1st thing i’m gonna say is…even though they’re doing this for free…the fan subbers need to tighten up.
And GOOD GOD @ how fast that episode went. And if memory serves me correct I see some new animation in this episode. And they fixed Vegeta’s color lol.

You could say that, but hey no one was expecting this to ever happen.
I don’t find it to be a big kick in the nuts really since I enjoyed the OG version and I’m enjoying the new cut. Though I noticed also that some of the dialogue was changed if the fan subbers are to be believed…especially when Piccolo asked ‘why didn’t you grab his tail?’
Personally I don’t mind it at all. Been years since I saw DBZ and having a somewhat refurbished series is great for nostalgia purposes (plus listening to the original voices; the eps I saw were dubbed).
I guess the joke Raditz says about Piccolo being green or some shit was filler material?
Fansubs? Really? Are they really necessary with anything DB related these days? I’d rather watch it raw. Reminds me of when DBZ was on the international channel back in the day.
I’ld prefer knowing what they’re saying rather than try and remember what I think they were saying when I first saw DBZ or read the Manga… it’s been a while.
Although I think I watched better subs than these … about a decade back (feel a little old now)
Perhaps the DBKai fan subbers could pull a quick compare with the earlier DBZ subs seen on youtube or something. If it’s the same voices it should be the same translations… but these aren’t that bad :wonder: are they?
Supiido Fansubs are OK, not that good but, OK.
Episode 3 was pretty censored when Goku and Raditz got hit by Piccolo’s attack. In the OG version, there is a sick amount of blood pouring out from their wounds and mouths. Now most of it has been painted away, almost like Saban-era censoring, but not quite… Piccolo’s blood was changed to purple also(probably to be consistent with the blood color of Nameks in the rest of the series I guess).
I heard there’s a couple of reasons for this. 1. Japanese broadcast standards have gotten stricter since the airing of the original DBZ. 2. The manga(which I have a very foggy memory of) isn’t nearly as violent as the original anime, so cleaning things up makes DBKai closer to the original. The real answer probably closer to the #1 though.
Overall though, I’m really digging this. It looks good, the new music is decent and the pacing is gdlk. Some people are complaining that it’s moving TOO fast, but considering my #1 complaint about OG DBZ was the slow ass pacing, this is a breath of fresh air.
Are you talking about the infamous ‘excuse me have you seen my arm?’ joke? I can’t quite remember if that joke brought in by the dubbers or not. I do remember that in comparison to the japanese Raditz, the dub Raditz made quite a few references to Piccolo being green.
I don’t know how close the translation is to what they’re actually saying but I’m more annoyed about when a few characters say something and what they say doesn’t pop up. I also remember some words showing up when someone was speaking that I’m pretty sure belonged to someone else and it confused me for a moment.

And holy f*ck they censored a legendary scene.
I figure if my sister (who reads Kanji well) says the dub is a little off its okay but when i notice what they are actually saying is off (from a good dub and my own crummy translating) there is a problem.
