’s not right for the dead to fight the living. My place is with the other dead people”.
Should’ve just let him be a spectator. I would’ve been fine with that.
#2Keep Vegeta dead. I was really heart-broken when Vegeta Yoshimitsued himself against Fat Buu. Then they brought him back… WTF? Kinda just meant that whole battle was nothing huh?
#3Have Gotenks & most importantly Gohan kill Buu. I thought this was the biggest mistake and tied into #1 and #2. Let the people who are ALIVE end the series. Why bother showing Gohan as a kid in high school? Why bother with the movies with he and the kids beating Broli? Why even bother having the kids fuse and go to their 3rd form? And why have Gohan come back from Kaoshin-kama’s place only to get beat up for 2 episodes and then absorbed by a Buu THAT WAS WEAKER THAN HE WAS.
Let Gohan and Gotenks put on the potara earrings or something. Let Gohan get mad or turn into a Mystic Supersayin with just gold streaks and have his tail regrow with the tail weakness. Anything. Just let the people who were ALIVE win this thing.
This has been THE INVINCIBLE SWORDMSAN saying:
And if you want… have Videl do something important too.
