EX DF is the worst possible corner escape move possible because it homes in. All it will ever do is put a Gouken player, in recovery, right next to the person he’s trying to escape. Counter still seems viable due to Ted’s reliance on long-range normals and how little ground spire covers. A good Gouken also won’t abuse counter period because of how open it leaves you if you guess wrong.
On top of that, the real threat with Gouken is going to be the fact that Ted’s huge bitbox means he can toss out mp fireballs with a lot less risk at mid-range. The best you can hope for is that the quick recovery on focus absorbs to buy you some pokes on FB startup. If you get in you can do goddamn near anything and it’s actually advisable to abuse crossups, but getting in is going to be less fun than Gief vs. Sagat.
I’ve been playing T. Hawk because he can close gaps quick. I prefer a DP as an AA over the new lariat any day. But, the problem is I’ve had it trade a lot and it doesn’t get that coverage like Ryu and Friends. But maybe I’m not used to having that luxury of such a move. My problem has always been trying to chase down runners. I love T. Hawk because he has really helped me with closing gaps but Zangiefs SPD damage is much much better. Even though the fierce version is the same 'Gief just has it. I went to 3 tournaments last week. The beginners rounds I waltzed through because of the scrub factor. Next rounds I have to play smarter because of the runners but then I get demolished by the high level players (RYU/KEN). I haven’t been able to do a lot of things but I know He gets out hit a lot from higher priority moves. I agree with the large number of cast being able to abuse him. It just seems that Dive/Spire/and Buster are just dangerous gambles so I have to use them as a part of Mix Ups. So I have to lose some life start up/continue minds games and then capitalize when they slip up but the Damage isn’t like Zangief.
I love the Dive for gap closing but it is so unsafe. I really do not see T. Hawk as Tournament Viable. It really blows because Zangief was my main and the changes have shaken me up that I’m undecided.
I’d like to state that after reading much more of the forum posts I wouldn’t knock on T. HAWK too hard… I’d still Knock but there might be more potential.
that statement isnt true at all.lmao you find every characters weaknesses through time, the more you play with him. we will know how high up he is or how low after everyone realizes what can stop what and hpow well to deal with what. i give him higher than z grief. for one he has a rising attack…amazin. slighty more mobile in the air and ground, decent crossup game, grab game, and does good damage combo wise, can go thru fireballs, has a normal that hits twice which means its pretty safe against focus canceling for the most part, and unlike gief he has gone green people. really c’mon. he will def be tourny viable in MY opinion due to these and other things i working on, gief is far more straight forward, he isnt as combo tricky as abel but is trickier when it comes to wakeup games and non combo excitement. your matches will be drawn out and come down to the wire no matter what skill level you are becuase the smart thing to do is stay away and bait him. dont take the worm you have one in your pocket. was that inappropriate? if so i apologize. lol
After spending some serious time with him tonight, i’m pretty much thinking he’s garbage tier. Everything he has that are his main tools are terribly unsafe, and spire just doesn’t cut it for… pretty much anything. It’s absurd to use one bar to move forward 3 feet and hope you timed it with such precision that it gets you through 1 (one) whole fireball. Dive also isn’t getting you anywhere; you can basically use it fine for getting to half-screen, which you can do safely with normal jumps anyway.
If spire went through fireballs without meter, or if it really just fucking went anywhere at all, it might be a better story. But as it is, he has no real ultra setups, no pressure game, no response to pressure games, no mixup game, and no wakeup game. Good chars have at least 2 of those, and the top tier have more or all, but Ted might be the only char that is equally disadvantaged regardless of what state the other player is in. He has pokes. That’s it. Which would be great if you could get anywhere near close enough to actually use them.
He’s not garbage tier because he does a lot of damage when he does get in. Also he does have a mixup on a knockdown - you can tick into an SPD or go for a combo.
Spire is his best move but yeah you have to pretty much predict fireballs to go through it and punish them. He also has -ABSOLUTELY ZERO- way to punish blocked blanka balls which is pretty obnoxious.
I am not sure why they didn’t make spire go a little further forward, and I’m not sure why they made dive so ridiculously unsafe, and his DP so ridiculously unsafe as well.
don’t listen to jagger guys he’s just a troll and that last post proves it
T.Hawk might not be the best character but he’s in no way close to garbage
and it’s funny zangief shares most of the same problems as hawk so why not call zangief garbage?
is it because he has that lariat which everyone thinks is soooooo god like
or is it something more?
cause Iam just about sick of this forum being so negative towards T.Hawk
All Grapplers have to work to get in
all Grapplers have weakness’s that can be easily exploited
but somehow you guys think hawk doesn’t fit that bill
that no matter what he’s gonna suck in the end
look at abel el fuerte zangief and hakan(yes hakan…)
all of them have to work harder and harder every match just to pick up a win sometimes barely edging out the opponent
Well the reason lariat is godly is it’s a really good “fuck you” to any kind of crossup pressure and gives gief an easy (one button lol) way to deal with fireballs WITHOUT needing meter.
All those are exactly why i think he’s garbage tier. All the damage he can do is completely pointless if he can’t get in. Dee Jay in particular can completely shut him down. Literally. As in, there’s absolutely nothing you can do about a competent Dee Jay but hope he doesn’t want to throw maxouts all day. You get great damage until he figures out that it’s all coming from jumping in at you.
Ted has absolutely no way to control any aspect of a match, or really to even put up a fight for it. If you stay out of Gief’s SPD range, you can bet he’s going to be looking HARD for ways to EX hand in, or use fear of it to pull something else. If you stay out of Ted’s SPD range, he can basically wink at you and ask you to come closer. Online scrubs will get tooled all night long because they’re either throwing fireballs stupidly which is the lone instance where dive is actually a safe option, or they have a death wish and want to get in a grappler’s face with weakass crossup jumpins. Anyone else, you get fucked so hard it’s not even funny.
Yes, and you’re an idiot for still not being able to rub two fucking braincells together to figure it out.
no jagger is right to be honest. thawk is lower he has great tools that the others dont have but he is still not going to be great, he cant combo into utra, or stun often, which is ok, he isnt abel. and to get thru fireballs you have to use ex to punish, or a thawk uppah to get over it. what he is saying is correct and what you are saying is correct, the question here is are the tools really as applicable in a fight where ur opponent wil keep you away and knows the match up, and is he worth playing. i suk and i play him. he cant punish blanka balls unless in the corner which is pretty gay but thats another bad matchup for him. and he never controls a match unless you take having someone away controlling the match in ur favor…
You can shut down nearly everyone of dee jays anti air options by neutral jumping out side of upkick range over fireballs. slide will not hit you. he has to anticipate you doing this and jump up to meet you in the air and hope he has something to trade with neutral jump rh. Like did you even think of this or do you just jump forward over fire balls or jump forward and dive over them? Do you know how to walk forward and block and create space?
Or you can buffer ex spire. Its the opposite motion of hand and serves the same purpose except its safer. Stop being an idiot for a second seriously. T.hawk is heavily footsie based. I was going to respond to your previous post but theres so much wrong with it, its got to be a troll.
