Personally, quite a lot better since Frieza would have still been one of the strongest people in the universe without all these (forced) contenders popping up out of nowhere.
Same except all his other hair would be blonde, meaning the only visible thing would be blue eyes and a blonde 'stache.
While I agree that DBZ should have ended at Freeza, even if it didnât - I think Toriyamaâs mistake was trying to one-up Freeza. He didnât have to do that - Freeza was just that damn powerful. The Androids, Cell, Buu even could have been considerably weaker than Freeza and still own most everyone for free.
Instead of SSJ being a controllable state, it should have been uncontrollable, the way it was when Goku first went SSJ. So nobody goes SSJ through the Cell Saga, except for Gohan - make the SSJ2 transformation SSJ1.
Then in the Buu Saga Vegeta, obsessed with the whole SSJ thing, allows himself to be charmed by Babidi and obtains a false SSJ transformation, but when he canât overpower Goku (non-SSJ) he realizes that there are no shortcuts to becoming one. He loses the false SSJ transformation and challenges Buu, but canât beat him. He then goes SSJ to do the self-destruction in vain.
The final part of the Buu fight could have been Goku desperately trying to activate SSJ and not having it come out, when Vegeta suggests to have the people of Earth defend their own planet for once. Goku can then go SSJ to give the Spirit Bomb the final push, being motivated not to waste the energy they just gathered from everyone.
Cell and Buu could have been as strong/stronger than Freeza.
Imperfect Cell, Trunks, and random other characters should not have been.
The truth is that the power levels in DBZ mean absolutely nothing- there was just a big argument in this thread about whether or not Tien was stronger than Freeza- even if it was, it was because the latter died and the former kept training. When the power levels are constantly jumping, they donât jump at all, because almost nothing changes, relatively. The only thing thatâs different, is that it means the characters who got peaced out stay weaker because they donât get a chance to improve.
sorry for bringing Broly once again, but it would have been better to exploit the whole âtrueâ legendary super saiyan plot involving Broly/Goku. Thatâs how the saga after Freeza should have been
To this day I still love DB/Z. Iâm still slowly collecting the Tankubon and have decided its time to pick up the show not that Funi has givin it an epic remsatering and it comes in those bad ass slim packs. Each season for like 25 bucks. Anime donât come better for cheaper man. Only shonen i will ever like.
Iâm curious though. Considering the way that you worded it, would also prefer that Goku still come back and not die when Planet Namek exploded like he was also âsupposed toâ?
Yeah. Later DBZ is rather inconsistent because Toriyama was a)tired and b)realized that he didnât have to work as hard for his paycheck.
(This reminds me that I have to still check out Dr. Slump.
Fixed.
Hey, if the Briefs fit.
Personally, between the pink hair and being so buddy-buddy with Goten, literally becoming one with him during the Buu Saga for various periods of time, was it really surprising?
A Toriyama/Dr. Slump aside: Dr. Slump is really, really funny. Absolutely awesome. One warning for those who care: the American manga release can be severely edited at times. Itâs mostly smoking/drinking/nudity/race related stuff, but itâs inconsistent at times. Anyway, almost all the volumes are out and itâs worth checking out if those things donât bother you.
Anywho, I hope at least one more DB special comes along before the OG crew dies off.
Well, yeah, assuming that the series did continue on, Goku would kind of be necessary. Toriyama himself tried to write Goku out of it only for the fans to get upset and demand him back.
Ending at Freeza still would have been legendary, but if not then at least controlling the SSJ transformations would have kept things from getting ridiculous as they did, IMHO.
Controlling it wasnât really the problem IMO, making it an everyday thing that every saiyan man and child could learn was stupid.
If anything, the only Saiyans that shouldâve achieved that state shouldâve been Goku, Future Trunks (because of his hellish experiences), Vegeta (probably by the Buu arc due to turning insane because it is incredibly hard to achieve), and Gohan couldâve gotten a special ascended form due to him unlocking both his hidden potential and achieving Super Saiyan simultaneously versus Cell.
I wouldâve agreed with you before, but Gohan being able to turn Super Saiyan always made sense to me, because theyâve always prophesied his âhidden potential.â Since achieving that form requires pure, unadulerated rage Gohanâs constantly repressed emotions would be the perfect conduit for surpassing his hereditary limitations.
Itâs like I said: Goku dying and Gohan taking over isnât a story, itâs an ending. Itâs what was supposed to happen (and almost happened), but I donât think DB could have been viably continued without Goku and with Gohan at the helm.
I agree. Thatâs why Gohan couldâve been strongest person ever in the universe, but Akira jobbed him out to please Japanese fans who wanted Goku to remain on top. I donât like him jobbinâ Gohan the way he did since it was finally his time to shine to only have it robbed from him.
Personally, I think they advanced the Saiyan transformations too much as Akira should have focused a lot more on the SSJ3 level than anything else since it was the hardest to achieve at the time. The only single person who reached it was Goku (I wouldâve liked to see Vegeta/Gohan reach it sometime in the future). Imagine the SSJ3 level with NO side effects :looney:.
