What I don’t like/understand about the series is how everything leads to more power, more power. There should be characters who are more technical, yet not as strong, who should be able to defeat more powerful opponents. Goku is a beast, but he shouldn’t be like that just because he just keeps leveling up. His fighting style is technical, comprehensive (kung-fu), versatile, and just plain bad-ass. Everyone else is just brawling. I’m finding a strange semi-parallel in the Image comic Invincible (Viltrumites = civilized Saiya-jin). Mark is super-strong, sure…but when everyone you fight is even stronger, Superman-style brawling ain’t enough. You need martial arts to hone your application of said super strength…as Mark will soon learn

The reason a lot of shonen properties end badly or seemingly have no end is because everything just goes up and up. Eventually there’s nowhere else to go without it being ridiculous.
