That’s actually been out for a while now. I use it myself, but yeah it doesn’t do that much for you in your favor besides being really annoying. I use it sparingly because its not smart doing it against characters with beast anti-air. In this game being above an opponent is not a good spot to be.
ah. i didn’t know that
…yeah
Yeah, having played with Alpha so many times (we need to do some more too!), I can agree that Ike vs Sonic is a horrible Sonic match up. The best strategy I can come up with against Ike (online) is to rush in and cancel the run with a shield and follow up, provided you aren’t grabbed before hand.
And I know this is old, but canceling side b into shield at start up seems like an awesome fake out tactic. I also practiced for like 30 mins trying to perfect footstools… hasn’t really effected my game. I remember, it was mad useful in this one random FFA when I just ran accidentally off the stage due to lag, but I footstooled a Wolf by accident… It killed him. However, that was a complete fluke. I’d love to actually perfect the move.
I’ve noticed I get A LOT of accidental footstools as Sonic and rarely ever do it as anyone else. I think it’s effective for gimping people with difficult recoveries like Wolf. Maybe footstooling is his thing.
Man I don’t know where you guys are finding these Ikes and Marths, but I’m having absolutely no problem doing whatever I want even to the Marths that can stomp my ass. I wanted to play EmblemLord but he was busy or uninterested or something.
Eh?
When did you ask to play me?
Canceling side b into shield?..O.o? I wasn’t aware that he could cancel his side b…especially since I had been trying to find out if there was some way to cancel it all along…you care to elaborate?
yeah…ike vs. sonic = pain on the hedgehog…but I still say that match up isn’t nowhere near as bad as mk vs. sonic…Sonic vs. Ike can be won but it’s an up hill battle. Sonic has no choice but to slow down most of the time during that match for fear of running into something that could potential kill him in 3 hits.
uh oh…pulls out some popcorn
in the srkbrawl room
Did you really?
Must have not been paying attention.
Well, it’s just like it sounds. If you side B and shield without letting go of B, the animation will cancel directly into shield. It only works during the start up rev animation. To play theory fighter for a bit, get spin dash happy in one fight to the point your opponent gets paranoid/knows what’s coming. That would be when you start this trick. It can be done fast enough to just hear the rev sound. I only encountered it once through deadsonic (not sure if this is his SRK handle), but he used it more to re-evaluate some situations. I really only tried this in the waiting lobby, but I do see potential use. Sonic has potential to be the great annoyer.
lol…
don’t really like that technique. it sounds about as useful as Shadow Ace’s responses in this thread
Potential? He’s already there lol. This interests me quite a bit…It’s not the cancel I’m looking for but I’m trying to think up other situations and possibilities with it…I’ll have to test it out. If it’s good enough it could definitely add more to his mix up options.
O.o;…was that necessary? I’m wondering if you’ve tried it yet and applied it to any matches to see if it works.
I been messing with the side b to shield. It’s pretty crazy.
Run up to someone and do side b and you can just cancel with a grab, since grab is shield plus A button. You don’t even have to shield, just hit both buttons at the same time. I think it would work with the Z button too. Pretty tricky.
Nice find… the input has to be really quick!
I’m Still trying to find some nice throw combos or even throw infinites with sonic.
Anyone else having any luck?
Well lemme elaborate cause that does sound like a dick move. I think it sounds worthless, but yes you’re right… I haven’t used it. However, what looks/sounds useful and what actually is are two different things. For all I know it could be some gamebreaking tactic. just saying what I think of it, that’s all. If I ever use it I’ll give a much better opinion
Haven’t found any infinites, but there’s a lot of stuff that has Sonic leading an offense completely in his favor. The second you land a D-throw, your opponent is under your control. It’s hard to explain it, but if you’re good, you’ll kinda naturally understand how it’s supposed to work
ya know…the funny thing is I used to do that a lot…but certain people get mad during the game and they’re right beside me…so instead of trying to have fun with the game I’m not in fear of getting into a fist fight over the damn game lol. I’ll do that shit online and to anyone else though but fighting over the game ain’t even worth it especially when all i do is in fun. =D
dude…I tried that shit out and I can FEEL frustrating coming from the opponent. You can run Side b and immediately cancel that shit so you get the ‘ZZZIIIINNNG’ sound that makes it sound like you’re doing the dash attack but you aren’t. And as emblem lord pointed out it makes for even stupider throw set ups. Not mention I can see this been applied to make people attack him and think they’ve got him only to hit a perfect shield. I’m definitely gonna be abusing the fuck out of this…nice find Zan!
From my messing with it…the input doesn’t necessarily have to be fast…but there a few things to take note of…You can’t do the cancel in the air…so no fake outs into a dodge or anything. However if you started the side b close to the ground and then land you can cancel it. As far as input goes…I’ve found you can cancel any part of the animation of the side b…so long as it’s not Fully charged…once it’s fully charged you can’t cancel it so be wary of it. I wonder if people will find some really stupid ways to use this tactic.
oh and we can’t forget to name this cancel something stupid or name it by the person who discovered it. =D
Edit:
I told you…Most sonic players already do it though and they probably don’t realize it…Once sonic knocks the person down and they’re at a certain distance…it’s speed trap time.
It shall henceforth be called “Zinging”! Totally works: “Zing the fuck outta him”, “Zing into shield grab”, etc. Lol sorry, I got nothing.
I was messing around with it yesterday and found, like Emblem noted, that it is possible to Zing (totally works) into a grab (using Z), but the window is incredibly small.
nah, I’m saying I never did it. I didn’t understand how to do it with his D-throw, but I get the game now. If they sleep, they’ll get hit by a dash attack. If they wake up, they could get D-thrown again. Tech hitting and a perfectly timed wakeup attack are the only things that can really stop this… but tech hitting (which I think is the best option) can set you up for another throw and you can shield dash wakeup attacks.
BTW, I’ve used the B-forward into shield. it’s actually a lot better than I thought. It tricks lots of people into trying to punish it. I wonder how much depth it has though…
Heavens!!! I know of noone that dastardly.
