Except… no. I can go from playing someone with 10k BP and the next match is a 0 BP/0 PP matchup.
I don’t think you really understand street fighter mixups very well.
Lets take Zangief as an example - his mixup is either a bodysplash into tick SPD or bodysplash into lariat or bodysplash into a green hand combo - for simplification we can just use the lariat example.
Lariat will beat almost anything - especially a jump, and score a knockdown, but will lose to block - SPD will beat almost anything except a jump. This gives you a 50/50 mixup.
T.Hawk has tick SPD and…? A ‘safe’ EX DP which costs you two meter and puts you far away from your opponent?
I don’t think you understood his post. Juggler just listed some stuff that beats neutral jump. he wasn’t pretending to give you a sweet mixup game–he gave you good information. we all understand hawk takes more effort on wakeup than gief and that his mixup game isn’t the same–that’s why he isn’t gief 2. let’s try and choose to take posts in a positive light, please.
If you get your pp points to 3k and create a ranked match you will mainly get higher pp point players because the are searching for matches by same skill or higher skill. You can’t search for matches by bp so it means less than your pp but online play is bs for the most part and online points as a way to measure your level of skill is stupid. Also I was the top bp hawk for the first few weeks of super.
You will never see t-hawk win a US major. Although I did use him for 1 match in my loss to floe’s sagat at mwc where I got 9th.
I’ll be whatever I damn well please.
The match making in this game is not good enough for this to be a viable argument. While BP is an indication of how long someone has been playing it is NOT an indication of how well they have been playing or how well they will play. There are 5000+bp flowchart kens, they are uniformly AWFUL. **This isnt a discussion about whether t-hawk is competitive online. Nobody gives a shit. Thats not where competitive play happens **
Nobodys online points have any bearing on any part of this discussion, and if thats what your spending most of your time on, then your input doesnt really matter that much either.
Mixups are not Hawks “Only Strength” He has High damage, better normals/footsies than anyone seems willing to give him credit for, an extra 100 hp, The most damaging command throw in the game, and a MUCH easier time closing distance than other grapplers. Hawk isnt going to magically get worse. He isnt going to magically get better either. Condor spire is only punishable on hit if your a retard who throws out the wrong strength or spams it. Yeah, his u2 is kinda silly, I think we would all love a nice big hitbox so that it would be more useful than it is.
Look dude, I’m not a big enough idiot to think 5k bp means jack shit in terms of skill - but what it does mean is that my competition is a lot better than it was 2 weeks ago. This means character flaws are becoming more obvious because people are much more knowledgable on how to deal with T.Hawk. That is all.
His footsie game is not that great at all - his best poke is c.mk and it still gets beaten by faster pokes, and s.roundhouse is begging to get FA’d.
And what the hell makes you think Hawk has an EASIER time closing distance? Are you nuts? Abel and Zangief both cover ground much better, and safer, than Hawk could ever hope to - lariat keeps forward momentum and goes through fireballs, green hand eats fireballs and EX green hand covers a lot of distance, has invulnerability frames, and does a ton of damage.
Lets talk a little bit more about condor spire. This move has a 27 frame startup, no invuln frames, and requires you to space perfectly so that it isn’t punishable on hit. What about that makes sense to anyone? A special move that you need to space perfectly just so it isn’t punishable on HIT? That’s fucking moronic.
Bp Amoco,
I enjoy your vids. I agree that online isn’t any real measure of skill - I was just using it as a reference to point out that the people I’m playing now at higher bp/pp aren’t getting hit by SPD mixups and random condor dives and it’s making Hawks flaws really stand out to me.
In your tourney match against Sagat even one of the commentators mentioned that condor dive is supposed to help Hawk get in but is so horribly unsafe. And I fully agree that he won’t be winning any major tourneys - he’s just got too many objective flaws.
What game are you playing? Last I checked, lariat is very beatable, especially after the nerfs to it in Super.
Also, excellent logic. You say Hawk has no answer to n.jumping. I give a few. Now I have no idea what I’m talking about? I’ll give you a 50/50. 360 beats everything on the ground. Standing there and fucking blocking until something happens beats everything else.

Feel sorry for someone with such a shit ability at Street Fighter to troll forums, especially when that pic above just proves what a little bitch you really are.
Why is everyone on the T.Hawk threads so mean? Can’t we all just bond over a peace pipe?!?!
In regards to BP, I’ll be the first to say it means jack. The day I hit B with the Hawk is the day I gave up on caring about BP. Once you hit B and start losing to people of all ranks, you really start to understand how good you are with that character. In other words, I suck way more dick with the Hawk than I originally thought. But to each his own, no reason to hate on someone for being good online. And if you really wanna shut someone up, challenge them on Xbox Live or PSN, no reason to waste space on these forums belittling someone for taking pride in their BP. And remember, no matter who loses, don’t be afraid to cry.
my taunt of choice.
this whole board is full of whiners
Standing there blocking isn’t a mixup you fucking idiot. There’s so many things wrong with this statement and so many ways that you’re a fucking moron that I’ll just leave it at that.
I agree, that’s just… wow.
Most sensible post on this thread. I see a lot of people whinning about how T. Hawk is garbage, when they probably took almost no time at all to examine his normals. People who think just special moves alone determines a character’s status on tiers needs to get their head examined.
In lariat’s defense, it is still actually boss, it is only extremley punishable if you get baited into doing it or you are just randomly throwing it out. Even then, if you are a compitent Gief you shouldn’t really have tooo many problems with lariat because you wouldn’t be abusing it like that.
New tier list is out.
I’m not big on tier lists but thought I’d post it anyway. T.hawk is now top of the C pile.
Looking at it though, his worst matchup is Blanka which is 3. Other than that he has some 4’s but it’s mostly 5’s and 6’s. So I guess not too bad. I’m cool with his match-ups being mostly even.
i couldnt have said better myself well done. anyone wanna test themselves against thawk my name is my xbl tag. send a request and ill spd ya some
This is pretty indicative of Super’s balance as a whole. Even dropping into the C tier, the matchups are still for the most part fairly even. Just thinking of a matchup like Seth, things are pretty heavily in Seth’s favor but the sole inclusion of Hawk having a DP and good priority normals makes the fight very winnable if you play your cards right.
Not to mention how 1 f.Typhoon will take off 1/4 of seths hp
