Is the game really scrubby? I don't think so

This thread has gone to shit lol

If this guy wins Evo though those tactics? Sure. Xbox live? You must think that catgirl player is even better than daigo.

you are confusing competitive play with online leaderboards.

these two things are very different. You will not see good play on leaderboards (or at least not very often).

You do realize that the express purpose of X-Factor is to enable 1 vs. 3 comebacks, right?

That’s literally one of the main things it was designed to do.

and here is where i stoped reading

this

Enter the nonstop parade of players that were never around for day 1 MVC2.

MVC2 was far, FAR more keepaway oriented than MVC3 is. There was no Wolverine rushdown or Dante 100% combos or anything like that… just endless waves of viper beams, photons, c.HP->drones, BH demons, and wall of knives.

I suggest everyone bookmark this thread so that we can read it in a year and laugh heartily at the thought that keepaway is a serious threat. Keepaway in this game has nowhere near the upside of MVC2 (and it wasn’t even dominating in that game); MVC2 characters like Cable, Spiral, and BH would lock down MVC3’s cast for eternity.

Doesn’t make it a good design choice.

TL;DR but yes I think that this game is scrubby. It’s not like the game is a masher though. There’s definitely technique to the game, but it’s just WAY too easy to do big damage. X-Factor is pretty much THEE factor, and having level 2 and 3 means the game gives you a reward everytime one of your characters gets bodied. No fighting game should give you a reward for getting bested. That’s scrubby imo.

yea mvc2 early days was NOTHING but projectile spam over and over. I know most of you guys are new here but you need to go back and watch b5 duc do\arturo sanchez. Good lord, Arturo couldn’t do 1 fucking mixup but I’ll be damned if players back then were gonna get around doom on point shooting photons with BH Ice column.

b5 arturo would not stand a chance by today’s standards in mvc2 but like spider dan said, give the game some time to evolve and you will be laughing @ what wins early in the game as opposed to months\years down the road.

and before they fix XFC, can we PLEASE fix the net code =*(

Still doesn’t mean it’s good design. I’m not really going to argue much on the situation as I’m a firm believer in letting things run it’s course, but the concerns of a small group of people are entirely valid and I can clearly see where they’re coming from. There’s a fine difference between giving people a chance to come back and giving people access to a potentially I’ll thought mechanic that does more that it’s designed to do, more so to the point of removing the element of skill from the game entirely… I don’t think XF is a bad thing, I think it has the potential to add an extreme amount of depth to the game and it’s something I welcome with open arms, but I do think it’s been executed poorly and massively overlooked… Only time will tell…

No, I’ll infract you too after I take care of banning the other guy. It typically takes a minimum of two people to ruin a thread.

A+

Totally agreed. My suspicion is that they looked at MvC2 year 7 or so (2006-7?) and worked with/against that, bringing us back to MvC2 year 1/2.

Although in fairness, the damage in MvC2 is generally a lot lower and less destructive to your team.

As regards killing the thread… seems like the more interesting thing to do is just to monitor it and take care of people who Hulk out.

Well…that’s the main problem people seem to be having with the game. It’s a good idea but it’s implemented horribly. X-Factor is a totally free, low risk comeback mechanic designed to make 1vs3 fights fair. But that’s the thing…a 1 vs 3 fight SHOULDN’T be fair. Being down 3:1 means you performed horribly. You should have all the odds stacked against you.

SFIV and Guilty Gear had comeback mechanics, but you had to build a bar first.
TvC you give up your red life and get more damage the more you lose.
Tekken you get Rage, but that’s literally when you are very close to dying.
X-Factor gives you your damn red life back…for free lol. No chip, extra damage, speed boost, etc.

Honestly I can’t wait for EVO…SOMEONE is going to get their hearts ripped open due to X-Factor and I honestly can’t wait to see the backlash.

Um, [S]SF4’s comeback mechanic is literally “take damage,” (and it’s arguably the most popular fighting game of all time), so you might not want to cite that particular example.

Yes, because when people get a comeback win in [S]SF4 by landing an Ultra (especially Daigo!), the prevailing sentiment is OH MY BULLSH*T and totally not ZOMG MOST EPIC COMEBACK EVAR. Not at all.

come back mechanis arent a bad thing, when done properly, there are games that had them and they dont hinder the competitiveness of the game

The SF4 ultras are very punishable when not used correctly and require you to get yourself into an advantageous position to use them. You also don’t get the ability to have an Ultra at your disposal whenever you please. You also need to take into account the fact that the **** lasts 30 seconds.

You can literally 100% characters with Ice Storm chip as Storm in Lvl 3 X-Factor. Try it for yourself. :clown:

And no…in some cases both players might not have the chance to activate X-Factor themselves.

I’m not bitching about it…I’m just trying to tell you why others might hate it. Landing a clutch FADC Ultra wont be anywhere near exciting as a Lvl 3 X-Factor’d Sentinel killing characters in 5 hits.

I heard Mike Ross already rage quit at that WNF tourney cause of some Morrigan/Zero(?) ish in Lvl 3 X-Factor.

No they don’t. I can throw out an Ultra any damn time I want. Being in an advantageous position just makes them much easier to use. Same with X-Factor. If you’re not in an advantageous position when you activate X-Factor, then you have to waste a bunch of it just getting into an advantageous postion.

Can’t that just be super-jumped now? I know it can be stuffed by a lot people. Ryu’s Shinkuu is WAY more of a chip threat. And if they X-Factor, suddenly that 100% chip becomes 0% chip, so what’s the big deal?

lolwut? Are they somehow keeping you from touching the ground? Unless you’re getting combo’d, you can X-Factor. If you ARE getting combo’d, it’s your own damn fault.

First Sentinel has to land a hit, which is damn near impossible against anyone who can block. Sentinel landing 3 combos in a row in a limited timespan against someone turtling up is damned impressive.

Yes, an “advantageous position” such as “I got knocked down and I have a DP.”

And for the good ultras, “using them correctly” = using them in a combo, where they are not punishable at all.

Correct; you only get one when you get your ass kicked. With X-Factor, even if I’m dominating, I still have access to it (just a weaker version); in SF4, if you’re dominating, you won’t have an Ultra at all.

Really? That’s weird, because I thought that required X-Factor and 3+ meters.

Why not? Why does one BS comeback mechanic elicits cheers and praise, while another angry shouts and a river of tears?

So? If someone “ragequit” because they got hit with wakeup Ultra, who cares?

I don’t think she is OP, but does anyone hate what they did to Chun? I was psyched when I first saw her, but now that I know how legs work and how everyone spams with with seemingly no regard to actually fitting them in combos, I’m a bit disappointed.

Like anyone mashing anything in hopes that it works, I do believe that it is a bit scrubby (note: not OP). That and people spamming Wesker’s hyper in hopes that it randomly crosses up are the only lame things I have encountered.

Not to mention, characters get ultra at the end of each round, while x-factor is one per match.

I’m not sure it’s all intentional, I know sometimes when I’m playing Skrull or Chun I get random legs/tenderizer a lot just because I’m not very precise with my inputs  … but I do know what you mean, the good news is they’re super punishable if you know someone likes to use them a lot and baits them out.
